Gun crazy America. So many people say, "We need guns to protect ourselves." Well, what about creating a world where that kind of shit isn't necessary?

Most of us agree: remember the victims, don't give the killer what he wanted.

Using similar logic, let's get out of gun mode and focus on solutions to the insanity.

  • - Gun sales only through registered gun dealerships (no gas stations or conveniance stores)

Wait a minute now! So you're saying I wont be able to buy a loaf of bread and a shotgun on my way back from work?? :fp:
Give a monkey a brain and he'll swear he's the center of the Universe...
  • it depends on the scenario, if it was like a mass letter was sent out to the people saying you need to turn in your guns, i would call the police and say my guns were stolen then hide them(which would be illegal). if they came to my house like no knock warrant style, it's easy to say i'd blast them, but more than likely i'd be frozen still. and yes i only obey laws that i find to be just.
well, tomorrow,if someone shoot and kill your loved ones, dont call the police to catch him...
ask him first if he like the laws about killing and be murderer..
if he agree that need to pay for his crimes, call together the 911

  • well i'd be much more up for banning if the governement banned everything that killed people. otherwise it's just a bias agenda against guns, imo of course

    Wow.

Those guns mean that much to you, huh?

A rifle or a shotgun wouldn't suffice? You need a handgun or assault rifle that badly that you would leave the innocents at risk? You don't think laws intended to keep harm from touching the lives of schoolchildren at school or movie goers at theaters to be just?

If this is a prevalent mentaility... your country might be too far gone. I'm wasting my breath.
if you think what I believe is stupid, bizarre, ridiculous or outrageous.....it's ok, I think I had a brain tumor when I wrote that.
  • no i don't find it just. I didn't kill any little kids, thoughts never crossed my mind. how is me turning in my guns protecting any school children? i'm not a criminal. i want to save lives, the thing is, i don't want to save the lives of just people shot by a gun. i have a broader spectrum than that. so you want me to turn in my guns? cool i'm done with that, but i would need everyone to turn in their cars, their alcohol, their tobacco, their knives, their ladders, and any other object thats responsible for taking human life. i mean if we're gonna save lives then lets save lives, not just pick and choose who gets to live and die.

and you dont find a law that requires you to hand in your weapons as just?

  • see you're comparing murder to wanting to own a machine, it's very dramatic but doesn't really make sense to me. and short of catching a criminal in the act, the police aren't gonna catch shit usually.

Hmmmm. Interesting. People allowed to be selective with which laws they agree with and which they don't. Kind of like a buffet: "I'll adhere a little to this. Yuck- won't adhere to that. Oh... I love this law- I'll adhere strongly. Not having any of that law though."

It's a good perspective offered here, Dimi. One might say it's a little extreme... but who's to say their perspective is the 'correct' perspective? A democracy doesn't always cater to the individual. Sometimes, individuals don't get their way. As an example of this, look at all those begging for gun control!

    And one more time:

Chemicals often cause cancer. Chemicals are often used to "cure" cancer. That's often how we fight cancer. You hit something that is bad for you with something that is bad for you and hope it works. What about preventing cancer in the first place?

I hate making generalizations, but my experience is that people who love guns don't want solutions, they want guns.

What if gun owners were required to have liability insurance like car owners?

If we could wake up tomorrow and have every single gun gone from Earth...
poof none here, none to ever be made again.
None for the police, none for the military,
none for the criminal, none for the hunter, none for the collector,
    none for the family's protection.

    Poof gone.

    Who would miss them?

    Who would want them?

    Who would need them?

Who would get them anyway they could? Then who would have to get them too?
  • yeah like a buffet i like that. i don't kill people because i find it morally reprehensible, i don't rape women because i find it morally reprehensible, same thing with molesting kids, robbing people and other crimes that have a negative impact on people. and i do that, or don't do that as the case may be not because there are laws forbidding it but because i find it to be wrong. i smoke weed because the law prohibiting it is bull shit. which is exactly the way i would feel if there was a law requiring me to turn in all my guns.

Before we continue... let me say that I have no problem with you as a person. Our beliefs are different, but I recognize you are not a bad person.

Guns are a little more effective and efficient than knives though... wouldn't you say? I mean look at the results of the most recent 'mass knife attack' compared to the most recent 'mass gun attack'.

Of course such an agenda would be a little biased- targeting certain types of guns. But not completely biased- allowing for citizens to own 'appropriate' guns (the ones that allow for hunting and, to some degree, protection).

I just don't get it. I just can't get my around the fact that some seemingly reasonable people would argue steadfastly for their right to possess advanced weaponry and allow their neighbours to do so as well. I'm missing something. I clearly need to be able to see the other side of this argument... but it's not within me to do so. I'm trying though. I must be stupid.

  • let's say fairy dust rained down on every gun and bullet on the planet and made them disappear. the first thing that would happen imo, would be every person who knew how to make a gun would start making guns again which would be outrageously priced and only bought by the rich and governments, there would be power struggles and new lines drawn and we would slowly work our way back to having hundreds of millions of guns across the world.

Except the only problem with that mentality is that you are capable of making the right choices. It's fair to say that there are others that are not. A slippery slope here.

The NRA are a bunch of fucks.
Morons trying to make a country paranoid.
Cannot believe how they can wield so much power and influence on American politics.
I hope Obama stands up to them.
The proof that guns are bad is in the bar graph I saw on the news this morning, the USA gun related homicides are way above that of other countries in the world (including Australia) that have restrictions on guns.

i would change your second line to morons preying on a paranoid country. other than that i agree
  • dude you're not stupid, i admire that you are so passionate about saving lives. my feeling as a gun owner is just that no matter what you do, what laws you pass and what you ban, there are still going to be people with guns commiting violence against other people. so you're essentially saying to tens of millions honest regular people that a few bad apples spoiled the barrel for you guys. and that doesn't matter to you, because you yourself don't like guns so in your mind it's like how could anyone be against that.

well i'd be much more up for banning if the governement banned everything that killed people. otherwise it's just a bias agenda against guns, imo of course

  • yeah running a red light can have a negative impact on another persons life, you make a list of laws and i will tell you which i would obey and which i would not. if you believe a person should obey every single law regardless of what it is, then my friend you should move to america because the politicians here would really love you.

  • i don't smoke just because the laws a joke, i smoke cuz i like, i'm just not seeing how i could change my mind about rape and murder, i mean killing someone trying to roll me or my family yeah, but not just randomly killing innocent people, and rape, i mean i can not see any situation that would warrant rape. my thoughts on those are about as likely to change as yours are
