Might as well buy up what you can because if Obama gets his way you will have to stop the attackers from raping your wife by asking them to stop and negotiate first.

I'm already loaded up, simply because I like guns. I would not hesitate in defending my property from some thug who thinks it is his right to steal from me. 'Foo' got another thing coming. I worked for what I have, I'm certainly not going to let some society reject take something from me. Besides if they are out robbing homes I don't think too many people will complain that they are gone.

I have the right to defend my family and my property.

oh please why dont you just be a man and punch them in the face. unless theyre into that kind of kinky shit that should stop them cold. :p:D

We're supposed to be... but, we ain't. It's no wonder the government keeps the truth from us... we panic.
Even with a depression... the world will NOT disappear. We shouldn't have to de-evolve into cavemen... take up arms... turn our homes into armed encampments. How is THAT freedom?
Yeah... things will get tough. But, we'll still survive. But, we will need to stick together. It's all of this fear that 'THEY' will come storming our front doors to take our cans of Campbells soup. Not gonna happen... unless we LET it happen.
    ...
And yeah... I said it... "Guns are for pussies". Pussies that'll stick a gun in the face of an unarmed woman behind a counter of a 7-11 for 35 bucks and a carton of Winstons... pussies too fucking weak to to bring his two fists into a fight.
If I have something to spare... I'll share it with you if you're hungry. If you need to take it from me... fucking take it. Anyone that needs to point a gun in my face to take it... is a fucking pussy.
If I'm hungry and you have food... I'll ask. You don't need to point a gun at me. All you have to say is, "No"... and I'll go elsewhere. And yeah... even if I lose all my material bullshit... it doesn't really matter. I will NEVER forfeit my humanity.

im not in a panic by any means. and im not just talking about the economy. im talking about how much things have changed in just the past 15 years !
its sad to me that very few people understood where i was coming from with the OP. anyone here that knows me , knows im not the "panic" type, and im not a gun guy. i am however, fully aware of our current sitiuation in this country, and the WORLD ! we are hated by most of the entire world .
i think that is lost on some of you.

See, I think that was much better. (not that I'm your fucking teacher or you need to impress me or anything...) But that's more an expansion of thoughts and something that invites a conversation or helps one flourish.

Taking up arms in the absence of economic stability is in no way an advancement of personal freedom--something that the country was founded on, is part of a discussion.

(As well as a good point, in my opinion.)

Same shit, different day. Buy a gun to protect your family and property if it makes you feel more secure. If it's in the hands of someone resposnsible i don't have a problem with that.

I do have a problem with the sort of people who own one and then openly boast about it as though it's something special and that they are automtically tough guys. Like hello, get a grip, grow some balls and get over yourselves. That's why people call those types stupid pussy rednecks. Because that's what they are.

I work in the county jail and if it hits the fan, who knows when I wlll be back home.... The sarge told us last week to have extra uniforms and toiletries stuff in our locker... Granted its fire season time... but I got a strange vibe with the request this time....
We were told we would be written up if we didn't have the extra shit.

you are not the only one being told this kinda stuff. like i said. i have been doing a shit load of research for a book, ive talked to a lot of people, and some in some very .........delicate jobs to say the least. its almost as if our country is gearing up for martial law. that is the vibe i get from talking to these people. at first i blew it off, but when it becomes the common factor with everyone i talk to..........its hard to blow off.

This sounds interesting. Is there any evidence that you can share about people being told to prepare for such measures? If corrections officers are being told this, then I imagine police officers are being told something similar.

I would like to hear this elaborated upon.

I'm of two minds about owning a gun during martial law--if the army is on my street, I don't think I'm going to be able to (or need to) shoot it out with them. At the same time, in that situation, anyone threatening me, would be mindless to do so without being armed--of course, I find it hard to believe people will be rioting in the streets and breaking into my house to steal food. At least, I don't see that happening any time too soon.

Does anyone smarter than myself (or perhaps just better researched than myself) know if this was a common thing during the great depression?

    but why?????

why is there talk of martial law? and who's doing the talking? are there rumblings that the government is going to be overthrown? have there been threats to the stability of your country aside from the monumentally amusing economic downturn? for me when i think the need for martial law, i think imminent threat and danger to the people by a force agitating from within. or by the people towards the government. what is going on in your country that this is even being talked about, no matter how benignly.

Interesting. I'm a critical care paramedic and work ridiculous hours already. Don't know who is going to fix up your broken asses when you all start shooting anything that moves, because we are busy as hell all the time anyway. Better get ready to start stepping over dead people folks.

And for the record, i obviously work closely with the other essential services and have had no one tell me to start gearing up for martial law.

I believe we may be bearing witness to the decline of America as the world's leading Super Power. I also believe that History will record that this place and time is when we lost our grasp and the power of China rose to take our place.
Is it the end of America? NO. Remember, it wasn't all that long ago when Britania was the world's greatest Super Power. Did they disappear? NO. They remain a great country that enjoys Freedom and Democracy (they just need to let go of that bullshit figurehead Monarchy they got that the old guard is clinging to).
We have no one to blame but ourselves. Our greed and arrogance is our downfall. We were given a once in a lifetime opportunity to solidify our place as the World's Leader... a benevolent, caring Super Power who had more friends than enemies... but, we squandered it with our arrogance and self-righteousness. We **should** have... could have lead the world... but we decided to go it alone and lost the respect of both friends and enemies along the way. America has lost her way and we need to get her back on track. We may not be the leader in the future... but, it will not be the end of America... unless we let our arrogance destroy us.

i was really just blown away, by just making a few phone calls stating my purpose of doing research for a book that is/was intended to be a work of fiction, and where it got me. and how many people would talk to me, though most were "off the record". i was blown away. and to be honest, i was so into the research, that it took a few people that ive been running ideas passed, that said "whaooo hold on, they said that"? i was so focused on getting info, that the info i was getting was actually being lost on me.
it was afterward, that when it came time to go back and read my notes, that i was actually seeing the common thread, the common wording from all that i spoke with.

it was just an overwhelming shock to my system.

i didnt say, "we ARE gearing up for Martial Law" i said that it seems to me that we are.

with all that being said, the same people that talked to me, all but one will not take or return my calls now. idk what it all means, i dont. im not saying it MEANS anything at all. im saying it struck me as.........off. and maybe opened my eyes to things i didnt see b4.

I see your point and I understand how the reaction to fear - especially of harm coming to your loved ones - could be feeling like you need to buy a gun.

But I'm reminded of my great-grandmother's stories of the Depression. She had four kids to feed and protect. They were extremely poor like most people. And yet she always shared whatever food she had with anyone who needed it. As a matter of fact, she got more than her fair share of hobos coming to her for food so she finally asked one of them why they came to her house instead of going to her neighbors, espcially considering that she really didn't have extra food. Apparently someone had marked an X in front of her house to indicate that there lived a kind soul who wouldn't watch another person go hungry. It is my hope that, if ever faced with the same situation, I will be as good a person as my great-grandmother was.

i was really just blown away, by just making a few phone calls stating my purpose of doing research for a book that is/was intended to be a work of fiction, and where it got me. and how many people would talk to me, though most were "off the record". i was blown away. and to be honest, i was so into the research, that it took a few people that ive been running ideas passed, that said "whaooo hold on, they said that"? i was so focused on getting info, that the info i was getting was actually being lost on me.
it was afterward, that when it came time to go back and read my notes, that i was actually seeing the common thread, the common wording from all that i spoke with.

it was just an overwhelming shock to my system.

i didnt say, "we ARE gearing up for Martial Law" i said that it seems to me that we are.

with all that being said, the same people that talked to me, all but one will not take or return my calls now. idk what it all means, i dont. im not saying it MEANS anything at all. im saying it struck me as.........off. and maybe opened my eyes to things i didnt see b4.

Dude.. I dont know you and I certainly do not intend for this to sound bitchy.. but you are sounding slightly delusional and really paranoid. Maybe you should take a break from this "book" and try focusing on all the great things in life.. rather than a BIG WHAT IF with martial law?

can you be certain these were just blowhards spouting off for effect or their own amusement? sometimes an innocuous comment can get turned into something else. dont think im doubting you, im not. im just interested in the mindset involved. the US is truly a fascinating country when it comes to shit like this. its equal parts amusing-as-all-get-out and scary-as-hell. :)

of course i cant be certain.
but your last line " its equal parts amusing-as-all-get-out and scary-as-hell."

this is what ive been seeing from all that i talk to about this. either its noway, or fuck yeah, it could happen. there has been very little middle ground.

as far as the people ive talked to ......... i really dont see what the upside is to them telling me more than they prob. should have told me.

thats fine. i wonder why you put book in " " really.

and martial law has very little to do with the book im writing. it was just me trying to find out a few things ( as most writers do so what they are writing can be easily digested and easy to believe ) about martial law. it was the things that i was told that made me think way different about it.

so i have been answering questions that i never intended to have to answer.

my question to you is why the "book" ?
its as if you dont believe im writing a book or something.

anyone here who knows me knows i am a writer, and knows ive been working on this book for at least the last 6 months.
    Peace, Love.

actually that comment was more about the general state of your country. this martial law speculative hoohah would fall into the "scary as hell cause its so amusing" category.
i just dont get the talk. the US may be many things, but a country capable of descending into martial law isnt one of them to me. not in current circumstances anyways.

then why for the first time in the history of the united states, does the president now have the ability to declare martial law all on his/her own.
he would need no support to do so now. that is scary to me.
along with all the shit that came with the patriot act. we are fast becoming a place that it could happen. and for any reason the president sees fit.

So property is more valuable than life, huh?

Yes. My property is more valuable than some criminal's life that is trying to steal it. If someone is in your house are you going to take the chance that they don't go and rape your 15 year old daughter or wife? How would you deal with it?

The point is they may come in for a DVD player but the threat is there to do more. I choose to end that threat and save my family.
