“Tickets will cost approximately $185”,...I really hope PJ just do a regular tour and give the BDO a miss.

I'm nervous.... really nervous...
Though, because of two Sydney bdo, would that mean pearl Jam would play two nights or pj only one because of the two headliners ? Because if that's two nights, that's a positive I guess considering if Pj played a solo, I reckon they'd only do one stadium per city...Sydney 11/02/2003

As we know, speculation is that PJ are going to play Big Day Out, with the line up to be announced on the 31st of July. If this is true, an announcement would obviously be imminent. Given Pearl Jam's recent countdown clock for the U.S.A tour announcement, would they not do the same for an Aussie tour?
Considering the current countdown is for the album, perhaps we may not be receiving BDO news after all?Sydney 11/02/2003

BDO CEO confirmed they hoped for a "white whale" and got 3. Said 2 headliners have never played an Australian festival before. Also announced 2 shows in Sydney (only done for Metallica and Muse).
I worked at BDO last year. A girl I worked with hinted on FB that my prediction is right. RHCP last year, SG the year before. I'd lock it in. Probably with Arcade Fire. QOTSA said they were doing their own shows. I'd suggest PJ could have changed that. Or my other guess for the 3rd would be Arctic Monkeys. NIN will do Soundwave.
Also BDO just merged with Lolla team.PJ - Sydney 1998; Sydney 2003; Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle 2006; Melbourne, Sydney 2009; Gold Coast, Melbourne, Sydney 2014.

Well, looks like the Magic 8-Ball is saying 'All Signs Point to Yes'. If so, will my love for Pearl Jam outweigh my frustrations and anger caused by drunken bogans? I reckon - though the ticket price hurts, especially seeing as I will be heading to the festival around an hour before PJ take to the stage.
The question is, if they do play the festival, and take in a sideshow, where would the sideshow be? Melbourne is closest to where I am and in 2009 they pulled in a massive crowd at Etihad. No footy at that time. Would it be too large a venue to play a sideshow? Rod Laver? Too small to appease so many? Though I know you can't please everyone (yes, me included).
All speculation at the moment, I know. I just think playing the BDO would alienate a large section of fans. That said, I just want 'em here. I can get a little Pearl Jam crazy, that is all.0 -
If this dreadful prediction comes true, I am hoping for some sideshows at least but will be tricky - at least in melbourne.
The only traditional venue available would be Myer Music Bowl.
AAMI stadium and Etihad Stadium are generally reserved that time of year for A League soccer.
Rod Laver Arena and Hisense are booked with the Australian Open.
MCG is cricket.
Palace/Hifi/Corner etc are too small and usually booked w/ Big Day Out sideshows...
Fingers crossed for a standalone March Tour - 3 dates at Rod Laver Arena.2003: Melbourne 1
2006: Verona, Vienna, Zagreb, Melbourne 1-2-3, Adelaide 1-2
2009: Melbourne
2010: Belfast
2012: Werchter
2014: Melbourne, Adelaide, EV Melb 1-20 -
I know we see this rumour every year but I guess it's going to happen sometime. As much as I hate BDO I'll take live PJ any way I can (even if it means watsted teenagers and bogans).
Fingers crossed for some sideshows - although if memory serves RHCP didn't play any this year and it had been a few years since their last visit here“Do not postpone happiness”

Look, I'd still rather see the band play the BDO than not at all. I'm really loving the new single and I'm sure the shows will still be great. I'm no great fan of the BDO (or music festivals in general) but I've never been unable to block out the less-enjoyable aspects if it's a band I really want to see. I'm sure seeing Pearl Jam in that environment will be no exception, I'm just happy to see them play again since it's been quite a while.
I'm definitely thinking Melbourne (at least) will get a sideshow.0 -
This on Triple J website today...
Fresh from announcing the dates for next year's instalment of the Big Day Out, organisers have started spruiking the line up.
Billed as "the line up to end all Big Day Out line ups", BDO CEO Adam Zammit was in a sharing mood on twitter over the weekend. Rivalling fellow festival promoter AJ Maddah with his frankness, Zammit took time to respond to a number of queries from punters about the 2014 event.
On the BDO's change of venue in Adelaide
"Our show is going to [be] too big for Adelaide showgrounds this year and we have a few surprises in store". He later tweeted that they've, "got another reason for moving which we will announce later."
On the line up
"Two of the headliners have never played an Australian festival before", Zammit revealed before throwing off the scent by saying,
"Everyone who hasn't been ruled out is in line until we announce...which gives Cher, Bros and Tina Arena an even chance".
And...
"I would lock in Boys 2 Men, Martika and Human Nature for you but I think they are already headlining Future Fest"
Interestingly, back in April the BDO CEO retweeted a link to a Like A Version from The Lumineers, who revealed to Tom & Alex that there were rumours of a January visit.
"I know you have your Big Day Out festival sometime around there so hopefully we'll play that", they hinted.
How BDO 2014 will compare to Soundwave
"Yeah I f--ken love Soundwave, but I'm pretty sure our line up will even have AJ coming along."
In response to the rise in ticket prices
"$20 more than last year but an extra headliner. 2 of our headliners have never played an Australian festival", he tweeted. That claim was backed up by promoter Ken West in a recent interview with themusic who said he was, "hoping for one 'White Whale', managed to get two and ended up with three."
The full Big Day Out line up will be announced on triple j - on air and online - at 8pm, Wednesday July 31.

Pretty much resigned to this happening now. Oh well. Shouldn't complain.Come to send, not condescend...0

Strongly doubt Adelaide and Perth would get a sidey.
Sydney with two BDO dates - would be unlikely for a sidey
Brisbane and Melbourne would most likely.
Depends on their fear of the festivals not selling out. Hopefully the other headliner pulls in a crowd too to help the cause.
Myer Bowl in Melbourne would be perfect.Come to send, not condescend...0 -
^ Agreed.
Hope to make it both the Adelaide BDO and Melbourne sideshow (work situation permitting.)0 -
Will we expect a 'tweet' or anything of the kind from PJ soon?

I would assume so. It would be too hard to enforce, plus all the BDO bogans would crack a sad."So far they have Jeff, Stone and Mike and they're fucking right now trying to get a little Eddie. And if they get to Boom ... we're just gonna keep adding band members. We'll have a horn section ... that's evolution, baby."0 -
pjfan31 wrote:Will we expect a 'tweet' or anything of the kind from PJ soon?
I don't expect sideshows (if there are any) will be announced immediately, they usually wait to see how well the festival is selling (though, in this case, I don't think they'll have many problems selling out.)0 -
Paul Andrews wrote:No Coder wrote:I am really worried if this is true, because the ability to play sideshows is very limited in most cities. I know Brisbane doesn't get too many sidehsows from teh BDO or SW bands and I would assume Adelaide and Perth would be the same. RATM only did sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney when they headlined BDO.
After the 2009 stadium tour, I was really hoping for another tour at Entertainment centres where they play a few nights. Give us all a chance to see a few shows, or at least get tix for 1 show.
If they do play BDO- I will still be there.
Here's hoping we find something out in 16 hours!!
Agree 100%
BDO really sucks. After the success of the 2009 Tour, I don't know why they'd go down this path, they really don't need to and it is a slap in the face of their real fans who currently fill stadiums on their headlining tours. The Big Day Out lost it's appeal years ago.
If it is true I hope there are side shows in EVERY city. Perth Arena (http://pertharena.com.au/) just opened and I was hoping to see the band there.
GORGEOUS venue! Amazing. I hope PJ doesn't play there because with the combo of Australia's beauty and that venue they might never come back to NA!0
