jackson had a sick game the other day, seven RBI. As for Gardner, i'd take him just for the sole purpose of having some speed on the bases. Right now, on most nights the faster runner off the bench is Shelley Duncan.
Cashman doesn't want to bring those guys up just to be pinch runners. And have them sit on the bench. When they could be developing in the minors. He did say they have someone with great speed that could fill that role. Don't remember the name sorry.
Checking out jackson's numbers at Trenton, I noticed this:
Jason Jones
W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR HB BB SO WHIP
8 1 2.22 12 12 0 0 0 73.0 68 21 18 2 2 20 40 1.21
Interesting. I'd never heard of him before. He's 25, and is either riding the best hot streak of his life, or he just recently figured it out. Going into this year, he had an 18-28 career record in 4 seasons in the minors

The other night, when Duncan pinch ran for Posada---don't they have a pitcher they could have used in that spot? I know you run the risk of an injury by doing that, but Duncan---why bother. I know he's faster than Posada.
I don't think they'd be wasting gardner by bringing him up. The way Melky's been hitting, Gardner could see some time in CF. He'd make a good 9 hitter. A 2nd leadoff type guy as the lineup turns over. Even leadoff when Damon sits, or cools off. Also, as pointed out, he'd be a major, major improvement over teh current pinch runners. He could even be a late inning defensive replacement, coupled with pinch running. I'm sure he's better than Matsui, and he has to better at the wall than Abreu

neither are, so that presents a problem. Moeller is on the 40 man though, and he isn't long for this team. Interestingly, they have 5 catchers and just 3 outfielders on the 40 man (4 if you add Matsui, who they have as a DH)
checking out the recap at mlb.com. The Yankees grabbed another pitcher (a lefty) in the 2nd round. Jeremy Bleich.
a lot of the "experts" think he was a huge reach at #44, but the yankees seem to like him. LHP with a good curve who says he models his game after andy pettitte. his velocity has only been in the mid-to-upper 80s but that might be because he's recovering from a recent injury.
Another flamethrower for the Bombers, this one out of Ross Sterling HS in Texas. Brett Marshall. Based on his write up, I'm surprised he made it to them at 200. A HS kid throwing 96. Wow
he fell to the yankees because of money. he wants a million dollars to sign. this is a common aspect of the MLB draft. first round talent often falls deep in the draft because of signability issues (e.g. carmen angelini in '07, dellin betances and mark melancon in '06, and austin jackson in '05). brett marshall is a classic example of this. it now becomes an issue of whether or not the yankees are able to sign him, and right now it looks very promising. chris dwyer (36th round) is another major signability case.
signability is also why gerrit cole and casey kelly fell to the yankees and red sox, respectively. i'm pretty psyched about cole. it sounds like he's the guy the yankees were hoping would fall to them all along (and this is him at age 12). classic "high risk/high reward" pick. this is the second year in a row that the yankees may have gotten the best raw arm in the draft (brackman in '07), although the farnsworth comparisons worry me a little.
corban joseph sounds like a professional hitter. excellent mechanics at the plate. check this out. exciting stuff...
chris smith put up some fairly decent high school numbers this year: .708/.744/1.361. that's a 2.105 OPS.
luke greinke (12th round) is zack greinke's brother.
keep an eye out for pat venditte (20th round). he's a "switch pitcher." i'm not sure how high his ceiling is, but it's definitely an interesting pick. you don't see too many of those...
nomaas.org is running a very insightful draft blog this year. it's definitely worth checking out (especially since the major league games aren't worth watching). lots of info on the draft picks and their signing status.
did anyone actually watch the draft on ESPN? both bud selig and peter gammons supposedly grimaced when the yankees selected cole. how awesome is that? and apparently gammons was noticeably angry after giambi's hit his walk-off HR.
EDIT: damn, 6-5 now??? i should keep posting. it's almost as effective as growing an uneven mustache...

speaking of 25-year old pitchers at trenton, they also have a kid named alfredo aceves that they pulled out of the mexican league. the scouts seem to like him a lot. he might be one to watch for. maybe he can replace pettitte.
Wild one today. Wish I could have watched it. We got the Dodger game here and no games were televised on the baseball package because of FOX's exclusive rights. Watching the highlights made it look like the game of the year.

should be ready for minor league games in a few weeks, i think.

interesting pick. not much velocity but they say he really knows how to pitch. good command, good movement, changes speeds well, nasty cutter...
yes he did. actually, i think he drafted his son. but don't quote me on that. st. louis drafted scott boras' son. suck ups. i wonder who his agent is?

yeah, that's total bullshit. I can see blocking out the 4:00 games. I don't like it, but I understand it. But there's no reason to block out the 1:00 games. Nice job, Interim Commissioner Bud Selig, you have eliminated Saturday afternoon baseball. Now, most games are played at 7:00. baseball was made to be played during the day, but the sheer greed of Bud Selig, so-called traditionalist has pretty much eliminated it. Of 15 games played today, 10 were night games.

are they both on the 40 man?

If your team sucks and you are currently in the middle of a negative streak, play the Yankees and your bad luck / bad steak will come to and end.

i believe he's done that twice in as many weeks. not bad.
it makes up for the monumental disaster that is jose tabata.
