i knew exactly what he was talking about. i just finished re-reading a book about the cleveland indians. he also mentioned when ryan thompson hit a liner back to bryce florie at fenway park in 2000.

a couple of telling paragraphs in that story. Didn't mean much then, but now, different story
The 122nd and final pitch thrown by Roger Clemens tonight was a 96 mile-an-hour fastball, and when Carl Everett swung and missed, Clemens glared briefly at the Red Sox center fielder before strolling toward the Yankees' dugout. Somebody should have rolled out a carpet in his path.
The Red Sox went 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position tonight; in Clemens's 15 starts since June 9, opposing hitters are 9 for 88 (.102) with runners in scoring position. ''He's been like a locomotive,'' said Joe Torre, the Yankees' manager. ''He's gotten stronger and stronger.''

o yea i forgot to mention it's time warner also. this past month sucked.
I've had the same problems. I actually could not watch YES in HD the past feew days. It would freeze or just not work. I've had Time Warner for 1 month now and it has been a complete disaster to say the least. I've tried numerous times to switch providers but my building is only wired for shit TW.

so, who else thought that Blackburn was dead, or at best unconscious, when Abreu hit him? When his head flopped to the ground, and then both arms flopped also, I thought for sure it was lights out for him
I only saw the replay and he is very fortunate, it could have been so much worse. It looked so awful though. And poor bobby, I wanted to give him a hug. He was so shaken up.

soooooo..... what was the point of joba throwing only two innings?
thought they had him pitch 2 innings in relief for the past 3 weeks to gear him up to pitch LONGER as a starter.....????????
put him back in the pen.
He was limited to 65-75 pitches. They were hoping he would go 4 innings. But since he's a strikeout pitcher. He's gonna throw alot of pitches. And the Umpire was calling the close one's balls. Baby steps. He threw 64 today I think. Next start it'll be 75-80.
he threw 38 in the first inning, reached full counts on four of the first seven hitters.

when he walked the first batter. i knew it was gonna be a short outing. I hope Ramirez's outing doesn't make him lose confidence. I fell asleep. So I didn't see it. And of course my cable problems.
Joba had a touch of Farnsworth Syndrome tonight. All season, really, but it festered tonight. The worst was listening to Waldman try and make excuses for him about butterflies, and how hard it is to throw strikes in the first inning. If you can throw strikes in the 8th inning, you can throw strikes in the 1st inning. he stunk up the joint tonight, plain and simple. he certainly doesn't need Sterling and Waldman making excuses for him
i heard one cut of the broadcast and sterling was saying how toronto's first run was the softest run you'll ever see. jeez, how bout pointing out the great at-bat by stewart that set it up.
also, it was kind of amusing to see all the hype for this and roy halladay's six gritty innings fly under the radar.

6 innings is practically a half day at the office for Halladay. He's thrown 4 or 5 complete games already this year. The sad part is most of them have been losses. they don't make them like Ol' Doc anymore. Imagine if he could have stayed healthy his whole career

I think the Blue Jay's plan was to take pitches. And the ump from the little I was able to see. Had a tight strike zone. Might be wrong. But his next start is against the Royals. So hopefully it will be better. But you can't expect too much too quick. Maybe his third start will be a better look.

i figured if the jays added on, they'd take him out. he was at 102 through six. but i would have found it hard to believe that gibbons would bring armando benitez into a one-run game.

I figured the Jays would try that. That's very easy to defend against though. Strike 1, every batter. Especially when you have overpowering stuff. I'm not getting down on the guy though. I think he'll be fine, though I do think he hasn't been great since he went home for a week to be with his father. He's been very good since returning, but hasn't been the dominant Joba.

I just looked up his stats. Before tonight, he had made 11 starts, and thrown 89 innings, 2 of which came in a relief appearance. 5 complete games. Averaging a hair under 8 innings per start. The only reason I know so much (not the stats, had to look thsoe up) is because I traded Carlos Beltran to my brother in law for Halladay in a rotisserie keeper league over the winter

jeez, that's amazing, he's also one the quickest pitchers in the game. i know they tell pitchers to slow the game down when guys are on, but joba was incredibly slow with guys on and perhaps that led to some overthrowing since he might have been thinking more in between pitches.

Not to be a downer,...but I'm starting to think this squad is just not very good this year. Plain and simple. They often just seem so flat and lifeless(excpet for Joba & Girardi). The damn O's are more energetic and exciting to watch. The strange part is I really do think they have the right manager in Girardi. It may just be they now need a Girardi team which they dont have THIS year. Maybe a step back year in order to take a big step forward.

matsui's in the 9th last night was a back breaker. i know his bat has been hot lately, but i thought they would have bunted arod over to 2nd.
Thank you Matsui. Saw that stat the A-Rod doesn't have a homer against Halladay in 50 at bats.
my heart! chest pains!
as for this ball game, blech. Blech.
