Confirmed from a musician who has previously played the BDO.

Hope they play a sideshow for fan club only in each city with priority for members from that city. Great way to do the huge festival thing (read: cash) and make the fans insanely happy!!

Other acts: QOTSA, Arcade Fire.

That's really true, crossing my fingers this isn't going to happen this time either. :?

  • This would be pretty average if true... As long as they do sideshows I'll be happy though.. Would not pay $160+ for a BDO ticket. I used to go each year in the 2000's until 2010. Personally don't think they've had a decent lineup in the last 3 years.

I'm pretty sure QOTSA already self excluded themselves from it. Saying they are here for a headline tour no festivals in march.

i hope that..but dont see it happening..just had a conversation with another member from australia in this other thread...seems will this way from now,,huge stadium with 50k tix and up..
still in europe we have hopes cos we are alot of different countries in the continent and cant fit their tour dates with all the different festivals dates, cos mostly festivals are at weekends,,so they do a mix thing here, with festivals and arena shows

As much as I am pumped for PJ to be coming down again, I really hope you're wrong!

I hope you're wrong too Andrewdel! And not just because it would suck seeing PJ at BDO. My baby is due mid-Jan, if they come to Oz in Jan then I'm stuffed . . . I might be able to see ONE side show depending on when I give birth. But I could easily miss everything. OMG the thought of that makes me want to ball my eyes out!!! :( :( Is tour disappointment grief a legitimate thing??? Do you think I could get time off work??

I am really worried if this is true, because the ability to play sideshows is very limited in most cities. I know Brisbane doesn't get too many sidehsows from teh BDO or SW bands and I would assume Adelaide and Perth would be the same. RATM only did sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney when they headlined BDO.
After the 2009 stadium tour, I was really hoping for another tour at Entertainment centres where they play a few nights. Give us all a chance to see a few shows, or at least get tix for 1 show.
If they do play BDO- I will still be there.

Here's hoping we find something out in 16 hours!!

    Agree 100%

BDO really sucks. After the success of the 2009 Tour, I don't know why they'd go down this path, they really don't need to and it is a slap in the face of their real fans who currently fill stadiums on their headlining tours. The Big Day Out lost it's appeal years ago.

If it is true I hope there are side shows in EVERY city. Perth Arena (http://pertharena.com.au/) just opened and I was hoping to see the band there.

OMG I hope this isn't true. :fp: :nono: BDO is absolutely dreadful! Short set with no chance of getting up the front past all the drunk & in other ways wasted teenagers! I'm thinking of going to the BDO next year on it's return to NZ, if there are any vaguely interesting bands because it's new site with the resumption of Auckland shows is kinda near where I live(2 suburbs away) but for a band I love & would have to see it would be absolutely dreadful!! Also, I second what Paul said, YTF would they do this when they can fill stadiums on a tour of their own, especially if it is going to be a new album we find out about tomorrow? Oh yeah & doesn't this rumour go around every year!?!? This does of course suggest one year it will be true but, please NOOOOOO!

Yes, very true. The only reason to play festivals in my opinion is not as part of a tour, but a few shows, like they have done in the US. As you say, playing a festival in Oz as part of a tour is a slap in the face to the real fans.
We want to see full set lists with the chance to see them play multiple shows in one city. I loved the 2009 tour, but couldn't afford to travel to see more thean theshow in my home town. It's a great feeling knowing that you can see the band 2 or 3 nights in a week and looking forward to the setlist changes etc.
I know this sounds a little greedy, but when it has been 4 years since last visit, I don't want a 1.5 - 2 hour set at a festival ( I will go if there is nothing else on offer).

The reason bands play festivals is because they have to do less of the organisation in house. All the logistics are planned by the festival organisers. all the band has to do is show up and play and collect millions of $. it is much easier money than headlining your own tour.

The new Perth Arena is an awesome venue. Just the right size; small and intimate for PJ.
