This song is legitimately incredible. Moody and energized. Great instrumentation. Great vocal melodies and lyrics by Ed.

I’ve listened to it a couple times, and I really have to say I do love the track. I love the spaciness, it really takes me on a journey. Without examining the lyrics too much yet, I really love the music, the melody, the way everyone works so well together. I’d be the first one to admit that my favorite PJ material is the first few albums, the first time I heard the grunge movement really explode from a young age really had a profound effect on me; but I’m not critical of much of their stuff, not much I don’t like. I respect the fact that artists have the right to create whatever they please, and I can certainly get behind this, even when it doesn’t sound like vintage PJ. I might get heat for saying this, but that guitar almost reminds me of something I’d expect to hear on a modern RHCP track. Really funky. I love it.

Hate the drums and that it sounds like one guitar through the whole song.
    Stone is playing bass.
Is Jeff playing synth then? Or did they make Boom?

The drums are really bad. It's like they took that 20 seconds of Can't Deny Me where the drums are all processed and no instruments, the worst part of the song, and made the drums for the whole song sound that bad. Matt will play it better live. On real drums, hopefully.
Matt is playing the drums on the single though.
Yes, Stone explained how Matt played the drums “dry” to sound like a drum machine. But he is playing live, other than an electronic high hat

They are going to go off on the end of this thing live. Think Rearviewmirror. Thats how powerful i see this ending being live
Yeah, quite a few spots where I could see them breaking out, it could be one that's a completely different animal live.

I've listened to it about half a dozen times now and really like it. As many here already said, nice change. I personally love New Wave, to this is right up my alley and I can totally see myself dancing away to this.

I can appreciate the adventurousness but it never really lifts off and then meanders horribly in the back half. It’s like somebody gave them a rough description of Radiohead’s late 90s evolution and they decided to write a song with that in mind.

I does get me more intrigued by the album.

Last two minutes were unbelievably good. Wow
That’s what I was thinking too. I love how they just rode out the ending. Let that groove go. I can’t believe this is the same band I’ve been listening to pretty much my entire life. Such a beautiful curveball. One thing that hasn’t changed: when I listened to the premier on the radio, I sat on the floor with my back against the stereo, just as I did at 12 years old listening to Vitalogy when it first came out. Now I’m listening with headphones on repeat, literally dancing in my living room. This band still fucking has me. Can’t wait for the record.

I’m absolutely loving the change of pace and experimental nature of the song. Hoping the album brings a lot more of this :)

It's 30 minutes later and I'm still playing this song on repeat. Really haven't been this amped for a new Pearl Jam single since Save You. I also agree with the sentiment that the end of this song could build into something super powerful live with Ed looping vocals and the rest of the band looping instrumental tracks until it's just a massive wall of awesomeness. Absolutely can't wait to hear more of this record and to hear this song live.

I fucking love this song. LOVE IT.

It's funny because I've been making an effort to listen to newer artists like Billie Eilish while also dusting off the hold Talking Heads, the Cure and David Bowie. I'd love this song even if I wasn't already inclined to love it. And I can imagine this being an absolute banger in concert.

Oh I'm sure it's him... love how it comes time for a fill and it's just snare. So not MFC.
Electronic high hat is what I don't like. EVERY pop and rap song and commercial has that tss tss tss tss bullshit sound on it the last two years. Hope it gets played on Matt's kit live. Otherwise we gonna have a Weezer Feels Like Summer instrument switcheroo for the new wave tune.

First listen, really liking it. Huge fan of the Talking Heads.

Verse to me is okay, but I love the chorus. I'm sure the verses will grow on me too with a few listens though

Yes to this - just when you feel the song is about to pick up, it pumps the brakes and slows right down.  Teaser. 7 when it could have been a 9.

Good song though.  Maybe they’ll have a little quartet of backup singers during the last 1:30 that will do the jazz hands.

It’s definitely different!  Has me VERY intrigued about the new record. This could be a huge change in PJ history.

Very talking heads/Bowie like. Moody, spacey and uh just different. I think I like it?  Or love it?  Wait maybe I’m gonna hate it?  I genuinely can’t tell yet

As a fan of the Talking Heads, David Bowie, Depeche Mode...I approve of this song! It sounded great on the car stereo, I have no issue with them trying different styles of music. Its catchy, booming, and exciting! Bring on the album!

Someone posted Sirius intro with Stone on YouTube. It’s pretty awesome. Started with Matt drum loop, then Stone adding bass. Jeff comes in later and adds keys. Mike comes in later adds guitar riff. Ed adds vocals and they put it all together. Matt went back and added real drums with exception of high hat loop.

These dude made a recording of the song including Stone's intro from SiriusXM, worth a watch if you didn't here the Stone part:

"Populated with every reject and cutthroat from Bombay to Calcutta. It's worse than Detroit."

Isn’t this how the Beatles recorded at the end?
