Last time I checked you can dislike politicians based on their viewpoints on things that are important to you. Yeah Pelosi is very very anti second amendment, I despise her because of that.  She said something in the mid 90s I believe along the lines of “if I would have had the votes I would have banned every single one of them.”

So for those interested in public opinion affecting how Republicans on the hill view the Mueller investigation and possible impeachment/resignation, the shutdown seems to have jump started things. 538 is already at 39.3, his lowest in mark in a year and second lowest all time at this point into his term, and the conservative base seem to be jumping ship over this enormous cave today. Keep in mind, the news will only be getting worse with a congress committed to transparent oversight just getting started. #2019:

    GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

    Conservatives to Trump: You caved!

Conservatives had a quick message for President Donald Trump after he announced a deal to end the government shutdown without funds for his border wall: You caved!

"Good news for George Herbert Walker Bush: As of today, he is no longer the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States," tweeted conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

"Nancy Pelosi is alpha," tweetedconservative film maker Mike Cernovich.

And right wing commentator Michael Malice opined: "Apparently a wall isn't as good as a cave."

Conservative outlets, from the Drudge Report to Breitbart News, also blasted headlines in dramatic font declaring Trump caved with "NO WALL."

The response came like clockwork, only minutes after Trump announced the deal to reopen the government for three weeks with no guarantee of wall funds. It was unsurprising considering conservative figures including Coulter were some of the initial instigators who prodded Trump to shut down the government to get his wall.

After the White House revealed in December it could back off from Trump's demands for over $5 billion in border wall funding to avoid a shutdown, Coulter mocked the president on Twitter, leading to a feud in which Trump unfollowed one of his biggest campaign supporters.

"The chant wasn't 'SIGN A BILL WITH B.S. PROMISES ABOUT "BORDER SECURITY" AT SOME POINT IN THE FUTURE, GUARANTEED TO FAIL!' It was "BUILD A WALL!" Coulter tweeted in December.

During a March interview with The New York Times' Frank Bruni, Coulter said Trump should feel the "fear of God" if he doesn't build the wall, arguing his supporters would leave him en masse unless he fulfills his campaign promise.

"He could sell Ivanka Trump merchandise from the Oval Office if he would just build the wall," Coulter said. "If he doesn't change course, no, they're never coming back."

Trump announced the deal with Democrats during an address in the Rose Garden on Friday afternoon, where he continued to emphasize the need for physical barriers on the border. The deal will reopen the government only until Feb. 15, after which Trump said he would reshutter the government or declare a national emergency if he does not secure funding for the wall by then.

But Trump's description of what kind of wall he wants has evolved in a notable concession to his critics. Trump said Friday that natural barriers already provide ample protection in some parts of the border, and that resources for border control should also focus on ports of entry and technology developments beyond a physical barrier.

"The walls that we are building are not medieval walls. They are smart walls designed to meet the needs of front-line border agents and are operationally effective," Trump said. "We do not need 2,000 miles of concrete wall from sea to shining sea, we never did, we never proposed that."

He did propose that, however. Many times. And it was what many of his most ardent conservative followers called on him to do. But with the government shutdown stretching past a month and vital government services reaching a breaking point, the president apparently calculated that he had little choice but to concede. Trump's approval rating also suffered from the standoff, with The Associated Press showing about 60 percent of Americans blaming Trump for the shutdown.

But Malice didn't think conceding to Democrats was likely to help Trump among his most core base.

"Jeb Bush is laughing so hard rn that he's about to choke on his own puke," Malice tweeted.

Every expert with this kind of thing has said that the wall is a dumb idea that won't be effective, not to mention the terrible environmental impact. And of course all the stats about crime and smuggling and terrorists that Trump spews to pump up the wall have all be disproven as well, and all the other points of entry would still be available anyhow, so the $50 BILLION it would take to build and all the billions more it would take to maintain and monitor would be a complete waste of money even if people didn't go under and over it. I can't believe a single American still supports such a dumb idea. It's just insanity.

Because, as pathetic as our current situation is, that situation is one in which Ann Coulter Seriously influences policy decisions in the White House.

My guess is because your President actually does things as a reaction to what she and many other media personalities say, and because Trump attacks the news media like a true fascist. That's also why people kind of now have to give a shit what the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity say.

I don't understand why anyone would call Pelosi an idiot though, even if they hate her for whatever reason. What has she ever done to warrant that label? We all know Trump does things every damn day to show the world that he is indeed a complete idiot. But I can't think of anything Pelosi has done like that. Can you please give examples of what you think is idiotic behaviour coming from Pelosi? And idiotic enough to be lumped in with Trump under the same adjective?
Ok fair enough. It was a poor term. She is not an idiot.

She is rated 100% or 0% by the different groups on many of the different issues. For example voting record 100% pro-union. And is for a lot of issues. So if you disagree with her on an issue, you will disagree by a lot. They ain’t no middle ground with her. But you are right, she isn’t an idiot. Just made a joke about trump/pelosi and then used an improper description of her.

Just looked at CNN front page.

    “Trump caved”

pelosi has trump “on his knees”

In this particular issue and this particular president blowhard it makes sense. I just hope that we don’t have all the news outlets becoming like Fox News and saying compromise = defeat.

Probably reading too much into it since this was trump and his stupid stand. Probably would be very different in the future.

I agree that compromise shouldn't be equated with defeat.... However, I don't think what happened today was a compromise at all, and really was simply Trump bowing to the pressure that he created. He set up a completely untenable situation and finally buckled because he was finally forced to admit he couldn't maintain it. That's not compromise.
Also, there is no way the Dems should compromise on this ridiculous wall in any case. It's an insane idea, that would ONLY serve Trump's personal political interests. That's ALL it is. I can't believe anyone actually wants Dems to bend a hair to that crap. Like someone said earlier - there is no middle ground in the wall vs no wall debate. It's not like half a wall can be built. And to trade something for the wall would be a horrid idea, since all the wall would be is a massive, uber-expensive boondoggle. There are too many real things to spend all those billions on ($5.7B would, of course, just be the beginning).

  • And if you haven't heard Team Trump Treason's White House press conference regarding opening up government, you need to listen to it, if you can stand his grating voice and mangled syntax. You might want to read it. "We're going to stop drugs in numbers nobody will ever believe." "I have the power of alternative options." The fucking guy is in so far over his head and yet he still has 39.2% approval. If they're not "deplorables," how should we refer to those that still support Team Trump Treason and his manufactured crisis at the border and Russian collusion?

You're right,  it's not a compromise because Trump got nothing.  However,  I would be in favor of this limited 5 billion for permanent DACA.  That would give some closure to those young people to begin their life and prevent Republicans from holding them hostage again.
