Pretty sure the comfort question was asked and answered.  Not sure why being antagonistic has to remain a part of your posts.  Let it go.

Shit is awful for so many.

    Who follows CA, today?

In the age of false flag trump it was very infuriating reading those posts here the past 36 hours. Especially because my life and death is contingent on you and everyone else being smart and intelligent.

Especially as I was sitting for the last four days in one of the top ICUs in the Northeast, speaking with top doctors about the current healthcare situation. Especially how I was quarantined for nearly 40 hours due to one similar symptom of a family member. Zero room for misdiagnosis in these troubled times. We for the most part knew our family health issue was a virus other than covid, still scary as shit? The tests take days to be certain of accuracy. Currently everyone healthy.

Especially reading how one long time poster was comforted because while walking their dog or something like that a doctor they know told them this is overblown. ID specialist completely updated? Who the FMe knows. And another long time poster was comforted by living in a Logan’s Run horror movie. Glad for that.

    Make more sense now?

Anyone else following Germany's low fatality rate with the virus? Why is it so much more different than the rest of the world? Some thoughts are the younger demographic were the first ones to be hit with the virus and that number is going to spike very soon with the older population being in contact with it now. The other thought is this is actually closer to the true fatality rate to the virus. Germany is testing more people than any other country in the world and more people that have mild symptoms are getting factored into the equation than anywheres else. Hopefully these numbers can stay low than what we are seeing in Italy (older population) and Spain.

We ask ourselves the same question. Our health system is good, but is it really that good? If you care to translate, here are a few explanations:
    https://www.spiegel.de/wissenschaft/medizin/coronavirus-warum-ist-die-todesrate-in-deutschland-niedriger-als-in-anderen-laendern-a-2bb61605-c72d-41b3-8d75-a51c3ee2e5fd

in short: there are a few factors:
    1. same as South Korea we test a lot so find a lot of mild cases as well
    2. age demographics (Italy has one of the oldest population in Europe)
    3. luck/caution: Look at Seattle where they had an outbreak in an old people’s home
    4. it’s still early so our rate could rise significantly at any time, especially when the system is starting to get overwhelmed

Read the author's own conclusion out loud and tell me this makes sense to you:

It definitely makes sense to me.  You disagree with the author's conclusion?

The remarks from U.S. Sen. Richard Burr were more stark than any he had delivered in more public forums.

On Feb. 27, when the United States had 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19, President Trump was tamping down fears and suggesting that the virus could be seasonal.

"It's going to disappear. One day, it's like a miracle. It will disappear," the president said then, before adding, "it could get worse before it gets better. It could maybe go away. We'll see what happens."

Immoral for sure. Infuriating for sure. And it looks illegal as hell. I wonder how many other Senators were in that briefing. A second senator was found to have done the same thing. Can't remember her name. Also an R.

Sweden isn't either (except for 16-19 year old schools and universites)

I am happy for any politician who do not fall for public pressure or do things because of political reasons.

    ***

Police are preparing for 50 percent staff absenteeism due to the virus. Now National Commander-in-Chief Per Engström is appealing to politicians not to close primary and pre-primary schools. He tells DN that it would affect many in the community and mentions the entire legal chain with police, prosecutors, judges and lawyers.

    - Who are socially important and not? We depend on each other in a complicated way. Many of these things do not appear until the action has been initiated and it is already too late. Prison services must continue to receive the people we arrest and prosecutors must continue to make decisions, otherwise we may need to release people, he tells the newspaper.

    ***

infectious disease physicians] Jonas Ahl believes that Sweden has so far made the right corona decision.

Incredibly worthwhile if half the population becomes immune

    - It is incredibly tough for the Public Health Authority to stand up. The politician-driven decisions that we see in other countries I feel are partly populist and not based on facts. Our Swedish politicians have been brave here and leaned against the expertise, he says.

    - The pressure on them to act is great, but it is probably wise to act more sensibly. In a free society we cannot keep the cases to zero because then we have to weld the doors of people like they did in China and our society does not work. We must focus on protecting the old.

The infectious doctor believes it is good if Sweden's young population can gain some immunity while the old ones protect themselves. For the virus will remain forever.

    - If schools close now, what happens when they open again? Should we close the community again this fall? It is incredibly worthwhile if half the population is immune to the fall.

I shared my experience, and I’m petty and small, for responding to inaccurate and dangerous attacks yesterday while I was sitting in an ICU while under quarantine after waiting what I was told was on a covid 72  hour waiting period for double checking as mandated by the regional experts, luckily they shortened it to 40 hours due to partial test results and reduced symptoms . Dude that comment is offensive. That was ME, Not my neighbors sister FFS.

Our stupid fuck of a PM refuses to shut down schools. Why should teachers and their families have to be put at risk?

The corona virus certainly poses a danger to the health of many, but probably not nearly as many other causes of death. However, the corona virus is dangerous to the world.

People who are normally perceived as wise will completely lose their position and demand that society be shut down. Theyare listened to -- Borders are closed, industries, universities, schools are closed, the economy is collapsing, people are losing their jobs, their savings, their faith in the future.

There is talk of "war against the virus" and one calls and wants "strong leaders". This was achieved in the 1930s when the economy was allowed to crash. Then there were wars with 55-60 million (most young) dead.

Politicians, other leaders and the media: Capture your reason! Explain calmly that we are coping with the epidemic.

It is good that the elderly are isolated to protect them and reduce the burden on health care. But for most people, life can go on as usual, if you follow the Public Health Authority's advice on hand hygiene, distance to others and staying home at the slightest cold symptoms.

But if you are healthy you can go to work, go to school, go to a restaurant (though, not sit to close to others if possible), work out, take walks and shop for business (clothes, shoes, furniture, food…).

If we live almost as usual, companies do not have to close, bankruptcies and unemployment are halted, the stock market turns upwards and everyone gets happy. Stop the corona hysteria before it, not the virus, crushes society!

YOU are attacking one of our best members in petty and small little jabs and we are trying to show you why you shouldn't be.
I hope all goes well with you and your family and you come to realize that we are all in this together and we are all taking comfort where we can.  I'm taking comfort from the low mortality rate among little children like my 4 year old son, who happens to have COPD.
If someone sees that as offensive to the (relatively) few children who have suffered horribly, that is their choice, but most of us think it is the wrong point of view to hold.

Again, good luck and be well, and let's all move on from this together!

    No, still doesn't make sense.
It's never a good time to be petty and small, during a crisis is certainly no exception.

McG’s NEIGHBOR had an issue... omg you okay friend? Love you man. As long as we love only our friends we’ll be ok, got it.

online forums are insane. Asymptomatic disease is dangerous in an environment of overconfidence. That was my message and I get attacked here. Nice fan club.

I'm good bud, taking it day by day.  stay well my friend.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

I get where your coming from, but your anger is misdirected going after an individual poster you know nothing about. You got it completely wrong with your comfort rants.

    So knock it off.

you are still personally attacking someone who was at ground zero of this pandemic this week. Message received.

Nobody wants to attack you, we are all rooting for you and your family.

    Fuckin' A.

    +1
    Be well, Lerx.

Thanks all. Still need to keep a close eye on my kid. But we are all in much improved health. Very grateful.

    ^fuck the National Review
what do you disagree with in that article?
Read the author's own conclusion out loud and tell me this makes sense to you:

"There should be permanent closure of the wet markets, given the government’s obvious inability or unwillingness to regulate them."
It definitely makes sense to me.  You disagree with the author's conclusion?
let's take a step back and digest this

if the gov't is unable to unwilling to shut down wet-markets....who does she think is going to make this happen?  What is going to replace them?

Maybe a little more nuanced reference instead of the fear-mongering, racist National Review next time:
    https://www.latimes.com/food/story/2020-03-11/coronavirus-china-wet-markets

"...this is a wildlife regulation problem, not a wet market problem. Not that long ago, chickens in wet markets were sold live, killed on the spot. Avian flu and the subsequent wholesale elimination of live chickens from wet markets is proof that the country has the regulatory power and ability to execute urgent health policy when it needs to. Exotic meat does not need to be regulated out of existence, as a bill passed in China’s legislature on Feb. 24 promised, but needs a more nuanced and comprehensive approach. A blanket ban will only push it underground. Education, regulation, a supervised farm network and explicitly legal channels for consumers are all needed to counter the existing gray market.

China’s wet markets are more vital and in need now than ever, for its eaters, its children and the fraying social fabric of a country grappling with the world’s largest wave of urbanization."

Our stupid fuck of a PM refuses to shut down schools. Why should teachers and their families have to be put at risk?
Sweden's Public Health Authority has today decided to still keep schools open,

    because

    - the effects of having them closed have shown to be at most marginal, so far.

    and

    - it would be a huge strain on society and the health care system if people are not able to go to work because of children being kept at home

    and

    - people should avoid after skis this upcoming weekend.

That was my thought. We’re some of our first hit nursing homes? So ours are going to be higher.
we really won’t have good data per country until deaths are in the thousands. Not saying I want that, but one little pocket of an outbreak in the wrong place will skew any data.

Sweden has 10 million people and 85% of them live in villages with 200 or fewer people.  California is a little smaller and has 4x as many people.
No offense, but there really isn't any sense in comparing Sweden to...anything.

California issues stay at home order. Still allowed to leave home to get food, medicines, walk dog, exercise, see doctor, etc. Newsome leaving plenty of options for comfort.

California is projecting TWENTY TWO MILLION WILL BE INFECTED IN JUST THEIR STATE.

Like Muhammad hits the truth ((Literally just came on random all songs shuffle, not even listening to PJ)

Anyone have the California fatality projection on that? Hundreds of thousands, just in California

and young adults can die a painful death from this. I’ll find that article and link.
I’ve heard fatality rates from .7 to 4%. The .7% seems most accurate to me, that number came from South Korea where they tested more. Many countries most likely have countless unknown cases. .7% of 22 million is still over 150,000 though.
But that doesn’t seem right, I’ve heard many times to expect about 20% to get infected if that gets out of hand. 22 million is over half the state. Whoever came up with these figure is probably trying to scare people into a quarantine or something. Using the number I see accepted most places you’d still get 8 million infected and 56,000 dead. That’s still a staggering number, no need to inflate that.
