Got my cd and shirt in the mail today......sounding great so far....money well spent.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.
Wow, I can't find this cd anywhere. Looks like I might be forced to download it.
Interesting.....I have not looked for it locally as the best locally-owned CD shop closed at the December, and I ordered it from the label.

Either way I'll buy it when I find it. I just don't get how Toronto never seems to have DTB's cd's I'm looking for. Years ago I couldn't find The Dirty South, and now they seem to have everything but the new one.
My sister-in-law has tried her best to indoctrinate me, but I just can't get into DBT. She's burned NUMEROUS CD's for me and forced me to watch their DVD, but I'm just not feeling it :(. Do I need to see them live or am I a hopless case?

And has anyone seen the record on vinyl in any of the shops?
It's a pewter/gunmetal gray with a Wes Freed design on the front. The design has a black ground featuring a tour bus driving from left to right. "Drive-By Truckers" and the bus are in white. "The Home Front World Tour 2008" are in the color of the shirt underneath the bus on the design. It ain't too shabby.

i was actually a little disappointed in this album. i feel like i was expecting a little more energy from them, and this record moves a little slow. that said, there are a few songs that really stood out for me, and some that i could tell would take some time to grow on me, so perhaps i just need to give it some more time and more spins. i really do miss isbell too; but shonna's songs are pretty good, and i love her vocals.

Be sure to give it a few spins...it's definitely a grower. Would have liked a little more ROCK, but, with The Dirt Underneath tour under their belts, not surprised at the mellower vibe. That said, many stunners in my mind.

I agree the new one doesn`t come out and hit you over the head like the previous few have. I really got into DBT around SRO so That Man I shot is what I`ve come to expect, but it is growning on me more than I thought it would.
I listened to BTCD for the first time Friday night and I was like "what the hell" .... it`s growing. I REALLY miss Jason though, Shonna`s songs do nothing for me.
Overall solid album though, I`ll go check them out with the new lineup in March - I`ve seen about 30 shows with Jason Isbell
It's a grower people. The first 5 listens I wasn't really impressed. But damn then it growed, especially when play loud it's very good. Favorites so far are Two Daughters and a Beautiful Wife, The Righteous Path, Bob, That Man I Shot and A Ghost to Most.
I'm loving the new album so far. I think it's a significant improvement over ABAAC. I thought that one had 4-5 great tunes but the rest was inconsistent for me. I'm planning to see at least 7 shows on the first leg of the tour and am very excited for the shows. I haven't seen DBT since last July.
You see me empty, Sir, do not pause and inquire, simply assume and refill.

Best album of 2008 so far. With all due respect to Jason Isbell, I think this may be the best record they've ever made. You can't replace a guy like that, but Shonna Tucker does an admirable job taking over as the 3rd songwriter. Her songs aren't near as good as Cooley's or Hood's, but I still like them. A mediocre DBT song is still better than 99% of the shit you hear on radio or MTV these days. Great album!
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

I'm with you, Brother, but I do love "The Purgatory Line."

Got a copy over lunch. I think I got the only copy in Toronto. Dam record stores have bad taste in music where I live.
Glad to hear that you finally scored the album.....and I always had great respect for the city of Toronto.

Can't wait to get home and listen to it on my stereo (also picked up an old Neil Young cd).
Haha, try living here. Toronto has it's pros, but I'm not a huge fan of it. For the most part people are pretty rude. I can't wait to get more of that southern hospitality sometime ; )
3rd time through in as many days. Enjoying this disc quite a bit, classic (pre-Isbell) DBT to me. Reminds me a bit of Decoration Day/Pizza Deliverance in tone.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.
I'm with you, Brother, but I do love "The Purgatory Line."
Agreed. Definitely her best song of the three.

What's this mean? "waiting for the Purgatory Line"? I'm guessing something in between life and death, but I'm not grasping the meaning of this song.
Also, what do you think 3 dimes down is about? I'm guessing it might have to do with willing to help people out, and in fact give beyond what most might, but still isn't good enough. Or willing to pay above and beyond (whether is be cash or not) and still not be good enough. Hence, willing to pay 3 dimes but they'll only accept a quarter. Think I'm close?

I think that you went in the wrong direction on this one...."25 cents shy of a slice of the Doublemint twins....Come back, baby....Rock n' Roll never forgets." sounds more like a young Stroker Ace trying to hit one out of the park with a couple of young ladies back in the day...to me anyway.
As to "Purgatory Line," remember that the writer/singer just went through a divorce that was personal and professional.

I've never been great trying figure out lyrics that are somewhat hidden, but couldn't help after reading the ones to BTCD's last night. You may be right with what you're saying...I'll have to listen to the song again what that in mind.

Haha, looks like I'm way off with 3 dimes down. All the talk about the girls in the back seat etc. I was speaking more of having only 3 dimes, but not good enough.
Great album though. Really digging Cooley's songs right now. Had Self Destructive Zone in my head all day..about to go play it for my 3rd time this hour : )
This album is really great but it makes me miss Isbell in the Truckers that much more. I think Shonna's songs are really good. The opener "Two Daughters and a Beautiful Wife" is my favorite so far probably because it strikes a personal nerve in me in the fact that it was written about my neighbors a block away here in Richmond and the terrible tragic murder of Harvey's family. I don't understand the negativity towards ABAAC, even Patterson seems to not like it much and they usually never include one song off of it live anymore. I started listening to it again and it is so good, "Goodbye", "World of Hurt", "Little Bonnie, "Space City", "Daylight", "Aftermath USA" hell they are all good! My favorite album from them still remains "The Dirty South." That album was a masterpiece in my opinion. Anyways this new album is good, I need to listen to it more but they were a much better band with Isbell. When he was with DBT they were up there with Pearl Jam both live and study for me. He was probably the most talented natural songwriter in the group in my opinion. I like his new stuff but I feel both bands like something when they are not together. Oh well can't cry over spilt milk. Can't wait to listen to more of the album as I already love it, I just hope it hits me more.
