Pearl Jam will play the BIG DAY OUT

Look, I'd still rather see the band play the BDO than not at all. I'm really loving the new single and I'm sure the shows will still be great. I'm no great fan of the BDO (or music festivals in general) but I've never been unable to block out the less-enjoyable aspects if it's a band I really want to see. I'm sure seeing Pearl Jam in that environment will be no exception, I'm just happy to see them play again since it's been quite a while.
I'm definitely thinking Melbourne (at least) will get a sideshow.
Yes, true - better something than nothing. (Though I am with you on the festival thing.)
A sideshow venue would be tricky - as has been mentioned, many places are taken up early in the year. Even Myer Music Bowl would be too small to accommodate.
I will still desperately hold onto hope that it is another rumour, albeit a strong one. Like you, I would be happy just to see them again.0 -
good names r taken wrote:If this dreadful prediction comes true, I am hoping for some sideshows at least but will be tricky - at least in melbourne.
The only traditional venue available would be Myer Music Bowl.
AAMI stadium and Etihad Stadium are generally reserved that time of year for A League soccer.
Rod Laver Arena and Hisense are booked with the Australian Open.
MCG is cricket.
Palace/Hifi/Corner etc are too small and usually booked w/ Big Day Out sideshows...
Fingers crossed for a standalone March Tour - 3 dates at Rod Laver Arena.
I love your last line - optimistic, but I am crossing my fingers and anything else I can cross for that as well.0 -

Sydney with two BDO dates - would be unlikely for a sidey
Brisbane and Melbourne would most likely.
Depends on their fear of the festivals not selling out. Hopefully the other headliner pulls in a crowd too to help the cause.
Myer Bowl in Melbourne would be perfect.
Well, they did play the Myer Music Bowl many years ago. Same chaos as happened last time may happen again - considering the crowd they got to Etihad, the Myer Music Bowl may be a tad small to accommodate.0 -
Yesterday when I heard 2 big acts that have never played a festival in Australia, my first thought was PJ....I hope we are all wrong.
I really want to see Pearl Jam live, I haven't seen them play live for many years. I was really hoping it would be in a venue, not at the Big Day Out. So I could see them play for a few hours, not a short set.
I am from Sydney, so if they have side shows I will probably have to fly interstate to see them, since Sydney has 2 BDOs, and it seems unlikely Sydney will sell out 2 BDO's.0 -
I'm excited! Really excited!!
Just bought tickets for one Los Angeles show (on my travel to Australia) and the rumours of them coming to Australia when I'm there are awesome. Please let them be true. BDO, sideshows, headlinershows...all of them!! :twisted:2007: Nijmegen

2012: Amsterdam 1
2013: Los Angeles 1 & 2
2014: Gold Coast

Given Pearl Jam's recent countdown clock for the U.S.A tour announcement, would they not do the same for an Aussie tour?
Considering the current countdown is for the album, perhaps we may not be receiving BDO news after all?
Couldn't agree more - Surely with all this countdown stuff going on, a "First Time Festival Tour of Australia/NZ" should get a countdown. I think we will see a tour announcement after the album release for a March/April tour
If they did play BDO- I would be there with bells on, but will be bitterly disappointed if they dont do sideshows in every city (which is ver hard when touring with BDO)I'll ride the wave where it takes me

Loathe the prospect of a BDO set. If this happens, I'll attend the Melbourne event, but won't be able to convince myself to travelling interstate.
* with other festivals in recent years, what has been the 10C procedure, or do we just hunt for ticket with non-members0 -
I think PJ would not put the countdown on their website for the BDO announcement.
It would be way too easy to put two and two together.
Doing festival shows in Australia must be so much cheaper for the band, as Australia relative to other countries can be much more expense to tour around and in. Therefore, their choice would be based on costs vs profit and they are probably getting a nice pay cheque from BDO if they are doing the festival.
Also, looking at the BDO dates:
Auck - Jan 17th
Gold Coast - Jan 19th
Melb - Jan 24th
Syd - Jan 26th
Syd - Jan 27th
Adel - Jan 31st
Perth - Feb 2nd
Sideshows could potential occur:
Melb - 21st - 22nd Jan???
Syd - 29th Jan???Post edited by Princess Bulldozer onEquipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure - science.

10C get an allocation of tickets, or an individual password is sent to 10C members to use on the festival website, from what I remember anyway.Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure - science.

I'm pretty confident they are going to be playing the BDO. No sources, just from the information out there. It seems to add up. I assume C3 did Lolla in S.America? So I think the PJ connection is there with the bookers. However, they did not get booked for ACL ... so nothing is certain.
Would be horrible. They'd probably only get 90 minutes. And PJ are exactly the sort of band that all the clueless drunk bogans would love, reminiscing amongst each other how Ten is the most maxtreme album ever. These said bogans will start causing all sorts of problems, trampling through the crowd and trying to start a moshpit at the mere semblance of a fast song.
At least when Neil Young played, these bogans all left to go and watch the Prodigy, and let Neil tear down the house to a better (but smallish) crowd. Or so I am told, seeing as I had moved to Texas by the time that happened.0 -

This would suck if this was to happen. Hopefully, I will have 10C faithful around me, if necessary.Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure - science.

Hope it's not true. Pearl Jam with a heap of drunk, shirtless, southern crossed tattooed morons will be awful.0

Perfectly said - The attitude of a large number of people that attend these festivals is all abouth getting wasted and tearing shit up - and yes I have been to BDO and SW recently. There are some people there for the music, but so many are more concerned with the "event" rather than enjoying the music.
I will attend if this is the only option, but after being away for 4 years, just seeing a BDO show is a let down. Not everyone can afford to travel to see sideshows if they have any.
They will make money off a tour no matter how they do it - they could sell out 2 shows in every city (more is some) easily, so whilst the BDO might be logistically easier, I can't see them profiting a whole lot better doing this.I'll ride the wave where it takes me

I hope it's not true because I haven't seen them since the 2006 tour, I was sick during the 2009 tour, and I definitely won't be going to the BDO just to see them.
The Sydney BDO venue is an absolute nightmare & ticket prices are ridiculous.03/11/95 - Eastern Creek Raceway, Sydney, Australia

Exactly right. BDO used to be a great festival (in the 90s) now it is just a drunken, violent clusterfuck and PJ should know better. It is not that I am against festivals, but it seems too many Aussie festival goers are complete fuckwits. They'll be wanting to hear nothing but hits.0 -

there's nothing wrong with wanting to hear the big hits if they actually like the songs and are there to see pearl jam.
but festival goers actually wanting to see pearl jam in itself is an entirely different matter. BDO goers just go for the sake of it to get pissed and take pills and pass out.Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.0 -
Please don't play BDO!0

I heard from the BDO camp today, Pearl Jam and Blur. Pearl Jam will have a 2hr set. Make sure you register at www.bigdayout.com for tickets prior to announcement on 31 July.PJ - Sydney 1998; Sydney 2003; Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle 2006; Melbourne, Sydney 2009; Gold Coast, Melbourne, Sydney 2014.
