First of all, thank you to everyone who’s come to see our shows. We’re in the homestretch of this year‘s tour and it’s been a real pleasure. Fantastic cities and fantastic audiences. We’ve had a great time playing for you.
One thing we feel obliged to explain:
When we go on tour, the whole point of it for the band is that we are playing to a different audience every night.
That’s why we go on tour!
So if we’re in Edinburgh (like we are tonight), we look forward to seeing local faces.
This is what makes it new for us every night.
We appreciate those of you who follow us and buy tickets for multiple nights, so please don’t be offended if we request you to move out of the front row.
All we are asking is that you give the local fans a chance. This is what keeps it new for us…especially after being on tour for so many months.
See you later !

Imagine waiting all night and Ed asks you to move back. I'd be ticked off!
would be better to rope off part of the rail for band to designate.. but yes I would not be happy.... Do the random line thing if you want new faces.. But Ed does honor those that put in the effort...
Maybe they can’t tell who is local, but by the sounds of the note they can certainly tell who are the regulars up front. So know they know they can’t be pissed if they were asked to move back.

It’s a fairly bold request. If the locals show up late, take a hike and make room

Cities with multiple shows could have ga one night and seats the other night in order to mix it up. Rail riders are happy and people with low fan club numbers are happy.
I remember being at the Albany show in 2006...a fantastic show in my humble opinion. Ed at some point was jokingly talking to the rail people, something about "the same fucking people every night" lol. I did hear that later on that tour they did a switch up with the from row people? Anyone can confirm?

Totally underrated show. One of the best of 2006.
Rats! Satan's Bed! Red Mosquito! Also i'm pretty sure there were weird green lasers at that show lol

If locals and security all got along They'd probably gun me down by the end of this song Seem like the whole show go against me Every time I'm down the front, I hear Yawk! Yawk! Yawk!

And a nice, low hassle venue, not too big. My favorite of 2006. I think they did do some switching up when the entire floor was seated. I do not remember when though.

Grand Rapids was a switch up, though not confirmed it was done on purpose. Regardless, people with high numbers got good seats and people who typically would get the best seats were pushed back quite a bit. It ended up being one of the best shows of the tour.
"What can you expect when you're on top? You know? It's like Napoleon. When he was the king, you know, people were just constantly trying to conquer him, you know, in the Roman Empire. So, it's history repeating itself all over again."

I think the band (or some of the band) feels the same, but don't want to hurt feelings of people who put in way more time & money than I do.
Chrissie was very eloquent here, and I could see the band making a similar statement at some point.
I think overall, we'd all benefit from changing things up to keep the rail fresh & give some people a chance ro be there who normally wouldn't get it.

So as long as people are doing it the right way....staying in line mostly (obviously allowed to leave in shifts to grab food/drink/go to the restroom), then more power to them. And about getting tickets and trading etc, they have worked for a lot of years to cultivate a group to help. It's pretty awesome really.
My daughter decided day of St. Paul 1 when we woke up that she wanted to wait in line...we were not prepared but we did so anyhow. I stayed in line and let her go off a few times (it was hot as hell). We were not going to be rail, were like 2nd row when we made it in. People around us were all so nice, even let us both leave for food at 1 time (in reality the line behind us was very small anyhow, no effect if we had to move to the back ). But regardless, people were awesome in line and my daughter loved the experience.
In life, while there are some hacks/cheats, most of the time you get what you put in. It seems that most of the time the people that get rail or close at PJ concerts have really put in the work to do it. I will say, that during the concert, because of the age of the participants and the effort it takes all day to get into the building.....the energy is sometimes lacking at the front...

This. While there is some gaming/manipulation going on, in general, those folks are friends and spend a ton of time sitting around and waiting or the rail. Power to them. They work for something they want. I have no issue with it. Although I do have an issue with people cutting in line and saving places. The same thing used to happen back in the day when we slept out for tickets, at 8am there would be more people ahead of you. What can you do? Call the line Police? For better or worse, it is really unenforceable. Selfish people suck.

"Uh, that wasn't me. It was someone who looked like me. I have a twin."
"No, it was definitely you."
"No it wasn't."
Seems like kind of a half baked plan. If you want to do that, have assigned seats and sell the first row at the box office only.
