I think I'm starting to like hearing the sirens! Didn't know what to think first few listens yesterday. Found the lines "hear the sirens" and "the fear goes away" in my head all day today. Just listened again, and I think I'm starting to get it.
But, no matter what I'm glad new PJ is stirring everybody up so much!! Love it or hate it, it's quite an interesting debate happening over one fucking song.

You have GOT to be shitting in my cornflakes!!! I'm actually a Madonna fan - Like a Prayer video is killer! and the SOUNDS in that song are spot-on! Ear/Eyegasm.
I like this a shit ton more than Mind Your Manners which I thought was, and still is, completely forgettable. I hope the album has far more songs like Sirens than MYM.

I just read Johnny Firecloud's review of "Sirens" in AntiQuiet and I thought..."Holy cow, not only does this guy 'get it', he feels the same exact way I do."
Minus the "...Ibogaine bath of the soul...", that was just tremendous and I could never describe something like that

Well it seems as if many more people like the song than not which is cool. I enjoy hearing people's opinions and this song certainly has some strong ones.
I have listened several times, which is a must with PJ songs, before commenting. I really want to love it, let alone like it, but it's just not doing it for me. Some of my favorite PJ songs are "ballads" like Come Back, Parachutes and Just Breathe but this song I find boring on all levels. Musically and lyrically uninteresting, meandering and bloated. Ed says pretty much the same thing thematically in Just Breathe in a much more meaningful, painful and heartbreaking way IMO. I actually find portions of the song cringe worthy (the "another man" line). Couldn't even make it through my last listen. I've never felt this way with a PJ song and it pains me to say it. Maybe I'll feel differently when it's in the context of the whole album but man, I think it's a pretty bad piece of music. I find MYM a far superior song on every level. Still cannot wait for the album and I'm glad that this song connects with some people. That's what it's all about in the end, a connection. I just can't make one with this song.

Agree on it being bloated. Just listened to the album version, and when the piano comes in... it's like.. couldn't they have let that out? Together with the short forced guitar solo that throws me back to an late 80s/early 90's power ballad.
But I think it's better then Just breathe. Could have been more stripped from the bloatiness though.
