OMG I hope this isn't true. :fp: :nono: BDO is absolutely dreadful! Short set with no chance of getting up the front past all the drunk & in other ways wasted teenagers! I'm thinking of going to the BDO next year on it's return to NZ, if there are any vaguely interesting bands because it's new site with the resumption of Auckland shows is kinda near where I live(2 suburbs away) but for a band I love & would have to see it would be absolutely dreadful!! Also, I second what Paul said, YTF would they do this when they can fill stadiums on a tour of their own, especially if it is going to be a new album we find out about tomorrow? Oh yeah & doesn't this rumour go around every year!?!? This does of course suggest one year it will be true but, please NOOOOOO!

The reason bands play festivals is because they have to do less of the organisation in house. All the logistics are planned by the festival organisers. all the band has to do is show up and play and collect millions of $. it is much easier money than headlining your own tour.
Yes I know why they do it, I'm saying I hope they don't. I went to the BDOs Uncle Neil & Soundgarden did, as well as the 1st 5 or so BDOs(when I was one of the drunk & wasted teens or early 20somethings) because I couldn't miss those artists playing here & I just really hope the PJ guys never do a BDO.

There is no way PJ will come all the way here just for a couple of festival shows, they will play some stadiums for sure.

I went to both those BDO shows as well. I actually went and saw the BDO on the Gold Coast and Sydney for the Soundgarden tour and they were both really great shows. No problem with drunk teenages and I had fun at those shows and managed front row aswell. I don't think there will be too much trouble with younger fans at a Pearl Jam BDO because most youngsters have absolutely zero interest in seeing Pearl Jam and will go see something else.

What sucks so bad about it? I've never heard of it before. Just curious.

It actually used to be a good festival many years ago. It was predominantly alternative (i know i hate this branding of 'alternative' but i couldn't think of a better word) bands and it was great but it has now become MUCH more about dance music, glow sticks and very young children acting like idiots. Soundwave is a much better festival although I'm not so sure PJ would fit there either. Fingers crossed they do their own thing.

It would be interesting the input of Matt Cameron on this as he was there a couple of years ago with soundgarden. If he thought the crowd was responsive, venue etc.

Geez, I just hope they don't. But I'll take what I can get.

Just did a google search. Some organiser for the Stone Festival included Pearl Jam as a band he would target. Along with KOL.

It would be an excellent marketing move for PJ to play BDO - recruit some young Australian fans. A little bit of reflected 'cool' would be much appreciated by this 30-something too - a teenage client once asked me about my musical taste, and his incredulous response was "I didn't know that you were some kind of bogan from last century!":lol::lol: ......

QOTSA said no to BDO. Josh mentioned on Triple J that an Autumn tour by themselves will happen.

I went to Big Day Out from 1999-2010 with the exception of 2000 and 2009. PJ were meant to headline it in 2001, but pulled out after the Roskilde tragedy. Several other bands on the bills wanted to withdraw also after Limp Bizkit were chosen as the new headline act.
When Soundgarden were announced to play in 2012, I was very disappointed, as Kanye West was billed above them. I flew to Melbourne to see them do a sideshow.
PJ are rumoured frequently to play BDO, I dont wish for it to happen, but it very well may.

I hope they don't play the BDO, I would love a few night's worth of PJ shows. I don't want to spend the day with thousands of drunk teenagers at the BDO, I'm too old for that.

I went once in 2000, yes I liked it then, but have never had any interest in going back.

  • Let's hope that there are some other BIG artists on the BDO bill if this is true. Last few years there has been a strict "no sideshow" policy for headliners if the festival itself doesn't sell out.

I remember Tool headling a few years ago, BDO had 2 Sydney shows that were no where near sold out so they didnt allow Tool a Sydney sideshow, They did let them play in Melb and Bris though as those BDOs had both sold out.
