Couldn't agree more - either move Joba back to the pen or call up some young arms who can get people out.

So that explains the golden thong. ;) Seriously though, nothing frustrates me more than a major league hitter who faces the shift and continues to hit grounders to the second baseman/4th outfielder. Didn't Giambi hit the ball the other way earlier in his career when he was in Oakland?

They have some young hurlers they're thinking of bringing up in case Farnsworth or Hawkins can't do the job. I forget their names. But they've promoted a few pitchers.

Any of you find it wierd that only about 700 or so of Jeter's hits out the 2416 were hit to right. I was thinking 1900 went to right.

Now only if they would be consistant.

What the hell is wrong with Wang?? Geez.........our fielders haven't been helping our pitchers out there either.

  • Is it me or does the Yanks pitching staff walk A LOT of guys. Again today....8 walks including a hit batter (thru 8)

Not to mention the countless double plays Yanks have hit into. 0 out with man on first is the usual situation.

yeah, the walks could have easily killed them today, and put the game out of reach. Luckily, Toronto didn't capitalize.

Info posted on The LoHud Blogabout the Yanks first pick in the draft today:
Here is the Baseball American scouting report on Cole:

Cole is the best righthander out of Southern California since Phil Hughes starred at Santa Ana’s Foothills High in 2004. Cole’s four-seam fastball ranges from 93-96 mph, occasionally peaking at 97-98. He adds a hard, late-breaking curve which shows bite, tilt and depth. Cole used his changeup sparingly early in the season, though he used it more later. Adding to Cole’s considerable appeal to scouts is his tall, lanky and projectable frame, which is nearly ideal for a prep righthander. Scouts are split over whether Cole profiles as a starter or closer. He maintains velocity and pitch movement deep into games, but his inconsistent command and tendency to run up high pitch counts may move him to the bullpen. Some scouts have compared him to Mariners closer J.J. Putz. Cole does bring mechanical concerns. He lands on a stiff front leg, and he recoils his arm during his follow-through. Both hurt control and raise injury concerns. Complicating the situation, Cole’s adviser is the Scott Boras Corp., which may eliminate many clubs from consideration. Cole also hasn’t endeared himself to scouts or teammates with what one scout described as his immature mound demeanor.

  • just keep grabbing those hard throwing pitchers. Hopefully a few of them work out. What's up with Humberto Sanchez? Anyone know if he's back yet? He sounds like a guy who could help the bullpen this year, if healthy

and did you see who the Red Sox drafted? Pat Kelly's kid Casey. He's been recruited to play QB at tennessee, so hopefully he goes that route. I say hopefully, but you'd figure Boston wouldn't draft him in the 1st round if they thought he was going to go to college

checking out the recap at mlb.com. The Yankees grabbed another pitcher (a lefty) in the 2nd round. Jeremy Bleich.

The 1st overall pick was born in 1990. Wow, am I getting old. My baseball career was over by 1990, as I switched to beer league softball in 1990, at the ripe old age of 16

Also, Lenny Dykstra's kid Cutter was drafted by the Brewers, 54th overall. No word yet if Dykstra will show up at Spring Training next year having added 40 pounds of muscle to his slender frame

What a shocker. omar Minaya drafted a kid from the Puerto Rico baseball Academy HS

Add another pitcher for teh yankees, a righty, Joseph Bittle. Comes to us from the Univ. of Mississippi

Did the White Sox GM draft himself? Kenneth Williams selected by the ChiSox 180th overall

Another flamethrower for the Bombers, this one out of Ross Sterling HS in Texas. Brett Marshall. Based on his write up, I'm surprised he made it to them at 200. A HS kid throwing 96. Wow

Comments: Marshall has leapt on the map showing a huge jump in velocity, from 87-88 mph a year ago all the way up to 96 this year. He's got a plus slider to go along with it. The changeup lags behind, but that can come in time. He's relatively new to pitching and it shows in his delivery and his inability to repeat his mechanics. But with two plus pitches right now, Marshall's name is certainly on the rise.

They showed a stat on YES on the run support for Rasner. In his first 3 starts 8-5-8 all wins. Last 3 1-0-1 all losses.

yeah, that was ridiculous. Can't say it cost them the game, as Cano may have just grounded out to end it---but wow. The umps need to get some consistency on these check swing calls. Today you'll see Giambi get rung up for barely a hitch, and tomorrow you'll see someone called safe for a near full swing. I'm sure a tape of that call will be sent to MLB. George was famous for that, i'm sure Hank will be doing that now. 9 guys left on base tonight. Melky killed them with 1 out and Cano on 3rd. Melky and Cano need a fire lit under their asses. Larry Bowa is missed. I wonder if calling up Brett Gardner or Austin Jackson would light that fire under melky's ass.

Jackson's numbers so far at Trenton (AAA)

    .278 3 HR's 35 RBI 8/10 in SB attempts

jackson had a sick game the other day, seven RBI. As for Gardner, i'd take him just for the sole purpose of having some speed on the bases. Right now, on most nights the faster runner off the bench is Shelley Duncan.
