actually, they didn't split. they fired Eddie K for demanding more "performance money" than the rest of the band. They told him to go fuck himself. As I would have.

They have a new singer; Chris Shinn, formerly of Unified Theory (essentially Blind Melon post Shannon's death). The two Unified Theory albums are really good.

There was a second Unified Theory album? I only know of the first self titled one and loved it! More info please. Don't forget Dave Krusen on the drums!

I normally don't agree with a lead singer demanding more money. However, I think Eddie K is the main reason that they were as good as what they were. His voice was very unique. I saw him several months back on a acoustic tour and he was pretty badass. I also got to meet him and he was very cool and down to earth. Live is not the same without him. I have heard Live with Chris Shinn and it's just not the same or for me.

This thread was a very interesting read, and I read it all. I'm surprised I see so many people saying Foo Fighters. I love them and Grohl is just a cool dude. They're great performers as well, interacting a lot with the crowd often.
Arcade Fire who I also love, I can understand why people don't like them. They're pretty odd but still awesome to me. Same with Tool. I can see people not liking them but I love them both.
Both Radiohead and Soundgarden I really can't listen to.

Music is all preference so if you don't like what I like than whatever.

*Love: Pearl Jam, Modest Mouse, Tool, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire, Katie Perry, Gaslight Anthem, MMJ
*Like: RHCP, REM, Black Keys, Phoenix, Nirvana, Strokes, KOL, Mumford and Sons, Killers, Muse
*Don't like/Don't understand the love for: Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, DMB, Soundgarden, U2, Sublime, Jack Johnson
*Hate: ACDC, Guns and Roses, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi

Curious as to why has Gaslight been mentioned so much? And what do people think of Modest Mouse?

To all those who don't get the Chili Peppers.

They are not meant to be taken seriously, it's all in fun, it's all craziness. It's all in nudity and wearing socks on their dicks. People really don't get what comedians these guys are, let alone the fantastic groove?

No, I get the comedy -- I think they're funny and charismatic, and I'll watch an interview with them any time. But their songs all sound alike to me.

I think this is a common misconception. RHCP does not all sound the same. Look at their music from the 80's, then early 90's then late 90's and beyond. You'll hear at least 3 different styles of music from them.

Anthony is a horrible live singer. Great at the rap-esque thing but live he is almost always flat (seen em live 5 times on different tours). He has improved over the years. But what a performer, all of them really put on a high energy show.

Then Flea, that is a bass playing genious, he just absolutely kicks ass on the bass. Does amazing shit.

Finally they were amongst the first to pioneer the rap/rock thing, 10 years before Run DMC and Aeorosmith. Even if you don't like the style, they were groundbreaking

no way it was 10 years before that,, "walk this way" was 86 or 87? are you saying they were doing this 10 years before that?

yep.. RHCP's first album was 1984.. Run DMC's Raising Hell was 1986.. Not quite ten years..

God, a group of friends my wife brought into the relationship have THE worst taste in music. For instance- we live in Wisconsin and the big Summerfest music festival's in Milwaukee every year. Yet these guys and gals get fired up about seeing Collective Soul, No Doubt and the Offspring each year. This year, one of them was gushing on Facebook about how he FINALLY got to see Jimmy Eat World live. Now, when I posted that tidbit on another board someone told me how Jimmy has a cult following since The Middle; it's just that these friends get so fired up about bands who aren't anyone's favorite by a longshot. Maybe I'm just a pretentious ass; I haven't ruled that out. And oh- fuck the Beatles.

To some of you saying DMB, I'm curious to hear you're reasoning why? I'm not even just asking because they are my favorite band… Just curious as to why you don't get them. I can understand if they aren't you're thing, they are obviously a different band than Pearl Jam… Just not sure why people don't get them. Their musicians are top notch, and Dave is an incredible song writer

Not to mention RHCP and Run DMC have COMPLETELY different sounds. Run-DMC were hip hop; RHCP were rock with funk influence. RHCP pioneered nothing in the world of hip hop or rap/rock. That title belongs to, obviously, Aerosmith and Run-DMC with an honourable mention to Anthrax and Public Enemy.
