True but in all fairness compare Jeter and M.Young. I love Jeter but he doesn't deserve to be the starter or even really make the all-star team this year.

good point. Jeter gets it as a Lifetime Achievement Award, and that's not right either

Oh no doubt. Hell even if he was hitting .170 instead of .270 he would be starting. That doesn't make it right but that is what happens when you let fans vote 25 times each.
Hey, you wouldn't hire a clown to fix a leak in the jon so why do you let these hooligans tear down the biz? YEEAAHHH. I don't care if he is Mr. Notorious BIG, can he croon?

you're right, i'm changing my stance on that. the guy is nuts, although i don't think he'd fire anyone at 3 am..
    hey everybody
ugh my cable line needs to be replaced, henceforth my cable modem was not working for almost 2 weeks :( It seems to be working tonight, I have a signal! Woo hoo!
but it still needs to be repaired

but in any event, I can't believe how they fired Willie like that. They did not do right by him. That is bad karma.

Anybody think he'll end up replacing Joe G.?

And hank needs to be quiet. Joe G. couldn't have said it any better when he said "despite what some people think, pitchers are athletes and they should be able to run." Or it was something like that. Sounds like he just tweaked something ? and unfortunately it was pretty bad.

I don't think he's going to replace Joe. Not anytime soon. Since the Yanks are winning. There's reports saying Hank might invite Willie to the All-Star Game.

if I were Willie I wouldn't go anywhere near a ball park for a while. I'd take a long vacation. Blech. I can't believe they did that to him like that.

6 game winning streak. A-Rod 4th straight game with a homer. Batting 337. I don't know how many more plate appearances he needs. But he should be leading as soon as he's qualified. And I think they're 19-9 since his return. Even though you can't predict this game. They should be able to win alot these next couple of weeks. But Boston and Tampa bay keep winning.

No.They sent him to triple A. He's a short term thing. Just looking for arms. They're not gonna go after a big name like Sabathia or A.J. Burnett. They're hoping to find what Aaron Small did for them a few years back.

I don't get this move at all. Why would you want this lunk around the young guys? Cashman with another brilliant pitching move. What, Jaret Wright wasn't available?

    From rotoworld.com

Despite his 4-1 record and 3.88 ERA, the Rangers decided to kick Ponson off the team due to "disrespectful and adverse reactions to situations unbecoming of teammates." He was designated for assignment ten days ago, and will now be granted his unconditional release.

and from espn.com, about the dickhead who was once arrested on Christmas Day for punching a judge on an Aruban beach

One report said Ponson had been put on notice by Texas officials after creating a disturbance at a hotel bar in Florida during a road trip. He had been informed that no other problems would be tolerated.

Ponson has had several other problems as well, including two DUI arrests from 2004-05.

Then they'll have to shell out big bucks. C.C. turned down $100 mil from the Indians. Not that they can't do it. But then they would've gotten Johan Santana. They're just gonna go with their young guys in the minors. And Rasner and Giese. Possibly Ponson. And teams know the Yanks are sort of vulnerable. And won't give up a good pitcher without asking for a Phil Hughes.

No, he won't replace Girardi, but how funny would it be if he joined the yes network and his first games were next weekend at Shea Stadium.

I could see him on the field at Yankee Stadium and fans cheering "Welcome Home".

I'd say minor leagues at this point. It would be great to seehim get a rousing standing ovation, in uniform at some point in the near future. He laid down with some mangy mutts, now he has to shake ff those fleas

I don't know. Being a coach for over a decade and then a manager for four years, would he want to go to the minors. That being said, he might have to rebuild his reputation because no matter how badly the Mets botched his firing, he still has that collapse on his hands and that might not be convincing enough for future employers unless he proves it on a level such as the minors.

Thing is, the Yankees aren't going to get rid of someone just to bring him back. So if he wanted a job with the Yankees, on the field, it would have to be in the minors. maybe not as a manager, maybe as a roving instructor, who works with all minor league teams.
  • Joba bringing the heat today. Gets outa bases loaded 0 outs jam with 2 big K's!!! (4 in the first 2 innings!)
What the hell happened with Gonzalez being out at home?

this is considered his first "full-time" start. which means I don't think he's really on a pitch count like he was before.

  • he's allowed about 105 pitches today. Most pitchers get the hook shortly after 100
  • Joba's final line.....
    5.2 innings; 4 hits, 3 walks, 9 k's; 100 pitches

  • great to win a 2-1 game. Always nice when you don't hit much, and win. For my money, there is absolutely nothing better in sports than Mariano Rivera coming into a daygame at Yankee Stadium to close it out. Something about the sun shining down on the Stadium.

Not to mention Mo striking out the side....

40-33. Doesn't look too bad. Not great, but not bad (especially with all the injuries thus far).

What was their record this time last year?

  • 40-33 would have looked bad in Spring Training. It looks pretty damn good now. I have to say, I thought Giambi was done as a major leaguer, and Damon was done as a leadoff hitter.
