Among 39 new cases, 16 are in Broward and 5 are in Miami-Dade

Remind me again, how many electoral votes does Florida get?

What population is disproportionately affected by Coronavirus?

Damn talk about a dangerous situation how can it not spread!

Talk about the administration ordering illegal mass gatherings of a high risk group - international travelers.

It’s a difficult situation to manage. But they should have been able to figure something out in advance to keep families at  least 3 feet apart from other travel groups

They should be busing some of them off plane on tarmac and process a bunch at a time but heck I’m not expert!

A little science for anyone who follows conspiracy theories on the origin of COVID-19 (although I seriously doubt anyone hear believes that nonsense):

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in people and many different species of animals, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can infect people and then spread between people such as with MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV, and now with this new virus (named SARS-CoV-2).

The SARS-CoV-2 virus is a betacoronavirus, like MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV.  All three of these viruses have their origins in bats. The sequences from U.S. patients are similar to the one that China initially posted, suggesting a likely single, recent emergence of this virus from an animal reservoir.

Early on, many of the patients at the epicenter of the outbreak in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China had some link to a large seafood and live animal market, suggesting animal-to-person spread. Later, a growing number of patients reportedly did not have exposure to animal markets, indicating person-to-person spread. Person-to-person spread was subsequently reported outside Hubei and in countries outside China, including in the United States. Some international destinations now have ongoing community spread with the virus that causes COVID-19, as do some parts of the United States. Community spread means some people have been infected and it is not known how or where they became exposed. Learn what is known about the spread of this newly emerged coronaviruses.

Yes at the very least they should have added up all the incoming passengers, calculated their max load/ processing per hour and have somewhere safe for them to wait.

Like our pal Andrew Yang says, it’s all in the MATH.

Geez. Awful. A lot of people seem to be taking this lightly until it hits home like that. Not surprised many have the “it won’t happen to me” mindset or “I’m young and healthy so I’m safe.” I heard local bars were slammed yesterday for St Patrick’s Day. I think the most responsible and generous thing everyone can do is stay away from others as much as possible. Doesn’t matter if you’re young and healthy. The person you can give it to may not be. The whole thing blows, but it’s the harsh reality we’re faced with.

Drove past the a couple shopping malls and other retail areas earlier. Parking lots were packed with cars. Guess staying home for a few days is just too much for some people.

took my family to a nature preserve for a nice walk instead. Nobody else was there.

I totally agree, b.  I'm trying hard to convince my wife to shut down the bookstore for awhile.  I'm working as few hours as possible myself.  I have to go in for a few hours this afternoon but will keep my distance from others as much as I can and then no work until Wednesday- or maybe not, if I can convince my wife and her business partner that it's not worth the risk.  Tough decisions to be made these days!

My phrasing could have been better, but there is significant difference between going to a large, urban mall or shopping center and a 1,000+ acre, outdoor woodland area where the only potential congregation area is a 10 car parking lot.  That whole social distancing thing.

Grocery store is practically a ghost town here. Plenty of everything. Way to go neighborhood, lol. The cashier said it was busier in the morning, but nothing got cleaned out. I guess the panic buyers got it out of their systems.

Ohio Governor Dewine has declared a partial shutdown of all bars and restaurants.  Take-out and delivery not prohibited, but dine-in service will no longer be allowed.
