What was their record this time last year?
Last year they were 35 - 33 on June 19th 07'. They were in 2nd place and 9 games back of Boston.
Hey, you wouldn't hire a clown to fix a leak in the jon so why do you let these hooligans tear down the biz? YEEAAHHH. I don't care if he is Mr. Notorious BIG, can he croon?

They showed a clip on Sportscenter of the S.I. Yanks vs. the Brooklyn Cyclones. And he was pitching against a switch-hitter. And everytime the batter tried switching sides. Pat switched the glove to his other hand. He finally struck him out and the batter slammed the bat.

They seemed destined to lose today. Robbed of hits. Not getting calls. But even tough Mussina didn't pitch great. He did go 8 innings. And saved the bullpen in case Geise can't go long.

I thought Mussina pitched pretty good. Damon killed him with that "double" in the 5th. No way that should have been ruled a base hit. It hit him in the glove. The whole inning, and game, change if he catches that ball. To Damon's credit, I bet he said after the game that he should have caught it. (I haven't seen any coverage, I've been too wrapped up in my fantasy teams and Huston street coughing it up in the 8th and 9th innings tonight) Still, another great game by Mussina. Who would have thought he pitch into the 8th inning even once this year? Not me.

Boston and Tampa lose finally and we can't gain. But didn't lose ground. But damn. Did you see the S.I. poll of MLB players on who's overrated. Jeter voted #1. And A-Rod was there also. A-rod overrated?

Laughable. The previous week, the poll was: What player would you choose to start a team with:

ARod was 1st, Jeter was 2nd.

The Reds announcers were talking about that on the broadcast last night. Their take (and mine) is that it has a lot to do with how much money those guys are making when you look at the results of the poll. How else can you explain calling A-Rod overrated?

That Volquez/Hamilton trade is looking like one hell of a deal for both the Reds and the Rangers.

yea. but even if you go by how much they make. A-Rod has lived up to his contract compared to other overpaid players.

They are all overpaid in my book, but those guys are over the $20 mill. per year mark and some people get caught up in those numbers too much. A player's salary has nothing to do with how they play on the field especially when you look at the Yankees roster. You hear a lot of naysayers point to the Yankee payroll and say they should win the WS every year. That's not a very logical argument. Just because they treat their players better in monetary compensation doesn't mean that they have the best team. It is still about what the player does when he is actually out there on the field.

But you are right about A-Rod in relationship to other players. I'm not sure how anyone could refer to the best player in the game as overrated.

BTW..........damn Reds. I thought we were catching a break by missing Harang this series, but those kids have shut us down. It looks like Geise pitched really well yesterday which is a good sign though.

A tale of 2 games yesterday. The Ponson experiment works.........at least for 1 night. I would assume he gets the start over Geise next turn.

Isn't today's game supposed to be on FOX? They're showing Cubs vs. Whitesox. I don't see any rain around here.

  • Really didn't like keeping Pettitte in there, but at least he recovered quickly from the HR. No way pettitte pitches after an hour rain delay if they have even a halfway decent bullpen.

I wonder if Mussina would be a viable option here, having thrown just an inning the other night? Then they'd have to throw someone else in his spot though, so.......

They brought up David Robertson. He's been doing great in the minors. Hopefully his stuff will translate in the majors.

it'll be more insane than normal rush hour traffic. to show how much they care about the bronx, they should do it up the grand concourse from 138th to 161 street instead.

but I don't think it's about the Bx though, it's about the celebration of the players. Or somebody's making money off it?

it should be in some way, all you hear about the yankee stadium project is that it will revitalize the area in a big way, a parade up its big street would be a good way to show it, although i'm sure those that live in the area wouldn't want it because of the added traffic.

    good point

well the shop owners on 6th will probably not be super excited either.
It sounds like such a once in a lifetime type thing. But I am not a big fan of large crowds like that.
Did you see the interview Bruce Beck did with Hank Aaron. It's in the sports section on wnbc.com
