really???
seems like the guys just been a figment of my imgination since we got him
and igotid..how many pitchers have come back from that and been even hlfway decent cause I sure as hell can't recall any
a ton of guys have come back from the surgery, not only decent but better than ever before in many cases. The only problem is that it usually takes a year to make it back, and another year to become effective again. Mariano had the surgery in the mid 90's, while in the minors. There are some guys who pitch well right away though. BJ Ryan made it back the fastest of anyone i've ever heard. He was operated on in May 2007 and pitched in April. Francisco Liriano had the surgery late in 2006, and when he came back this year he was awful. He went to the minors for a few months, and was pitching lights out when he got the call up.
The surgery actually helps pitchers a lot. the ligament they use as a replacement is stronger than the original, and most pitchers add a few MPH. The sick part of this is that there are parents and little league coaches who have kids get the surgery when they don't need it, in order to add a few MPH to the fastball0 -

we'll see
I hate that Hughes doesn't get the same respect as some other young pitchers. I know he had a bad April and has been hurt twice. But he's pitched well for the most part.I miss igotid880 -
tampa lost in a walk-off. they have a 10 game road trip. This weekend is gonna be tough for us. Hope we don't lose any ground. Looks like we might lose 2 out of 3. But I'm a pessimist.I miss igotid880

Matsui - no pain after running (so far) and Joba saying he'll be back in the rotation this month. I'm afraid to get my hopes up about any of this stuff. A week from now they could both be out until next May.
Regarding Andrew Brackman, I wouldn't expect to see him push for a spot in the roatation next year. He was still pretty raw at the time he was drafted. Lots of potential though when you are that tall and throw hard. He's also a heck of an athlete and a very good basketball player.
Moose - How many of us wanted to trade him this past off season? He's been awesome and the only thing separating him and a Cy Young is Cliff Lee.
Pitching Matchups for the weekend series. Going to be really interesting watching IPK and Giese pitch:
Tonight: RHP Ian Kennedy (0-3, 7.41) vs. RHP Jered Weaver (9-9, 4.37), 10:05, YES
Saturday: RHP Dan Giese (1-3, 2.51) vs. RHP John Lackey (9-2, 3.10), 3:55, FOX
Sunday: LHP Andy Pettitte (12-9, 4.34) vs. LHP Joe Saunders (14-5, 3.03), 3:35, YESBrian0 -

I actually wanted him back. But as a no.5 starter. Thought he was still good enough for that.I miss igotid880 -
WTF. I thought the Nady grounder that stayed fair was gonna finally pull things in our direction against the Angels. Now the Angels get bloop hit after bloop hit. And that should've been an error to Jeter. Looking at the replay it looks like he would've had him. But it was a slow roller.I miss igotid880

I know he's still young, but Kennedy is starting to look like a AAAA pitcher, much like Hensley Muelens was a AAAA hitter years ago. Too good for AAA, but not good enough for the bigs0
-
i was going to say lucky for the short wall in left field. Otherwise Nady's homerun would've been a double. And he would've been left stranded there. But Cano got a triple. Barely missing going back to back.I miss igotid880

If he had a few more mph in his fastball. Maybe he can be better. He has to pitch like Mussina with stuff he has.I miss igotid880 -
By the time I turned on the game Rasner was already in. Disappointing to see Kennedy with another poor outing. I was hoping to at least see some signs of hope, but, what, he only lasted 2 innings right? He may not be as naturally blessed as Joba and Hughes, but you know he has it in him because he pitched really well when called up last season. Not so sure he is going to get another shot this year though. Hughes probably gets the start the next time this spot comes around and either Giese or Rasner gets the other one.Brian0

"I felt like I made some good pitches," he said. "I'm not too upset about it. ... What was it, a bunch of singles and three doubles? I'm just not real upset about it. I'm just going to move on and I've already done that." :eek:Brian0

has anyone seen the panic button? i am about to press it.

I wouldn't be thrilled with those comments from Kennedy. They should have taught him to say. "I didn't pitch good, but I will learn from this, study what I did wrong and hopefully pitch better in my next start."Reading 2004

"I play good, hard-nosed basketball.
Things happen in the game. Nothing you
can do. I don't go and say,
"I'm gonna beat this guy up."0 -
this kid is something. This sin't the first time he's talked about "the good pitches I made" despite getting tattooed. He should take a lesson from pettitte and Mussina. Those guys will throw 8 innings of 1 run ball, and if the team loses 1-0, will take all of the blame. You'll never hear those guys say "I did my job" after 5 innings, 3 runs0

It's one thing to be privately confident and be able to mentally recover from playing bad and build on the positives. But not being willing to admit when you suck is another. He comes across as either arrogant or disillusioned. That's not going to win him any points with either the team or the fans.Brian0 -
Hopefully I can bring my Giants Super Bowl thread starting to the Yankees.
My prediction is 35-10.
I think Phil Hughes is gonna have a breakout year.I miss igotid880 -
No starter named for Wednesday that I can find. You gotta think Hughes.
I've been keeping track of that kid Denard Span for Minn. He's on my fantasy team now and he's been on fire. Hope he doesn't kill us this series.Brian0
