I know im late on this one, but I felt the need to express my annoyance with the new movies.

You know I was watching the old star wars again recently, and the way they used models for the star destroyers and other star fighters looked SOOO much more real. Why the hell would they want to use CGI for them when it looks so obvious that its computer generated.

And yea I was very annoyed with the way they made yoda say everything bassackwards. He never said anything that way in the old one. And they shouldnt have used CGI on him the whole movie. Sure they cant make a puppet have a lightsaber battle and make it look real. But dont make him animated through the whole movie, even when hes just sitting in a chair the whole scene.

    Vent over.
    No arguments, really.
Yoda talked backwards a fair bit in the old movies too, though.

People constantly rag on Episodes I-III but I loved them. To me Lucas can do no wrong. American Graffiti was great and so were all 6 Star Wars films. Maybe he made a misstep with Jar Jar but overall I don’t think I-III were all that bad.

I never saw the prequels until I watched Revenge of the Sith on TV the other night. I thought it was awful. I gutted it out because I was curious to see how he became Darth Vader. and it's not really the bad script or overuse of visual effects that hurts it. it was the acting. the guy who played young Anakin was TERRIBLE (especially in scenes where he has to raise his voice) and Natalie Portman was equally as bad.

I haven't posted on this thread before. My two cents:

Loved the original trilogy. Yeah, I was a kid back then, but they obviously had a certain magic and chemistry that nothing before had, at the time or ever.

When I came out, I was so excited. I was put off by the technology thing, and I was put off by the CGI. I liked the models from before. They looked more real to me. And JarJar. Wow, enough said. Horrible, just horrible.

I actually own the DVD to I because I wanted to give it another chance. It is telling to watch the making of and the other documentaries that come with it. Lucas at one point (I shit you not) says something to the effect of "JarJar is the key to Episode I. If he comes across believeble, it works; if he doesn't, it doesn't work." That documentary was made before the movie was released, and JarJar obviously did not work.

Also, in teh various documentaries, what becomes apparent is that Lucas was obsessed with the new technology and making the movies look better than they did. I believe he dropped the ball because what made the first three movies so special was the story. He should have focused more on the way the story unfolded. It could have been so much better.

And don't even get me started on the little gag lines they threw in for C3PO. "I am beside myself." Ugh.

It did work, kids loved Jar Jar and he looked pretty "real" on screen. What didn't work was all of the humor associated with the character (at least for adults).
No longer overwhelmed it seems so simple now.

Jar Jar was promoted to the senate intentionally by Palpatine because he's weak and would easily be persuaded to vote Palpatine as emperor.

    DUH! :D

It's fine the way it is.
Star Wars is the story of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. It's a good place to end it with his redemption and death.

he's holding me back..wah wah wah cry me a river sooky boy.

as ive said before, if i was amidala i would have felt a strong desire to slap anakin until he woke up to himself.
just like all bullies, vader was covering up insecurities and his own low self esteem from his childhood and supposed growing up(which i dont think he ever did) to seek revenge on the entire universe. but did so at another bidding. revenge for what? oh i dont know maybe for not being taken as seriously as he felt he should be. for not garnering the respect he felt was due him. for being told sacrifice is needed if one is to become a great person.
the only thing i applaud vader for is saving luke's life and hoiking the emperor into that abyss.

To be fair, if you grew up in slavery it might mess with your self esteem. I also think it's overly simplistic to call Vader a bully. He was manipulated by Palpatine from the moment they met.

so okay then skywalker is weak and chose to take the easy path. even when he was warned against it constantly by people who knew better than he did th consequences of his actions. palpatine played on his insecurities and ego.

That would have been a hell of a twist - Luke learns that he's Vader's son in Empire, then learns that he's half-black in Jedi. :D
