bummer man, hopefully if that does come to pass it will take a long time like most things in government. i just don't have the bones to stock up on assault rifles and mags right now. not only that but prices would be really high from all other gun owners doing the same thing. oh wells, only time will tell.
also, diane feinstein just said that on day one of the new congress they are introducing bills in the house and senate to ban all future imports, sales, purchases, and possessions of assault rifles and magazines/clips that hold more than 10 rounds.
now before you pro gun people explode on democrats and blame them for trying to do something to prevent these massacres in the future, maybe blame the countless murderers who have killed people with these guns for fucking it up for all of you.
Well... hopefully you can drum up a bunch of cash so you can build your armory.
I might be mistaken... but this post kind of had a "nah nah na boo boo" tone to it.
i don't understand why gun owners are so against registering their firearms. not really sure how a national database is hurting anyones rights. i'm a hundred percent ok with registering everything i got.

the way i understand the bill, if you own one now you are ok. it just goes into effect on future purchases and sales etc. you are probably going to have to regester the AR that you already own so you do not get in trouble after the proposed law goes into effect.
if you think what I believe is stupid, bizarre, ridiculous or outrageous.....it's ok, I think I had a brain tumor when I wrote that.
i have no idea on how to stop random crazy people from killing innocent people. i wish i did. can someone tell me why gun laws work in canada and australia but they don't work in mexico? i keep hearing this " where i live they do this and we dont have gun deaths" what is it about your countries that makes your gun bans work and why doesn't it work in mexico? and why would it work it the u.s., and please don't say it will work in the states because it worked in my country.

cmon man, thats a little insensitive aint it?
What solution(s) would you suggest to try to slow or stop these horrific acts?
if you think what I believe is stupid, bizarre, ridiculous or outrageous.....it's ok, I think I had a brain tumor when I wrote that.

no it is not insensitive. i have been getting shit on here for my anti gun stance for years. and if the new law passes and is enacted, it is going to be liberals and democrats who the gun rights people are going to blame, when they should be blaming the individual shooters who got their assault rifles banned.
i blame the shoe bomber for making all of us have to take out shoes off at the airport, not tsa. if this guy did not try to bomb the plane with shoe bombs we would not have to take our shoes off.
i would first suggest limiting the amount of ammo one can purchase in a 7 day period. most of these crimes are committed with mass ammo purchases in the weeks leading up to the attacks. i would ban large capacity magazines, that way the shooter would have to stop and reload very often and they would have to get many many clips and they might not be able to carry all of that ammo without bags, etc, which would make them look suspicious to onlookers. i do not think that combat-ready weapons should be on the streets of america.

Then a group of punk pricks would attack a teacher by surprise in an empty hallway or a bathroom, steal the weapon and kill some kids or other teachers.

Taking it even further... do you think the situation would ever arise when some teacher might feel threatened for some reason (hyper-cautious) and use the gun in self-defence?

Excellent point. Another plausible situation. Bad idea all around. Locking school doors, windows, and any other entryway and have alarms for each door so there is an audible alarm at the door and at a central monitor panel is a start. I hate to think like this, but metal detectors now seem like a good idea so kids can't bring weapons into school. And have a guard/or security officer to log in/out every person who enters the school after school hours begin. I realize this would cost more money but I would be in favor of my local taxes going up a little to fund this.
Arming teachers and more gun control unfortunately will not stop tragedies like this from happening.

I agree ,my post was more directed at GTV's response to your post. Something has to give , somewhere. An honest frank discussion about where we are as a nation, where we could be and what we need to do to get there is in order.
Followed by the action to get us there.
Hopefully, as ACA gos further into effect, it will address some of the short falls in mental health care.

As he entered the building and killed the first two adults he then went to the office.
The school nurse was hiding under the desk. She could see his feet.
Am I alone really? I wish she had had a gun and been trained to defend defenseless children.
Sooooo.... Where and how would all these guns and ammo be stored in a school? In the classrooms with all the kids? Would the teacher have the keys to these cabinets on her keyring. Those never get stolen or misplaced, do they? Gunman about to enter classroom full of panicking children (and teacher) - fumble with keys, get to first cabinet, get gun, fumble with keys again, get to second cabinet, get ammo, load gun with ammo, - where's the gunman? He had time to kill all the kids as they had no guidance from an adult to try and ensure their safety while she was trying to get herself armed. She's probably dead too anyway.
Hi, just spent the last several minutes reading some opinions posted on the "MOVING TRAIN" and I can't believe what I'm reading on some of them. I'm a Canadian Pearl Jam fan, I grew up in a small farming community just north of Montana. We owned several firearms back then, but we never felt we needed to go out and purchase handguns or automatic assault rifles. After I left home and moved to a city more than 30 years ago, I really felt no need to own a firearm.
What is this need that Americans feel to protect themselves? If you find that you are living in an area where you and your family are threatened in some way, MOVE!! RELOCATE TO A BETTER NEIGHBORHOOD!!
If I could somehow have Charleston Hesston brought back to life, I'd like to pry that gun out of his "cold, dead, hands" and smack him across the side of the head with it.
I would have thought that most people who frequent this forum would be somehow politically like-mined, but I guess there will always be that segment of readnecks and gangster wannabees out there.

It's such an asinine idea. I would quit my job if they started instituting this at colleges.

It is terribly bad. I think the element of surprise and the actions necessary would make it very unlikely they could stop this kind of thing in time. There are also, what 1,000,000 teachers? I am sure many of them are irresponsible, untrustworthy, maybe have mental issues. I would think that we would have at least as good of a chance of a suicide in front of the kids, a teacher snapping, a teacher taking their firearm for a violent action, or an accidental shooting of someone who was misidentified as an intruder
I dont think this will ever, ever happen, but if it did, I would seriously have to evaluate if I want my family living here anymore.

i agree, i got that impression too. the polls over the weekend are supporting tighter gun laws.

I'm not trying to pick a fight. Have you had a change of heart?
I sense that you are not really opposed (or at least not strongly opposed), but if I recall and am not getting people mixed up... I thought you were against gun legislation?
i have no idea on how to stop random crazy people from killing innocent people. i wish i did. can someone tell me why gun laws work in canada and australia but they don't work in mexico? i keep hearing this " where i live they do this and we dont have gun deaths" what is it about your countries that makes your gun bans work and why doesn't it work in mexico? and why would it work it the u.s., and please don't say it will work in the states because it worked in my country.
Good question going. I do live in Canada i don't know why its doesn't work in america or why it works in Canada. from my point of view which can be viewed as narrow is that we just don't understand why people need guns. We don't live in fear of being killed or not people taking our stuff. America I believe is a very fearful nation. They are afraid of what is unknown. They don't seem to have their priorities straight.
America is a very young nation when you think of it.
I just remember back in the 90's Radio head released a music video and in that video that was a topless woman and also a man that was dismembered. It was cartoon btw. MTV in America asked radio head to cut the scene of the topless woman out where in Canada we had a problem with the dismembering.
i am strongly opposed to children getting mowed down with guns, but i am strongly for gun ownership. i don't really care about gun legislation getting passed, none of it should affect me if i make certain purchases in a timely fashion. i still believe it won't stop death, i wish it would, but i don't think it will.
i would be against legislation straight up banning all guns unless it was guns, cars, tobacco, alcohol, and other major killers all together.

The only thing I can say to this is that a gun's sole purpose is to kill and the others you list are not.
