I think that ultimately I am glad they are trying something new.  Lighting Bolt was essentially a revised Backspacer style and so to have something sonically new, for PJ in 2020 means they are a band still interested in evolving which is a very good sign to me.  They can write Lighting Bolts and Backspacers the rest of their career if they felt like coasting in a comfort zone, an 80s New Wave song from a 90s grunge band takes balls
    AMEN!

If Stone’s on bass and Mike has the guitar part, does that free up Jeff for the synthesizer?

First impression - WOW!!  Multiple listens in and still processing but oh so different and refreshing.
Secretly hoped that Bill Simmons audio clip was not accurate but now I'm glad it wasn't.

Definitely strong possibility. Easy song to just keep playing and for Ed to add in improvs.

Yep, I took the best songs I liked from LB and BS and made it into a one album length playlist. Not a lot of variation the last 10 years.

Blowing my mind (in a good way) that after 30 years, they'd do something so experimental for them and I love it.

Totally agree. I’m hoping that the new album is not “here’s our new wave song, here’s a couple of Who rockers, here’s a ballad, here’s a spoken word thing etc.” which regardless of how much I love No Code is my gripe with that album as it sort of doesn’t really hang together in it’s entirety.

They’ve gone a particular way on the single and personally I’d love to hear them take this theme and just push it through all the tracks.

I like this song a lot. Talking Heads/Bowie/The Strokes type vibe. Glad they felt like they could experiment a little more this time around.

IMO this is the biggest shift/change/risk in sound they have taken since You Are on RA. Personally I f'ing love it. Just downloaded it off of Google Play. Listened to it 5 times now. If this is a harbinger of what's to come, I can't wait until 3/27!!!!

I dig this song. It's different, it's funky, it's risky. I love that they got out of their comfort zone. I'm so excited for the album!

I can appreciate the adventurousness but it never really lifts off and then meanders horribly in the back half. It’s like somebody gave them a rough description of Radiohead’s late 90s evolution and they decided to write a song with that in mind.

I does get me more intrigued by the album.

    I love it!

It actually reminded me a little bit of some old 80's R.E.M?

After Lightning Bolt, I really wanted something more experimental and weird like the stuff off of No Code and Binaural, and this is very different and still has some great hooks.

Over the last few albums I got tired of the albums borrowing too much from the Ramones and The Who, and I am happy to hear inspiration from The Talking Heads, R.E.M., etc.

It's great to hear something more Alternative and less Classic Rock from Pearl Jam.

3 listens now, and...I think it's amazing. The sounds are incredible, and they sound energized, fresh... and this level of risk from a band with a 25-plus-year career is so badass

I love Talking Heads so naturally I love this song. I like the experimentation. Glad to see them step outside their norm.
