According the yahoo DBT list, those pollstar dates may be opening/co-headlining dates with the North Mississippi All-Stars.
read that to mean possibly a shorter DBT set.
Hmmm...well, that may change some plans then. Hopefully, we'll get an official announcement soon.
Meanwhile, Goodsfield Road is shaping to be a new favorite. Actually, I haven't heard anything from this new disc that I dislike. Granted, most of it is live material from "Dirt Underneath", but it's all sounding good.
And...as much as I hate not having Jason around for this disc...I'm glad Neff is on board full time. His steel work fits in great.

Patterson had an interesting story to tell about that one when he played it Saturday - apparently it's about a guy from his hometown who took out a contract on himself. He got involved in some bad stuff and just wanted to end it all, but couldn't kill himself because then his wife & kids wouldn't get the insurance money. So he paid someone else to do it.
Dark and disturbing, but just another example of how these guys are unparalleled storytellers.
I don't like the idea of co-headlining with North Mississippi All-Stars... :(

They co-headlined one of the Birmingham Thanksgiving shows w/NMAS.....I think they both played for two hours. Great show, btw.
My wife says....yes, they both played for two hours.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

Ok, looking at the NMAS site, I may have misspoke.
Only two dates are listed with the DBT (and the Felice Brothers). That would be the 2/11 (Anaheim) and 2/12 (L.A) Show.
Speaking of the NMAS, they are touring with Robert Randolph as the Word for 4 shows at the end of the year. I'd love to catch one of these shows, it was their gospel side project.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

I enjoyed NMAS, but I could not get into the Robert Randolph family band...they were on the same bill as DBT and the Black Crowes.

FUCK! I want my first DBT concert to where DBT has a full set. My first and only PJ show so far was with tom petty and i feel i did not get near the full experience out of a PJ show and was a little let down.

The first time I saw RRFB, they were incredible, I've seen them 3x since and it doesn't seem like there has been any growth. He's a great pedal steel player, but the songwriting is lacking. I agree, they didn't seem to fit on the Black Crowes/DBT tour.

Is the spoken word beginning going to be included in the album version?

Brighter Than Creation's Dark EP will be available at iTunes and all other DSPs (Rhapsody, Yahoo Music, MSN/Zune) on Tuesday 12/18. Tracks are: Two Daughters And A Beautiful Wife, 3 Dimes Down , The Righteous Path, and The Purgatory Line.
If you buy any track from the EP at iTunes, it will be credited to the purchase of the full album (this is called the Complete My Album program).
As much as I really want to hear the full version of these songs (like, yesterday ) - I really want to buy the record on vinyl when it comes out.

As good as 18 Wheels of Love is...nothing beats a full-fledged live version with the intro from Patterson.

I just got the notification on the torrent site I have been using (libble.com) Not high quality (128 AAC), but its out there now.
Also can't download cause I am work. Plus I am spending the weekend at the girlfriend's... I think her computer may be getting a bittorrent client tonight...
Edit: Also, shitload of new tour dates on the website.
The Man has a branch office in each of our brains, his corporate emblem is a white albatross, each local rep has a cover known as the Ego, and their mission in this world is Bad Shit.
So interesting to see the range of music he's been into this year - everything from Iron & Wine and Porter Wagoner to Radiohead and Wilco. It's definitely reflected in the new disc, I think.
The Iron & Wine disc is right up there at the top of the year for me too. I was really glad to see Patterson call it out. Wasn't fond of it the first time through, but as Patterson points out, it grows on my everytime I listen to it.
I was checking out his tourdates (Iron & Wine) and he may be putting the DBT to the test for touring, he's got a European tour that goes from Jan 14th - Jan 30th without a night off.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.
On first listen this is without a doubt much better than the last record, and I liked the last record.
Could be even better than that, but I need to live with it for awhile.

This is their White Album or their No Code. Lots of sounds, lots of stuff going on, doesn't seem like it would be cohesive but it is. Not a throwaway song at all.
You can really hear the influence of the Dirt Underneath, which really makes me curious about how this is going to sound live, since they have made it pretty clear that the acoustic thing is done.

Oh, I know - The Shepherd's Dog was one of my favorites this year, too. I was a bit disappointed in it live, though - I saw them at Pitchfork and at a midsize club here, and both times it was too noisy to really appreciate the nuances in the new songs. I wish Sam Beam & Co. would play a seated theater show here sometime...
sadprofessor, I'm super jealous of you and your torrent But I'm going to wait patiently for January 22nd...

I caught them a few weeks ago, and it was seated. I'd say most people would have rather it was standing room only, given the mostly band-centric approach to the songs. However, you were really able to enjoy it this way given Sams singing style. I would have loved a few more acoustic songs from just Sam. He closed out with a great version of Jezebel.

I've been there twice ('86 and '88). Rumor has it that Dolly sometimes dons a wig and mingles among the guests.
Enjoying the EP.
It's a good day to be a Truckers fan.

Never did the Dollywood thing.....that side of the National Park is a little too built-up and crowded for my tastes. If we go to the mountains, it's for the national park, not the "attractions." Once I had to do Dolly's "Dixie Stampede" dinner theater...what a rip-off.

Oddly enough, my first Pearl Jam show was in Knoxville. We got there the night before, so we decided to drive into Pigeon Forge before the show.
This was Labor Day weekend. It took us 1 hour to drive 3 miles.
