yeah, but giambi eats pitches and takes his walks and gets on base.

duncan won't take a walk for shit.

Nice game by Rasner. Alex got robbed of a homerun by the umps. And now they're starting the process of Joba becoming a starter.

was there any special reason jeter and a-rod were pulled out in the 7th? i'm at work, and the reception on the radio was complete watery shit tonight. i'm guessing because they were up by 8?

  • looks liek Joba is headed to the rotation. from sportsline.com

Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain threw two innings of relief in Wednesday's blowout win over the Orioles, raising some eyebrows as to whether the Yankees were beginning to stretch him out for a move into the rotation. Shortly after the game, manager Joe Girardi was asked on the YES Network broadcast if that was the case and he confirmed it. "The process has started, converting Joba to a starter, and tonight was the first [step] of extending him a little bit and we'll continue to do it, getting him up to where he can throw enough pitches," said Girardi. Chamberlain threw 35 pitches Wednesday in two innings, his second highest total of the season. He gave up just one hit, but walked two batters and struck out three.

it's definitely happening, it's going to be a gradual process to build up his arm. there's not a specific timetable so my guess is sometime in the summer.

I'd have to guess that the process will take about a month to a month and a half. If he is not starting by the allstar break he will be in the rotation right after the AS break i would imagine.

I just hope it is not too soon. Obviously they don't want his innings to get too high this year in hopes of avoiding an injury.

Rasner pitched well last night which is great. Glad to see they found their bats.

does this mean the yanks hit the panic button?

good to see a-rod crushing the ball, but still looks far from 100% running out of the box. i felt pain in my leg watching him try and run last night!

So the Yanks are going to be trusting the 7th and 8th inning to LaTroy Hawkins and Kyle Farnsworth?

For all of your sakes, I hope the Yanks don't have a lot of close games this year.

I don't like the Joba move right now - I like the way it is now with the 8th & 9th being a virtual lock. I understand the starting pitching has not been very good, but I'm still not sure about this......
    My lips are shaking.......

The 8th inning belongs to Kyle Farnsworth? Sounds like the Yanks are looking for another saviour in the minors like they had with Joba last year. Guys are starting to get promoted up the ladder in the minors. I still think we will see Joba bridge to Mo at times, but it will be for 2 or 3 innings and there will be more time between appearances. The good news is that he will probably be an excellent starting pitcher. I just wish they would have started the transition before the season.

absolutely. the yankees have made several recent moves that were directly related to this one. j.b. cox, dave robertson, and dan mccutchen (who could move to the bullpen) were promoted AAA while mark melancon was promoted to AA. it sounds like the organization thinks that one of them will be ready by the time joba becomes a starter.

it's difficult to project a high level of success for any of those guys, but kyle farnsworth certainly won't be the one standing in their way.

this is a good blog for anyone who's interested in the yankees' minor league transactions:

good win tonight. kennedy was much better. he could have unraveled in the third inning but he didn't. he didn't really have his good changeup but he pitched with a lot more confidence than we've seen from him this year. overall, it was very encouraging.

it was nice to see girardi flip out on the umpire and even nicer to see the team respond like they did.
  • does this mean the yanks hit the panic button?

no, leaving him in the bullpen would have been a panic move. this was the plan all along.

but i'm sure some of these guys think it was a panic move. ;)

have i ever mentioned before how awesome nomaas is? :D

Joe G. gets a 1 game suspension. I missed the game thanks to a local cable blackout on all O's games so I didn't see the "altercation". After reading the news this morning I assumed it wasn't enough to warrant a suspension. Guess MLB felt otherwise.

Jeter leading off tonight and Damon sitting out.

Good news is Felix Hernandez was scratched so it looks like the Yanks will miss him this series.

I think Sunday's game is being broadcast nationally on TBS. So they don't carry the Braves anymore?

Joba scheduled to go (about 45 pitches) on Saturday after Moose who will be pitching on short rest.

  • check out Mike Mussina, making a bid to get on the All-Star team. He's got 7 wins now, with about 6 weeks to go. Not too many 10 win pitchers get left off the All Star team

Maybe he'll get 20 wins for the first time in his career. But with Joba going into the rotation. If Kennedy and Rasner continue to pitch well. And Hughes coming back in July. I don't think they're gonna have a 7 man rotation.

love the fact that the yankees are blasting run dmc out of the clubhouse boombox after the last few wins.

Nice comeback. First back to back series win this year. And Rivera didn't get his 12th save last year until July 5th.

Another good outing by Rasner yesterday. Too bad they couldn't get him any runs and the bullpen didn't help him out.

Betemit back tonight and will be starting at 1B.

I knew they were playing well, but I didn't realize that the Rays had the best record in baseball. Wow!
