Seriously, apparently Patterson is giving copies away:

The DBT appear to be avoiding San Diego recently. Looks like I may have to drive up to Disneyland to see them on a monday night.

I know, I know, no sympathy from the southern contingent on the board.

Just like Blessing and a Curse, I'm steering clear of any previews/leaks of this disc. I was listening to Southern Rock Opera today and was reminded of just how fierce a duo that Hood & Cooley are.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Nothing that We can easily make in the first round either. I will be out of the country for the Athens, GA dates. :(

I agree with you, merkinball, I am going to avoid the leaks and previews. The album will be waiting on me when I get back from Costa Rica.

I read the last page of a book first...so, if something comes down the pike, I'll listen.

Hopefully, they'll announce more dates along the way but, as it stands, I'm going to try and hit the St. Louis show.

Nice! I'll definitely hit up Urbana & Milwaukee...the others are still up for debate.

Patterson's top 10 records, movies, etc. of 2007

So interesting to see the range of music he's been into this year - everything from Iron & Wine and Porter Wagoner to Radiohead and Wilco. It's definitely reflected in the new disc, I think.

  • Anaheim and L.A. for me... nothing going to stop me this time...
  • And now, after hearing 2 minute blurbs of everything - Righteous Path is really sounding good and sounds like the perfect song for driving fast...

According the yahoo DBT list, those pollstar dates may be opening/co-headlining dates with the North Mississippi All-Stars.

read that to mean possibly a shorter DBT set.

Hmmm...well, that may change some plans then. Hopefully, we'll get an official announcement soon.

Meanwhile, Goodsfield Road is shaping to be a new favorite. Actually, I haven't heard anything from this new disc that I dislike. Granted, most of it is live material from "Dirt Underneath", but it's all sounding good.

And...as much as I hate not having Jason around for this disc...I'm glad Neff is on board full time. His steel work fits in great.

Patterson had an interesting story to tell about that one when he played it Saturday - apparently it's about a guy from his hometown who took out a contract on himself. He got involved in some bad stuff and just wanted to end it all, but couldn't kill himself because then his wife & kids wouldn't get the insurance money. So he paid someone else to do it.

Dark and disturbing, but just another example of how these guys are unparalleled storytellers.

    I don't like the idea of co-headlining with North Mississippi All-Stars... :(

They co-headlined one of the Birmingham Thanksgiving shows w/NMAS.....I think they both played for two hours. Great show, btw.

My wife says....yes, they both played for two hours.

Ok, looking at the NMAS site, I may have misspoke.

Only two dates are listed with the DBT (and the Felice Brothers). That would be the 2/11 (Anaheim) and 2/12 (L.A) Show.

Speaking of the NMAS, they are touring with Robert Randolph as the Word for 4 shows at the end of the year. I'd love to catch one of these shows, it was their gospel side project.

I enjoyed NMAS, but I could not get into the Robert Randolph family band...they were on the same bill as DBT and the Black Crowes.

  • FUCK! I want my first DBT concert to where DBT has a full set. My first and only PJ show so far was with tom petty and i feel i did not get near the full experience out of a PJ show and was a little let down.

The first time I saw RRFB, they were incredible, I've seen them 3x since and it doesn't seem like there has been any growth. He's a great pedal steel player, but the songwriting is lacking. I agree, they didn't seem to fit on the Black Crowes/DBT tour.

Yeah, don't know which show I've been listening to, but he lays it all out in that version too.

Is the spoken word beginning going to be included in the album version?
