I'm a fan of a regionally popular band with a devout "rail gang" adjacent group. They would also say they're an inclusive bunch (just as long as you're not in front of them). The behavior is off-putting to the common fan. That band has gotten very good at making their cringes look like smiles. I can't speak for Pearl Jam's personal thoughts, so I won't. But...
You won’t speak for the band. But you’ll imply it.
And use other non- Pearl Jam band rail communities as evidence.
But when someone implies the band seems quite happy with some of the regulars they see up front - going so far as to comment on it at shows. Well, they’re just being nice.
You don’t actually expect these whiners to listen to reason, right?

No, there are vague posts with one sided stories about something that may or may not have happened and are being attributed to this group of people unfairly.
I told my example of the Seattle line where two people showed up two days early but wanted to sleep in their hotel room. The people in line said that’s not cool you can’t do that and an argument ensued because their reasoning was “you all sleep in hotels anyway”. They actually did stay in line and probably didn’t actually sleep there but to prevent any further altercations no one said anything and just let them be.
All those people need to do is show up in this thread and say the people in line bullied them and made their experience awful and it will be taken as gospel by everyone here who wants to believe in the narrative of a rail mafia.
The way that group talked to those two people was sad and pathetic. They are hypocrites. End of story.
That very same show in Seattle one of the railriders snuck in without a ticket and cut in front of bunch of people. You know who I mean. Everyone cheered him on in your group. Not one person said go back to the line or that was not fair.

Why are you acting like it never happens? Maybe you’re not the one doing it but it absolutely happens. I mentioned a few pages back that my one time in GA when I joined my ticket buddy who was in line all day, I was told by someone a couple back that if I end up on the rail and he doesn’t there’s going to be a problem. It was clear he was with a larger group and had a mob mentality.
Don’t speak in absolutes like it never, ever happens. It does.
So you showed up and budded in line in front of people who had been there all day? You don’t see THAT as the problem?
Now who’s entitled?
It’s not a problem, because it wasn’t an issue for the 10 other people that did it in front of me that were part of the group who obviously were looking out for each other. The funny thing is, I wouldn’t have showed up early if I wasn’t the one with the tickets and I ended up standing back about 10 rows so there was no need for the hostility. Rail hunters and merch chasers just bring out the worst in people.
Im not saying the people who line up are entitled, that’s great if you want to camp for days, f5 for months and hustle for tickets, good on you. But don’t be a dick about it if there is someone in front of you when you feel you deserve it because you’re part of a clique.

I know who you are and I'm not disputing your experience. I and many others have had different experiences at different times/places. Is it the majority? No. But, it does happen and has been ugly at times.
I appreciate that. All I’m after here is if we can separate the people who caused these bad experiences (I’m not referring to anyone or anything specific) from the really great group of people who do GA. Why can’t we say Person X did this rather than The People Who Are Always Up Front did this. I know a lot of regular GA people are reading this and not commenting because it’s obviously futile but if there’s some systemic problem I obviously missed at the 18 shows I attended I would love to help fix it because I want everyone else to have an amazing time doing the thing we all love.

I don’t think it’s a good idea for anyone to use someone’s name here even if they behaved poorly. Certainly there are very polite and respectful people who line up and I assume you are one of them. No one is referring to you.

Remember when 10C decided to stop with assigning the best seats to senior members? They went to the 1&2 and 8&9 rows to be randomly selected that was a cool thing no? And then they completely did away with seats and implemented GA for all shows up front with a cordoned off section, well I’ve been watching videos of these past shows here in the states and it’s clear that there’s a group of fans that somehow manage to get GA to most of the shows including that big dude Ed pointed out in Philadelphia! Yes. If you were there as you say you were you know exactly what I am talking about.
You were in the ga line? No. Never have been. Right?
Yes I was.
Are you denying this happened? Everyone in the line saw it happen as he skipped down the stairs hi fiving people cutting the line. Why are you acting like it didn't? This is just one small example over dozens that I have seen over the years.
I have no issues with people hustling/f5ing/finding trades to get into GA as many times as they want. That’s totally fine. I would just like to see a random number draw to mix up the very front. I see a lot of people sharing how much better the rail or being right up front is so why not spread the wealth out for everyone if it’s that great?
I said in a previous post what a lottery can turn into. Every show I go to there is someone in the GA line who has never done it before. During tours there’s posts on fb to the effect of: “won GA, it’s been a dream to be on the rail what do I have to do”. Literally in this thread 15 posts up Amantria said they want to do it someday.
If they implement a lottery, you most likely will never know what this feels like. You won tickets to your home town show, spouse is ready to watch the kids, it’s over a weekend, you want the rail that one time in your life? Sorry. There’s a lottery, hope you win and your number is lower than 40. And let’s be serious here, for the rail you don’t need to camp overnight. As I said previously there is usually less than 10 people who go to EVERY show. Get there before them or even after and you’re still going to have an insane spot and everyone here will think you’re part of the rail mafia cause no one but them is allowed to be that close.
I like that the rail is full of people who want it bad enough to figure this out. People have kids, jobs, and responsibilities like everyone else. I have a medical condition that requires me to take medication every day. Having any of these things shouldn’t preclude you from being able to be somewhere else for 12-48 hours depending on where on the rail you’re aiming for. It seems like what is happening is a vocal minority want to be on the rail but don’t want to inconvenience themselves to do it, so you want to blow the whole thing up and make it random just so the people who can aren’t able to anymore.
If it’s really only 10 people then why are we continuing a process that benefits just those 10 people to the detriment of the other 1,000 people in GA?

There have been numerous posts on this thread with first hand knowledge of shenanigans. I've experienced it as well. Keep trying.

I guess the flipside of not allowing people to line up is that people buy their way to the front, then you have some really bad crowd interaction from the front of the stage, that also seems like a terrible idea from the bands perspective. I’m not sure there is a perfect system, and I think any system can be gamed. It’s pretty easy to find 10 club GA Because they forced you to buy two at a time. This is a reason that many tickets are being offloaded to people who didn’t have to win a lottery, but can still get to the front of the line. I purchased a ticket from someone and got 10 club GA without ever winning the lottery, it’s really not very hard.

as long as they're getting GA fair and square, I am not bothered. It takes time and effort for these people who do it every show. Time and effort that i am not willing to put in
This is the question.
As someone in that group I can assure you that we all spend as much or more time refreshing TM as anyone.
Are you telling me there is no bracelet sharing or sneaking people in going on? Seriously lol.
We’re walked in single file before general doors and scanned individually. How are we going to bracelet share?
Trust me, bracelet sharing is a real thing and it's VERY easy to do. No one checks for bracelets once you're in.
Current process is fine. I just think it is a little odd and/or selfish to do rail 15 times on a tour. 3-4 times is fine, but let other people have those spots without having to waste a day of their life competing every time.
