Pill-popping idiots won't be there to watch Pearl Jam. I anticipate the vibe of the crowd in the front D barrier would be not dissimilar to the 2009 stadium tour. Sure, the whole vibe of the day is different, and there are some idiots, but it's not like 95% of the pit will be stoned twats.

It was pretty chilled for Neil and Soundgarden.

I'll go to Adelaide BDO for sure, head down after work and see them on a nice warm night without too much pressure.

    Will be pretty cool.

Big Day Out sucks and has for years. They cram as many people in that they can, over charge for every convenience and represent corporatisation of music at its worst.

    Didn't see Neil there.
    Didn't see Soundgarden there.
Won't be seeing Pearl Jam there.

Sorry, but if this turns out to be true, it is a major disappointment. I'm just one voice that means fuck all in the scheme of things, but I've got better things to do than spend all day being hassled my drunken and pill popping fuckwits who don't give a damn about anything other than their own inflated alpha male ego and are a danger to themselves and all around them.

The whole concept of the BDO is rubbish these days, but it's not that bad. Sure, I'm not a fan of the "corporatisation" aspect, and the fact that it is full of douches, but most of them are just kids. Most of them go to Stereosonic or FutureMusic now anyway.

Ahh but you live in Adelaide, Perth BDO is full of douches who earn too much money and have no consideration for anyone other than themselves. The term is Cashed Up Bogan.

I think I want to fly to Adelaide for their BDO.

it's shit, not just because of the patronage, but because they will be shortened sets with no 10c privileges. that's the biggest kick in the arse of pj playing festival gigs.

4 years to wait for the band to return, for bloody festivals.

let's see if sideshows are announced.. but i doubt it unless bdos sell out immediately.
Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.

other festivals are full of douches with less money and still have no consideration. the term is cashless bogan!

That might be the ticket. BDO has been struggling for a venue in Perth recently given the behaviour of the patrons leaving the event and noise issues caused by the promoter who really doesn't give a toss. The leaked poster had Perth venue TBA - fingers crossed they can't get a venue and PJ come over here for a show at Perth Arena or ME Stadium.

A lot of the venues are TBA I think? Big change in setups from what I heard.

are we going to get a bunch of us ten clubbers together and just create our own 10c members section? surely there's enough of us to band together and make something of it (if it even happens...)

There were 45,000 people at the Melbourne PJ show in 2009 ... this shows how mainstream they are. It's not even comparable to Neil and Soundgarden. Most of the bogans wouldn't have even known who Neil was.

If there isn't someone like Skrillex in the boiler room at the same time, all the bogans will definitely flock to PJ. And be ready to make it unpleasant for anyone around them.

But like you say, if you are able to get inside the D barrier, you might be separated from the bogan who will do no such thing, as it interrupts the process of getting smashed at the bar. But waiting all day in the blazing sun is no fun for anyone.

I went for Neil, I went for SG, I'll probably go for PJ. Looking at the schedule maybe I'll even jump the ditch for the Sydney shows. I'll ignore & avoid the wasted teenagers as much as possible & yeah, I'll hope they come back down under(Oz & NZ) again soon.

I have family and friends to visit in both NZ and Australia and I wanted to couple a visit down there with Pearl Jam shows....not sure I would make the trip for some BS festival dates in the middle of the summer, I have done that enough here in the US. I saw how much of a shit show the event was in Sydney earlier this year, I really hope PJ does not play the BDO.

PS If they do, what are the chances of a 10C only section somewhere? none?

Very unlikely I would think. I don't see how they could actually with bands on all day, then they all of a sudden designate one area for 10c peeps, or they hold an area all day? I doubt it.

Ill make patches! We can iron them on hats. We can tell the difference between us and others as we will have hats on the correct way not backwards anyway!

If its true, which shows will you attend? What is essentially your local town show?

    No sideshows.

Just because they aren't playing at your local pub and you have first pick of tickets, means you whine! They get a full 2hr set! They are playing all over Australia with a bill of other amazing bands! Do you think Europe or South America whine when they play festivals? I doubt it. Go and enjoy the band at a cool festival, or stop whining. You think they should be so privileged that they ask you what style of show they play?!

  • Nice to know I am not alone here.

Like many, I understand their reasons for doing the BDO. It just sucks the festival is for a certain demographic that has many Pearl Jam fans sitting outside of it. A sideshow could be in order, but considering they scored 40-thousand plus to their Melbourne show in '09, it would have to be at a similar venue. Depends if the festival does one of those shitty 'festival appearance only' deals as well.

My only other time at the Bogan's Day Out was in 2008 when Rage Against The Machine played. I skipped the day and headed to the festival at around 7 or so. I think the same will be in order for PJ. $185 for a BDO ticket stings, but if it's the only way, then...

It will be interesting to see how many Pearl Jam fans boycott the festival or just say, 'fuck it, I'm going'. I will be 35 when the festival comes around and will no doubt feel like a grandpa there. I can't see too many fans in their forties, fifties etc. going. Or many parents wanting to take their little tacker. That is what sucks.

I get what you're saying mate. The attitude that can come with 10c doesn't sit well with me either at times.

I just think some people feel as though Pearl Jam playing the BDO will alienate a large section of their fan base. And a lot of people don't like the way the Big Day Out has turned from a music festival to, well, more of a big day out.

Just out of curiosity, is your no sideshows comment a fact?

It is not Whining - it is stating an opinion. BDO is almost the polar opposite of the experience of a regular Pearl Jam show. The BDO stopped being cool many years ago and is now just a massive clusterfuck of a cash grab. The last two I attended were among the worst concert experiences of my life. I once loved the BDO when it was a cool alternative festival - but now it is anything but. Maybe they'll put together a newer cool format and if so, I'll gladly change my opinion, but if it is anything like the last few years - fuck it.

We don't know for certain yet about sideshows.
Only dates it could work would be 21st/22nd Jan in Melbourne and 29th in Sydney.
    Doubt that will occur though.
