Jeremy1012 wrote:My point is that the worrying ease with which a firearm can be bought by any clown off the street is one of the reasons why people get shot. It's a fairly logical link. Not everyone who buys one knows what they're doing. Not everyone who buys one has any business owning one. Anyone can have a gun. I know for a fact that 3/4 of the people I know wouldn't have a clue what to do with a gun but if they were American they could walk into a shop and buy an assault rifle. The fact that this doesn't worry you, with your apparent expertise, is shocking to me.
There are several misconceptions apparent in this post, but no, it doesn't worry me. Crime rates in inner cities bother me and that needs to be addressed. That is the root of the problem.0 -
Sorry all, my figures are off slightly...
U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies.

Did you seriously just call me a jackass? Good grief. If you get that worked up that easily, you probably shouldn't own a gun.69charger wrote:there are 200 million firearms in the US. If what you are proposing to be true was actually the way things are, then we should all be dead several times over!!!
I'm sorry - are you confused about what I am proposing?
Let me restate my point:
I am proposing that your statement, "You have COMPLETE CONTROL over who or what you hit" is false.
First of all, this is bullshit if nothing else than because your statement is so exreme & absolute.
Secondly, you've assumed that all the people with guns follow your rules. Everyone knows that's bullshit.
In the city where I live, many people still shoot guns into the air to celebrate New Year's and the 4th of July. You can't tell me that ANY of those people had complete control over who or what they hit.
And that's not to mention drive-by shootings, accidental discharge of firearms, people who just plain have bad aim, etc., etc...69charger wrote:Nothing is impossible it's just that some things are extremely improbable. Just like your view of a person's inability to effectively control a firearm (which can be statistically proven false).
I never said people can't effectively control firearms. I said they don't always control their firearms. Of course sometimes they do.69charger wrote:In my lifetime I have probably shot close to 40,000 rounds of ammunition through all sorts of different guns in all different types of situations. Never have I had a 'close call' or damaged anything that I didn't intend to damage (I did forget to put my earplugs in when shooting a rifle in 7mm STW and I will NEVER do that again! ).
I think you greatly overestimate the power of guns and I think you are scared of them to a large degree.
If others were as irresponsible as you claim, then you'd expect firearm homicides to be more than 0.0085% of the 200,000,000 firearms in the US, right?
Oh, please...
I'm not afraid of guns. I used to own a gun. I grew up in the same kind of redneck, gun-totin' family that you seem to have. Just this weekend my dad's birthday party turned into a show-and-tell of everyone's concealed carry liscenses.
I'm not afraid of guns, but I am quite well aware of what damage they can do. And I take it seriously, and I value life. I have seen, smelled, and touched, up close and personal, many people who have been shot to death.
You say you take it seriously but you don't act like you do. As I believe someone has already pointed out, you don't come across as being mature enough to own a gun. And evading legitimate questions, making extreme statements, calling people names, and accusing everyone who even slightly disagrees with you of being afraid of guns surely doesn't help your case.0 -

What a travesty... This is the start of the article....
In 2000, 174 children (0-18) in the United States died from unintentional firearm-related injuries. Unintentional injuries are usually caused when children play with guns or are hunting.....0 -

Nice. I just did my first a RRA .223. It was so much fun and turned out so well that I bought four receivers for future use. Since the receiver is the only part the feds care about I can build the rest later, and Mr. Obama can't do anything about it.
I am now also in the market for a pre-ban Colt and I need a newer HK 93 to replace one I sold.0 -
I just saw on CNN that assault weapon sales have tripled this month? I'm not sure why.0

you could just buy viagra... it'd be a shitload cheaper... although i see you prefer to shoot a different kind of load.oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -

Gun sales in general are up... It probably has a lot to do with groups like the NRA and the right wing radio crowd foaming at the mouth about the false fear of Obama taking away guns.My whole life

The NRA supports gun shows like the one in Massachusetts this weekend where an 8 year old boy was allowed to fire an Uzi. The recoil from this fully automatic weapon caused the gun to fire into his head, killing him. Then the NRA has the nerve to defend this senseless death, citing their great "Safety Record". This is insane. It is like teaching your 8 year old to shoot heroin. The NRA sucks.0
