I agree...they just can't hit. To their credit, they haven't had their "full" projected lineup for basically the whole season...A-Rod, Posada, and now Matsui and Damon (who both are batting well over .300) spent time on the DL. But you're just not going to get to the playoffs with Rasner and Ponson in your rotation. Wang's injury was a HUGE blow to the team (granted, his pitching was kind of "off", but he usually only gives up 3 runs a game)...they have to make some kind of move to better the rotation...Chamberlain isn't doing bad, but their insistence on only pitching him for about 5 innings a game is getting annoying. Let him stay out there and fight his way out for once. Eric Milton will probably end up pitching a couple of games, but I can't see him making much of an impact. I'm hoping they somehow acquire A.J. Burnett, but the chances of the Jays trading him to a division rival aren't very good. I've said it then and I'll say it now: not getting Johan Santana was a stupid move. Hughes is injured (and wasn't pitching well before the fact) and Kennedy was getting destroyed by opposing batters. And, good God, please don't put LaTroy Hawkins in relief anymore...it seems every time they put him in, he gives up runs.

Now that I stopped my rambling, I can't wait for the HR Derby tonight and the All-Star game tomorrow...I tried to get tickets, but they were MUY expensive...I just wish A-Rod was participating in the HR Derby...would be nice to see him getting cheered on in such an event, especially with all the turmoil surrounding him at the moment.

    R.I.P. Bobby Murcer.

I liked that they kept Hughes. He wasn't doing well early in the season. But it was early in the season. I'm sure had he not gotten injured. He would be doing alot better. He should be back in September. I never understood the Hawkins signing.

Derek Jeter is having a party somewhere in the city tonight...I know because radio personality Wendy Williams thanked him for inviting her on the air (she said she couldn't go) I wish I was invited, I wonder where it will be....:)

Damn it, even as a Yankee fan, it would've been sweet if Josh Hamilton won the Derby. But oh well. 28 HRs! At Yankee Stadium! (Granted, he had the short porch...)
  • Wow. Anyone taken back by how George S looked as they carted him on the field??? Looked like he was crying quite a bit? Something looked strange there

Big Daddy Steinbrenner did look bad, but I kind of had a feeling he was in bad shape because you don't see him much at the park. Good for him for handing over the reigns and not acting like Al Davis and trying to run the team when he should not be. (although i'm not amazed with hank and his brother thus far)

Did you guys see Wade Boggs wearing his Yankees hat on the field when introduced? I remember him not being too happy with the red sox when he left i guess he is still disgruntled. He was the only guy not wearing the hat of the team he went into the hall as.

I like how Winfield had his yankee hat with him and even though he wore the padres hat likewise with Gary Carter and his mets hat.

I was excited that Reggie and Yogi got a big ovation from the crowd. It seemed like those two and Jeter got the loudest cheers, but it was hard to tell from the TV broadcast so that could have been my imagination.

I have to say Terry Francona is a class act and a great baseball man. He handled that entire game really well and his entire time there at yankee stadium. Love how he was kind enough to take Jeter and Arod out during an inning.

To that effect where the fuck was arod after he got taken out? Jeter was up on the step watching the whole game cheering his teamates on. I hate to assume anything but when people say Jeter is a yankee and Arod is just wearing the uniform it is partly because of things like this. It is not like he disapeared in the late extra innings he left the game never to be seen again unless i missed him.

Another moment from last night i thought was nice was seeing Joe Giradi down in the bullpen catching for K Rod and then Mo.

all in all a pretty great night.

I'm not sure if you got a chance to see Hamilton do it but to be honest the short porch did not help him. A lot of his shots were dead center and the ones to right were way gone. I think he actually hit 3 balls over 500 feet and one of them almost went out of the stadium which no one has ever done.

Pretty impressive show by Josh. I think everyone will remember what he did even though he did not win.

last night got me thinking. where the hell is bernie williams?

why wouldn't they retire his jersey this year in the ball park he played 15 seasons in. are they really waiting to do it in the stadium!?

A little tid bit. Sorry if someone already posted it, but I am running late...

Yankee Stadium has hosted an All-Star Games in 1939, 1960, and 1977. The Yankees reached the World Series in all three of those previous seasons.

From personal experience with a close relative, I am pretty sure Mr. Steinbrener has Alzheimers.

  • Example 457635 of why mariano is the best ever. Papelbum, gives up a run and would have cost the AL the game, until Billy Wagner comes in and blows the save for the NL. What does Mariano do? 1 2/3 IP. Too ba dthey couldn't score and get him the win.

    Goddamn...that All-Star game sucked...

    15 innings?

I got to the 11th, then I started watching Generation Kill.

I switched back to the 13th, and I honestly didn't care if the AL won at that point...I just wanted the game over.

    Went to bed soon after.

Well, according to TMZ A-Rod held a party at the 40/40 club...this could be the same thing, I don't know.....TMZ also said Madonna showed up and the shindig...

ALEX Rodriguez's teammates must wish they could divorce him too. "He's become a huge distraction with the Madonna fiasco," a source told Page Six. "It's always all about him." That explains why none of his fellow Yankees went to the All-Star bash he hosted at Jay-Z's 40/40 Club Monday night.

Instead, his mommy, Lourdes, and his new best friends, Guy Oseary and Ingrid Casares, were by his side in a corner booth as he threw back shots. And Casares was then spotted leaving A-Rod's Park Avenue pad yesterday afternoon.

Reps from Berk Communications, who'd slapped Madonna's name on their tip sheet for the event, kept insisting she was on her way, but she never showed. Instead, A-Rod was entertained by big-busted hotties who shimmied to Material Girl tunes and desperately tried to make eye contact with him.

Over at Marquee, the more likable Derek Jeter threw a bash filled with pals like Billy Crystal and Michael Jordan. Jeter also brought his latest fling, Minka Kelly. They came in separately, but a spy said they were "very much together on the dance floor."

Meanwhile, Mets third baseman David Wright hosted a Vitamin Water party at Hudson Terrace, where Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Paul Rudd and Yankee pitcher Joba Chamberlain listened to a midnight performance by 50 Cent.

Across town, Shaquille O'Neal, who was recently spotted reuniting with his wife, Shaunie, was at the Getty Images and MLB All-Star bash at Tao, where "his mission was brunettes. He didn't like to do the legwork," said our spy. "Throughout the night, he requested specific brunettes to be brought over to him by the security guards."

A more subdued All-Star dinner at '21' drew Hank Aaron, Whitey Ford, Willie Mays, Wade Boggs and Lou Brock. Even Jordan, who stopped by before Jeter's bash, appeared "star-struck" when he walked in.

And the tabloids start again. Does someone from Boston run the media here in NY?

Well, at least they got Sexson instead of Bonds. I don't care what a couple ESPN analysts say. Bonds is a disease to any team willing to take him.

The Giants were a consistent winner with Bonds. Just like TO the media likes to make him out to more of a distraction then he really is.

Do you know that TO has been to the playoffs in all but 3 seasons as a player?

And that Bonds has been to the playoffs 7 times?

Sexson will be no help to the Yanks where as Bonds would help especially if Matsui is out for the year.

As an A's fan I've been calling for Billy Beane to pick up the phone and get Bonds in here. Especially since we have exceeded everyone's expectations this year.

Here's to sweeping the Yanks to start the second half!!!

    Un-earned run.

I think the error on the catcher was kind of the reason they scored.

Papelbon didn't look like much of a bum last post season.

Honestly, I don't want that emotional baggage crap on the team. I mean, what with the whole A-Rod/Madonna fiasco and just the fact that they're the Yankees, the media already goes crazy. Add Bonds, and it'll just get nasty. The guy has not hit a baseball for a long time, and he's old. I can't imagine him providing any more than what Sexson would provide. And I already hate the whole, "Oh, the Yankees only win because the happen to have the most money - they just buy out all the big name players" insult...Bonds would add more fuel to the fire, that's for sure.
  • yeah, remember that onion article a few years ago, about the Yankees signing every player in baseball? Bonds would make it 3 out of 5 from that press conference "photo". Mike Piazza and Sammy Sosa can't be far behind

i have tickets to the second to last game, and they are yet to announce the time. it's a saturday... i wonder if it's going to be a FOX game or YES game.

i think YES deserves to call that entire series. not ESPN or FOX.

    July 19, 2008 --

YANKEES pitching ace Joba Chamberlain has been letting loose lately. A few nights back, he was spotted at the MLB.com 33 Club party, where "He climbed onto Alyssa Milano's table and starting dancing," said our witness. "He stayed in the VIP room until 3 a.m." After Tuesday night's All-Star Game, a super-friendly Chamberlain pulled up to Hudson Terrace in a white stretch limo, where he happily signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans.

actually, yeah. I thought there might be 1 or 2 things left in the entire sport that were sacred. I guess I'm just naive. I know they can make the playoffs and it would be a mostly moot point, but there are plenty of people who were lucky enough to get tickets for the season finale who can't afford or just can't get playoff tickets. Plus, it's a Sunday. It should be an entire day, pre and post game celebration. This game will end at midnight. It's disgusting
