and another thing. not sure where to put this so it is going here.
another thing. why does schumer always refer to republicans as his "friends across the aisle"? does he not know that those people are not his friends? the republicans will shit on democrats all day on twitter and fox news, and schumer still calls them his friends. getting shit on all day and then calling those people your friends makes you look weak. we do not need weakness from the senate majority leader at this time.
maybe those people were his friends 30 years ago. but not today. it is a different world today and biden and schumer are acting like it is not.
A couple of things, government, however you define it and at whatever level, is by nature and throughout this nation’s history, behind the public on most major issues. It’s by design to be deliberative versus radical.
”My good friends across the aisle,” is senate decorum. The senate, with its 6 year terms and more deliberative debate style and the way they operate is what makes it more chummy. They represent their whole state, there’s only two of them and thus, it equalizes and levels the playing field. As opposed to the shit show that’s the house. Also by design. It’s where cooler heads prevail and deals can be struck. It’s the more “civil” body politic.
Fuck Manchurian Joe and Sinenema. Strip them of their committee assignments and let them be the repubs they are. And cut federal spending in their states, relocate fed offices, etc. until they play ball.
You're nuts. Democrats won Arizona. That's what Trump or DeSantis would do.

Nuts? Totally “normal”
Another stellar contribution to the discussion.
umm, Arizona and West Virginny were a combined 16 votes, with West Virginny’s 5 going to POOTWH. Brandon would have won without Arizona’s 11 in an election held two years ago. Further, I don’t recall either Manchurian Joe or Simenema hitting the stump hard for Brandon, never mind Manchurian Joe delivering West Virginny, a typical benchmark to withhold support to get your way or stop the POTUS, who was elected with more popular and electoral votes, thus having a mandate to spend, gee, where have I heard that before?, so if you’re argument is centred on electoral votes from two years ago, and that’s what POOTWH does, and repub leadership does and why they’re controlling everything, it’s a weak one. Normal is so overrated and I hate to break it to everyone, it ain’t going back to “normal.”

”Normal.” FFS, is what is wrong with the dems.
So even though Sen. Mark Kelly continues to caucus and vote with Democrats consistently, you advocate punishing the whole state of AZ for the perceived political malpractice of the other AZ senator. Makes no sense. Are you trying to guarantee that neither of them are re-elected?

You bring Mark Kelly into it and he also pressures Sinenema. She’s got to have her pet projects that she cares about. Maybe propose a highway near her house or family property? Take her off key committees and elevate Sen. Kelly. Doesn’t have to be zero sum. Right now, Brandon is getting all the blame. Forcing those two faux Dems to switch parties or get them to play nice either shifts the blame to repubs or they play nice and shit gets done.

Do you think Moscow Mitchy Baby and House repub leadership tolerate dissension in their ranks? Do you think if it’s major legislation or a vote of great import and a repub is wavering on a close vote, that pressure is not brought to bear? What form do you think that pressure takes? Jon Tester is the senator from my home state. Getting elected there as a democrat is like threading a needle. He votes with the dems more often but he’s not exactly progressive. I give him a pass and any democrat from West Virginia as it’s just as hard to get elected in the first place there as well.
it could be way worse and California only gets 2 senators. Where do you get the rest of these senators from?
You can punish Romney if you are a Republican for being moderate, and if it hurts him a more conservative senator from Utah gets elected in his place. You have leverage in one case and no leverage in the other.
and another thing. not sure where to put this so it is going here.
another thing. why does schumer always refer to republicans as his "friends across the aisle"? does he not know that those people are not his friends? the republicans will shit on democrats all day on twitter and fox news, and schumer still calls them his friends. getting shit on all day and then calling those people your friends makes you look weak. we do not need weakness from the senate majority leader at this time.
maybe those people were his friends 30 years ago. but not today. it is a different world today and biden and schumer are acting like it is not.
Where or how do you see this ending? November and lameduckedness for Brandon is 3 months away.
It's a big difference to punish Sinema through committees vs defunding a state, removing federal contracts, etc.
Do you think Moscow Mitchy Baby and House repub leadership tolerate dissension in their ranks? Do you think if it’s major legislation or a vote of great import and a repub is wavering on a close vote, that pressure is not brought to bear? What form do you think that pressure takes? I bet Schumer hasn’t even whispered a threat. He’s of normal mind.
Did McConnell punish McCain when he voted with the D's on Obamacare? That was fairly consequential.
You’re comparing McCain to Sinenema and Manchurian Joe? McCain would have throttled Moscow Mitchy Baby. Not even a close comparison, particularly a freshman Senator to a seasoned veteran and former POTUS candidate. And are you sure he hadn’t been threatened? Over a quiet lunch in the leader’s private dining room?
Jon Tester is the senator from my home state. Getting elected there as a democrat is like threading a needle. He votes with the dems more often but he’s not exactly progressive. I give him a pass and any democrat from West Virginia.
it could be way worse and California only gets 2 senators. Where do you get the rest of these senators from?
The two we’re discussing haven’t done the Dems shit for 2 years and in 3 months, it’ll be way too late. I hope you look forward to 2 more years of Brandon being a lame duck and no dem agenda being put forth. Jon Tester doesn’t grand stand against BBB and would likely work with leadership to resolve differences to support it. And still get re-elected. He’s a dem.

You said Mitch would punish senators that are out of line. I just gave you an example and you said that's not a good example. I'm sure I can find some Romney examples, some Murkowski ones as well.
Which vote are you referring? McCain’s thumbs down on repeal? Maybe he traded that for supporting his vote to eliminate the mandate and pay a penalty so Mitchy’s tax policy could pass?
How would you punish a senator with terminal cancer?

You would risk losing Sinema, Manchin, Kelly, Tester seats to the GOP? That probably would swing the senate next time their terms are up. It’s probably also cost Dems the two Georgia senators.
So six more Ted Cruz missiles are better? I get the anger in this brand new six three world, but one thing independents really hate is party infighting (all we need to do is read some regular posters on here for that). Without independents voting dem in these six senate elections, the gop runs the senate long term.

I’m no putting Tester and Kelly in those positions or considering them as targets for punishment. I’m singling out the two faux Dems because they’re grandstanding and aren’t being serious. And they’re not paying a price for it. You know what indies hate more than party infighting? Nothing getting done. And who gets blamed and pays the price? Dems, why? Because they can’t leverage they’re own majority when they have one, as slim as it it.

To which he voted down but then voted to gut a key enforcement/compliance measure so Moscow Mitchy Baby’s tax cuts for the wealthy would get the offset funding snd enough votes to pass. I believe it took Dems in 2018 to restore the funding.
I hope no one is holding out hope for dem control of either house in 3 months?
I’d give them a realistic chance in the senate, with solid opportunities to flip PA and WI. In normal times they’d lose the house, but they need to argue it’s paramount people consider what type of country they want to live in after the maga insurrection (they REALLY need to start adding maga to that phrase).
SCOTUS today announced they will hear a case that would legalize the types of things trump tried to do before Jan 6 to overturn election results, and people barely care. Time for Dems to make that argument better. There is nothing more important than the insurrection with an overly powerful court with a history of pro GOP election decisions ready to help the next trump with a few more electoral votes.
Its time to make the argument to independents, if all you care about is the price of gas, all you are going to get is a constantly flip flopping country with no direction, other than a court that is solidly conservative enough to continue to shape the country in an extreme right wing direction. Do you want this Wild West of guns, with women in handcuffs and a maga armies invading congress? Time to forget the price of gas nonsensical arguments and make this election about reality. We’ll get that gas price down, no worries.
It sounds to me like what Bezos really wants to say is, "Mr President. don't ask the oil companies to stop gouging consumers. That would be to unusual for business as usual!"
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
It sounds to me like what Bezos really wants to say is, "Mr President. don't ask the oil companies to stop gouging consumers. That would be to unusual for business as usual!"
Before oil cos pay taxes, that’s about 9 percent profit on the price of gas. It’s something, but gas would still be sky high expensive. Grandstanding by both of them . If we were Saudi, we’d at least be getting free education and healthcare plus a not so small stipend from energy, but in a capitalist society, we get to see the wealthy corporations get wealthier.
Not sure why Americans can’t see the different systems for what they are. If you are creative and make a billion, so be it. But if you are providing an essential like energy, it sounds like gouging.
So if the anger is at folks like Bezos who benefited beyond their wildest dreams from the system, why is that anger misplaced?

I agree. This is just part of the hypocritical relationship with capitalism.

I agree. This is just part of the hypocritical relationship with capitalism.
coming from someone who founded and heads what has become a behemoth that seems to have a dictatorial relationship with its "partner" vendors selling on his site, I'd rather he keep his opinion to himself.

Valid, but my point is that if it weren't Bezos, there would be another person behind another behemoth - because that's what capitalism tends to permit and produce. We tend to flout capitalism like some sort of system that 'occasionally' produces these realities. Then, when a company becomes 'indispensable' (i.e. part of day to day life), we condemn the collection of wealth and talk about some implicit responsibility back to society of low prices. To me, it seems a flawed assumption to make that that transaction would be bidirectional and/or proportional.

hmm, but when its fossil fuel energy, theres HUGE pushback to alternative forms and protective measures taken by Gov entities, not to mention the subsidies and the like all for THEIR and their shareholders profit. Deliberate restricting of supply to increase profit for shareholders and themselves , I take exception to.

Bezos manipulated the system to create a near monopoly for himself, but let's say that's distinct from my point. Regarding essentials like energy, capitalism creates a system that promotes and rewards gouging, and its disgusting to see a billionaire who also rigs the system for self benefit, complaining.

How did he manipulate the system and how is it a monopoly? You can't shop in a store? You can't go to walmart.com which carries products in exactly the same way as Amazon? His 'monopoly' was created because he was faster to market and had a better product than the others. Anyone can compete. There's not some crazy barrier to market that the other players can't breach.

umm, Arizona and West Virginny were a combined 16 votes, with West Virginny’s 5 going to POOTWH.
”Normal.” FFS, is what is wrong with the dems.

it could be way worse and California only gets 2 senators. Where do you get the rest of these senators from?

So six more Ted Cruz missiles are better? I get the anger in this brand new six three world, but one thing independents really hate is party infighting (all we need to do is read some regular posters on here for that). Without independents voting dem in these six senate elections, the gop runs the senate long term.
”Normal” ain’t walking through that door.
