    1) of course.
    2) GTFO of the middle east. But slowly. with a plan. not just leaving one day creating a vaccum for terrorists. he is single handedly going to create a new ISIS.
    3) of course, but that question requires context. do we simply employ more people at any cost to the environment? clean coal, anyone?
4)make harsher, MUCH harsher penalties for those that employ people of non-legal status. boom, there's your "wall".
but it's not about border security. it never has been. it's about him building a monumental structure that will be historically linked to him and his "leadership vision". he found a way to gain support for a nonsensical structure by way of whipping up racists and fearful idiots into a frenzy.

It's a vain pursuit for sure. And the symbolism hasn't been lost on anyone.

Will it have gold Ts on the Mexico facing side or those awful emblems like the one on the embassy in Jerusalem?

Mind-numbing (the laissez faire attitude towards this shmuck).

For the record... I don't anticipate the US going 'full Nazi' given the opposition and awareness the 'sky is falling people' demonstrate on a daily basis to keep people alert.

Now, on the other hand, if the US was comprised of a few more Cletuses (the real simple fools that struggle to tie their shoes) and redneck shitheads (the kind that hate anyone without freckles and blonde hair)... it would be interesting to see where this government might push the envelope.

Remember the debate a while back comparing Trump to other authoritarian dictators like Hitler and Stalin?

Making up a national emergency and holding an Oval Office address to the entire country is another dangerous  step in that direction.

I hope to god the big networks will fact check him live in the lower third and provide a detailed, honest discussion about the facts after he’s done talking.

It’s been scary. Now it is ratcheting up multiple notches...
    Agreed.

I was thinking about this today. I was wondering what neighbouring countries thought of Germany in its initial phases of fascism.

I know much of Europe and much of Germany initially thought Hitler and his cronies were a bit of a joke.

It it is incumbent upon current and future generations to understand how such events came to be. And, of course, it is paramount that people do everything they can so that history doesn’t repeat itself.

This is why gumbies that tell everyone to ‘relax’ and insist McDonald is ‘harmless’ while they support him kinda tick me off. It means one of two things: either (1) they are really stupid... or (2) they are callous and on board with the insanity.

Either of the two scenarios present people who just aren’t very great in my books.
You folks realize this thread has become the proverbial echo chamber that liberals love b/c of your crazy presumptions, idiotic links and refusal to actually listen to anyone that doesn't agree with you?

First - on Hitler comparisons - first - at "worst" you have to live with Trump as President for another 6 years. If he ever tries to do what Bloomberg did in NYC with term limits, then you can worry.  The Cult of Obama was/is no less in numbers than the Cult of Trump.

Second - on the relax - we survived Carter's Presidential incompetence that really almost sunk the country both financially and internationally, you'll be ok.  It's not meant to say that some (much?) of what Trump does sounds and is ridiculous. The point is - pay attention to what is ACTUALLY happening and not what you IMAGINE happening.  For example:

    1) Do you agree or disagree with Prison Reform?
    2)  Do you agree or disagree with a reduced military presence in the Middle East?
    3)  Do you agree or disagree with MORE people then ever having jobs, average salaries increasing and an increase workforce participation rate?

Trump's rhetoric is no different than Obama's other than he says it in a less politically correct way. I don't mean no different in that you don't agree with one and disagree with another.

Honestly, if Pelosi was smart, she'd give Trump a way out of the corner he's boxed himself into.  She's playing as much politics as he is. The difference is she says it with language that is more palatable and easier to understand to many.  But, that's paying attention to style over substance.  Substantively, they are putting their lines in the sand while posing that there's no middle ground. Now, what we need is grown ups on both sides to negotiate and come up with a compromise on illegal immigration. We've lost the common thread - I would think we all agree ILLEGAL immigration must stop. We don't agree with Trump's definition of that. It's a negotiating posture. Maybe, a poor one, but that's all it is. No different than Pelosi's - no wall stance.   I actually agree with Pelosi - a wall is silly. But, I don't reject the SUBSTANCE of what Trump is getting at- we must come up with a firm new policy on ILLEGAL immigration. The fact the left wants to wrap that in emotional stories is no less manipulative than what Trump is doing.  Funny thing is - compromise is something that Obama failed at and why many of his policies failed to get implemented. He wanted a rubber stamp from Congress (different METHOD, but same MADNESS as Trump), and they wouldn't give it to him - which is good for both Presidents - thus checks alive and well.   All or nothing on either side is not what this country is. We are moderates.  Compromise is critical.  And the Pendulum swings (so another on the relax- a Dem will be President again).

So, again - ignore the noise - debate the issue. So, one final agree/disagree -

    4)  Do you agree or disagree that we need to have a firm, effective policy on illegal immigration?

Now, Pelosi - what's your idea? Not allowed to punt it (As you are trying to do which is the politics as usual that got Trump (and Ocasio-Cortez) elected). You must answer with a clear, concise policy alternative to the wall.  C'mon - I know nobody's made you do this in years. Not comfortable?  Too bad.  Answer the question. What is your policy idea on illegal immigration reform?   Doesn't it bother you that her response does not include a sound policy alternative?

End.  Start blasting away with incorrect assumptions and ignore the actual substance of my soliloquy.
Now, that’s some revisionist history for you. Stock market and employment numbers mean everything and nothing else means anything. The rest? Simply dismissed and overlooked. Simple.

I hope nobody is planning on tuning into this speech tonight. I hope everyone remembers that low ratings will be the strongest message he can actually understand. I hope Netflix has the highest viewership in their history tonight during this stupid speech, lol.

I’ll probably watch it. Not sure though. I’d really rather here him speak than read it later.  Need to see just how delusional he is.  But I do understand your point about ratings.

You can watch it online after the fact. ;) Don't give him or the networks the satisfaction!

No offense, but these are yet more very weak, unstructured and flailing arguments.

1.From the very start, many of us here have stated we support stronger border security.  The Dems offered 25 billion for it last year along with DACA as a deal. He declined.  So your right wing talking point is not the 'gotcha' that you think it is.  The balking is about hte wall, which is nothing more than a marketing gimmick turned into political poison pill.

    2. Prison reform - great, jobs are still up - great.  None of this means Trump is a good president, because it's the whole of the presidency that moderates (like me) and liberals despise.  It's his position on treaties, allies, the environment, warming, immigration, TPP, trade, tariffs, that so outweighs those puny successes.  Throw in the rampant corruption, nepotism and immorality and there you have it.  It's pretty straightforward.

No one here is a simpleton.  No one is going to look at one issue where there is some agreement and declare themselves on the MAGA train when the rest of his agenda and character are despicable.

I'd say 'nice try', but it wasn't.

    interesting if true:

Big 3 broadcast networks will air primetime Trump address. Four years ago, they declined to air a primetime addres son immigration from Obama because it was too "overtly political".

that's because, like it or not, trump brings ratings.

I wouldn't read much into that. Obama gave like 30 total addresses. I think that was the only one not covered. And he wasn't intending on stating there was a national emergency or anything.

Trump was going to give one last year regarding tax cuts but they decided to not even ask for the time out of fear the networks would decline.

I will not be watching it, it pisses me off that he is fucking up my primetime tv viewing.  After the shows went into their Christmas break, I was looking for forward to my primetime tv shows returning...fuck this man.  Besides, I have only watched 1 primetime presidential bullshit speech in the last 30 years, and that was W after 911.
What's normally on at 9pm on a Wednesday? Dancing with the stars or something?
I thought he was on tonight.  Still would waste my time on the silliness known as watching a loser like trump.  Dancing with the stars would be better than him.

I actually NEVER watch Trump on TV. I specifically avoid his stupid "press conferences" and the state of the union, etc etc etc. It's not usually out of spite (tonight will be, but also because of my usual reason). It's out of the fact that I just can't fucking tolerate him. He is SO irritating and off-putting and ridiculous and disgusting and stupid, that I just can't take it. Even if I try to watch that shit, I have to turn it off within a couple of minutes. It is much more tolerable to just find out what idiotic shit he spewed later than to actually experience the madness. I just can't stand to have him invade my mind that directly.
