Does this really concern you? Sharia in the US?
And are you pretending your country tries to prevent it in other nations?

The Egyptian Constitution was written with Sharia law in it.

Sharia law is scary. It's brutal and uncivilized. If for no other reason; women have zero rights under it.

oh you mean the Egyptian consitution drafted by the muslim brotherhood?

U.S. Move to Give Egypt $450 Million in Aid Meets Resistance

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/29/world ... .html?_r=0
The assistance outlined in letters to Congress on Friday would be contingent on Egypt’s setting in motion economic and budgetary changes that the International Monetary Fund is now negotiating as part of a $4.8 billion loan.
    .....
In addition to the $1 billion in assistance, the administration is working with Egypt to provide $375 million in financing and loan guarantees for American financiers who invest in Egypt and a $60 million investment fund for Egyptian businesses. All of that comes on top of $1.3 billion in military aid that the United States provides Egypt each year.
    .....

I haven't figured out if that 1.3 billion in military aid includes the $213 million worth of jets and tanks the US decided last week to send to Egypt....nor what the IMF's "bugetary changes" constitute.....but I guaran-fucking-tee the changes benefit western business interests and do NOT benefit the people of Egypt.

Fair enough. Using the word rant was inappropriate.

I am less concerned with Sharia in the US. I am concerned that under Sharia a nation will acquire a nuke then use it.

Hillary said when asked what the US would do if a nuke went off in Israel "we would obliterate them"...OBLITERATE them! That's coming from Hillary fuckin Clinton! Doesn't that scare you?

Just that fact that the question was asked AND answered is scary.
I'm not really sure what the context of the interview was, nor what exactly it is you're asking me whether I'm afraid of....but generally, no.....a wind-bag politician beating war drums does not scare me. I can think for myself about the risk/reward of nuclear war. I really don't believe that there is more than a handful of people in the world who are extreme enough in their views to think that nuclear war is the answer to anything.....the odds of those people getting their hands on a bomb are not great enough for me to lose any sleep, or more importantly, base or support any policy on it.

edit: I guess if we call the use of depleted uranium in bombs 'nuclear war', then we can say that nuclear war is an answer to nuclear waste disposal! So maybe it's more than a handful of people.....The US was able to dispose of over 1000 tons of nuclear waste in Iraq. You can't say I don't see the positives.....

They're def the puppet masters...and we don't even get to see who is pulling the strings.
In the end, it's THEM who benefit most from the essentially ungrounded fear of Iran getting nukes.

No, it's just an arrogant comment. I don't mind talking about diversity in the USA and all that good stuff, but there's no need to say we "lead the way.. By far!"
Because no we don't. We absolutely do not.

actually, it wasn't a "positive thread about the USA". Here's your first sentence from the first post.

There's nothing short of chest bumping and high-fiving going on and... for the goofiest of claims:

"We're the best. We're awesome. Dontcha think?"

Who starts a thread about their own country wanting people to chime in, hold hands, and sing its blessings?

I mentioned, a number of posts back the way, that according to most objective polls and surveys, the USA is not the best country in the world. In fact, when looking at quality of life and health care, ranks quite poorly. Here is one such survey, listing the top 80 countries to be born in today:

    Enjoy.

Good thing... save the environment... I laugh because I'm thinking this can only be a sacarstic post. Because we all know of the effects of fracking. To name a few:

Unwanted explosions causing damage and earthquakes
Planned explosions causing earthquakes and further damages
Contamination and poisoning of water sources
Poisoned tap water into the homes
Flamable tap water into the homes
    Air and surface contamination.....

    the list is long.

But then again... seeing where this post comes from, maybe I should just be using this little fella

telling someone to chill out doesn't automatically mean they are angry in some way. I'm pretty sure most of us are chill.

You are the one who invite people from countries other than the US to comment on the policies and philosophies, which we did. Then you rebut them with just a bunch of pro-USA chest bumping with falsehoods ("we are the leader in multiculturalism" is but one), then you complain when people refute those claims.

What did you want from this thread? were you expecting a bunch of non-Americans to tell you the US is the greatest nation on earth?

  • Don’t frack with our water, say majority of Canadians in new poll

Ottawa – The controversial practice of hydraulic fracturing, otherwise known as fracking, is facing mounting opposition across the country. A new Environics Research poll commissioned by the Council of Canadians has found that 62% of Canadians support “a moratorium on all fracking for natural gas until all the federal environmental reviews are complete”. “Communities across Canada are saying ‘no’ to fracking projects. It’s time for the federal government to listen and ban the practice,” says Maude Barlow, national chairperson, Council of Canadians. “At the very least there needs to be a moratorium to provide time for a federal review the serious consequences of fracking.”

Fracking is a contentious method of extracting unconventional natural gas, primarily shale gas. The technique involves the injection of millions of litres of water and thousands of litres of unidentified chemicals underground at very high pressure in order to create fractures in the underlying rock formations to extract the trapped gas.

“The Council of Canadians opposes fracking because of its high water use, its high greenhouse gas emissions, its impacts on human health, the disruption it causes to wildlife, and the danger it poses to groundwater and local drinking water,” says Emma Lui, water campaigner, Council of Canadians. “The recent announcement of voluntary ‘guiding principles’ confirms the fracking industry is worried about the growing opposition. But these voluntary guidelines set by industry are classic greenwashing.”

There is currently no federal legislation on fracking. Regulations on water and drilling permits vary from province to province. Oil and gas wells are exempt from the National Pollutant Release Inventory. Environment Canada reviewed chemicals used in the process in Quebec and the US and found that approximately half did not meet the Chemicals Management Plan criteria for further investigation.

Federal Cabinet ministers have been briefed by departmental officials on the dangers of fracking and federal studies on the practice are expected to be completed within 2 years. The lack of strict, consistent regulation on fracking adds to the pressing need for a moratorium until federal reviews are complete.

Fracking for unconventional gas is rapidly expanding in almost every province across Canada. In addition to making local water flammable due to methane pollution, there have been numerous occasions of earthquakes near fracking sites. Fracking wastewater at numerous sites in the US is too radioactive for water treatment plants to cope with safely. 90% of fracking worldwide takes place in North America.

Council of Canadians members and chapter activists have been at the forefront of local campaigns to stop this dangerous industry and protect their water from toxic chemical and methane contamination resulting from the fracking process. Also announced today, the Council has launched the Fracker Tracker, a web-map that will help track fracking threats across the country. The Council of Canadians is urging people from coast to coast to sign the petition to stop fracking at http://www.canadians.org/fracking.

The Environics Research survey was conducted by telephone among a national random sample of 2,000 adults comprising 1000 males and 1000 females 18 years of age and older, living in Canada. The margin of error for a sample of this size is +/- 2.19%, 19 times out of 20. Interviewing for this Environics National Telephone Omnibus Survey was completed during the period: January 5 - 15, 2012. Read poll backgrounder.
