yup, Morgan will ignore Ruth and Gehrig and Dimaggio and Mantle and Yogi, etc..., and spend the entire evening extolling the virtues of the greatest black players to ever play at yankee Stadium

Lucky for the All-Star break. We got to start the "second half" with the top 3 starters of the rotation. Making it easier to start off with a 3 game winning streak.
its a tough call. he definitely causes a cy young buzz during his most dominating seasons. it gets talked about and talked about, just like awarding a DH an MVP. but i think he will retire with one on his resume.

hell, i'd vote for him (i might be a little biased though). but it seems like some sports writers have the idea that relief pitchers shouldn't be eligible for the cy young because they don't pitch enough innings.
it's funny. he can't win the MVP because he's a pitcher and he can't win the cy young because he's the wrong type of pitcher. so he misses out on both.
2005 was the best example. rivera was the most dominant pitcher in the league by far, but they wanted to give it to a starter and bartolo colon won 21 games that year.
2008 is a much better year for front-end pitchers. you have justin duchscherer and cliff lee tearing up the league. then you have guys like roy halladay, joe saunders, ervin santana, daisuke matsuzaka, and felix hernandez. i think rivera is as good as any of them, but i just don't see him getting the votes. hopefully i'm wrong.
Another nice win. A little concerned with Matsui and Posada possibly out for the rest of the season. Would sure be nice to see Jason Bay in left field. I like Gardner for the way he plays the game but he's a slap hitter with (in my opinion) pretty limited potential.
I absolutely love the way the bullpen has been pitching. I like Robertson a lot! Also impressed with the way Girardi has handled them. I heard a stat on the broadcast last night I think that the Yanks are one of the top teams in the AL in bullpen innings, but no one individual pitcher is in the top 15 in IP. That's quite a change from Torre who overworked guys the last couple of years.

that's the difference in my opinion, but having said that kyle farnsworth is in a contract year.
that being said, you have to feel good about the direction of the team right now.

ALEX Rodriguez, who's being divorced by wife Cynthia, indulged in some retail therapy on a recent trip to LA. The Bronx Bomber dropped a bundle at Barneys Beverly Hills. "He bought sweaters, including a bunch of cashmere zip-up hooded sweatshirts that were about $1,200 each," said our spy. "It was around $50,000 total, a lot of it from Italian designer Brunello Cucinelli." A-Rod avoided the sales floor and had the sweaters brought to him in a VIP area.

ATTENTION, girls - time is running out to date Derek Jeter . "I hope to be married in the next five years," he told Fox Business Network's "Happy Hour" hosts Cody Willard and Rebecca Gomez last night. But any potential bride will be thoroughly vetted. "First of all, you have to pass the test of my mom and my sister," Jeter said. "My dad's pretty reasonable. You can get by him. But you can't fool my mom and my sister. If you can get by them, I think you're in pretty good shape."

Abraham has some good stats that show how much the Yanks miss Larry Bowa coaching 3B. You have to wonder if Meacham will be brought back next year. I'd love to see Randolph coaching 3B next season, but he may have other bigger offers.
Lots of "rumors" on the web and airwaves about players the Yanks may try to aquire for stretch run:
-Brian Fuentes - Rockies reportedly want Kennedy
-Jarod Washburn and Jose Vidro - Kei Igawa and a prospect (I dont know what's harder to believe........teams are interested in Igawa or that the Yanks don't appear that eager to part with him)
-Jason Bay, Xavier Nady - lots of teams are scouting Pirate players from the sound of it
-Barry Bonds - I think Hank's comments were just for show. I don't see anyone offering Bonds a contract.
-Matt Kemp and Derek Lowe for Cano - heard this one from the baseball guys on XM this afternoon and this is the most interesting rumor to me. On one hand, Cano is a gifted hitter but doesn't always seem mentally committed to the game. You'd be getting rid of a guy who could blossom into a perennial All Star 2B who challenges for batting titles. Then again, he may never find that consistency. You can easily replace him with a better fielder and maybe make a run at signing Brian Roberts in the offseason though. Kemp is a young 5 tool OF and you have holes in the OF now and lots of questions heading into next season. Lowe could help upgrade the rotation for the rest of the season.

i think it would be foolish of the yanks to give up on cano. if he matures a little bit and is able to become more consistant throughout all 162 games, he is no doubt a threat for the batting title season after season.
Cano cant go anywhere unless we have a better replacement at 2nd and the guys tearing it up right now. Id go for Nady, the guys a beast and maybe a reliever and a starter
3 games behind
anyone still doubt were not gonna go on our annual 2nd season tear and make the playoffs if not flat out take the division? Half ass yankees team we love with injuries and everybody pickin the red sox this and that hands down b4 the season..yea ok  Have they not learned yet? Were ALWAYS gonna do this in the end! Gettin back to the WS and winning it again is another story, but I like this yr...I dont see any clear cut favs to go all the way so we should have a decent shot

objects in the rearview mirror may be closer then they appear
Let's not get all crazy now. They are playing great baseball but let's not forget how bad the Yanks played after their other 7 game wining streak. This team is very streaky. Win 6 in a row then lose 3 in a row. The first time they won 6 in a row they went and lost 2 of 3 to Bal. And then the 2nd time they won 7 in a row the went and lost 2 of 3 to Cincy. The good thing is they have 2 of their good pitchers going this weekend. Joba and Pettitte. but Boston does have Big Papi coming back from the DL...although thy might lose Manny for the series.
I hope the Yanks take at least 2 of 3 but you never know. Let's go Yanks!
Hey, you wouldn't hire a clown to fix a leak in the jon so why do you let these hooligans tear down the biz? YEEAAHHH. I don't care if he is Mr. Notorious BIG, can he croon?

Trading Cano would be gutsy I agree. That said, if I knew we could sign Brian Roberts in the offseason and add Kemp to the OF, I would do it. Kemp is a legit 5 tool talent. Of course there is no guarantee that the Yanks can lure Roberts so it would be hard to make a deal like that.

loved how they brought pettitte out for the 8th. would have been nice to see him go for the complete game though.
mariano cy young?
I doubt they'll give it to a reliever, but if they do, Francisco Rodriguez would probably be the front-runner.
they'll never give it to him (see: 2005).
They gave it to Eckersley as a reliever though. As for K-Rod he might be a choice. But he has more save opportunities.
