so,what needs for some things change to constitution ?
what needs the president or the congress to do??

300 years ago wroitten a constitution and that it??you die with it..
its almost 2013..if something needs to change for the safety of the people of America,..things must change

Dimi - the constitution has been amended numerous times already (around 30 amendments or so). There is a process for that.

Even this 'god given' right to bear arms that pro-gun people seem to be going on about - did you notice that they speak of the 2nd amendment? The word 'amendment' in a right they say cannot be changed!!!! How ironic is that???

Now, if these people were to go back to the original 'clause' to bear arms is was for militia. Well.. fair enough, that is the inherent right. Let them join the militia (ie army, navy, air force - whichever they want) and they can bear arms to their little heart's content.

If one is going to go with what is already an amendment to the constitution, they can only accept that this constitution can be changed.

    Common sense.

Heard this on the news this morning, some NRA guy said that.
    What a dick.
    ...
Again.... if anyone really believes this... is THIS the America we want? Where our first grade children have to have armed teachers in the classrooms?
That sounds more like fucking Afghanistan. Is that what we really want our children to bear?

Precisely. I said it earlier in this thread but I'll say it again. I have worked in a school with every door in the building locked with metal detectors and an armed police officer patrolling the halls. It was a horrible way to work because the teachers and admin. were the wardens and the students (children!) were the inmates. That's not America land of the free and home of the brave. Certainly not an America I want to live in and not the school I would send my own children to.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

What do you think of when you drive through that part of town where there are bars on the windows and doors?
Me... I think, "Whoa... I should look for the main thoroughfare that gets me on to the freeway because this probably isn't where this city's 1 percenters live". Prejudice? Hell yeah. I admit it, bars on windows never means a goood thing. It means you are either trying to keep bad people out... or keep bad people in. Not something I want to be a part of.
I don't see how this would make our kids feel any safer. It just tells them that they need to be caged for their own protection.

  • If the pilots and citizens on 911 had guns that would not have happened. Good old NRA, guns are the answer to all gun problems.

Why do stories like the Rodney King riots come up. If the cops would have got what should have been coming to them, there would have been no riots. But of course in the good ole U S of Eh?, they no not of a good thing when they see it.

I wonder how the NRA feels about US soldiers getting killed with exported US made guns?

Scotland had a Primary School mass-shooting as I'm sure you're all aware... Dunblane.

We had mass grief, mass empathy and a massive impetus to provide a solution.

    we banned all handguns.

consequently we havent had a mass shooting since.

    That was 16 years ago.

in less than 16 months this will happen again in America.

seems to take them a while to catch-up.... we got rid of segregation (if we ever had it) some 200 odd years before the US did. Military style assualt weaponery will get banned in the US. Which is a start at least.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

how about we let people have all the guns they want, but we tax the hell out of the ammo for semi and automatic weapons and assault rifles? price them out of your average person's budget. tax these bullets at 500% or something. also tax the hell out of the importing and exporting of these round and ammo. it will cut down on mass shootings, and it will raise money for the government and everybody wins.

with the money from the high tax on ammo the government can set up a trust to pay for funerals of victims and a stipend for surviving family members, and also lifelong health expenses for those maimed by assault rifles in mass shootings. that would include mental counseling for victims in addition to physical medicine and rehabilitation. that way the government generates revenue and the victims get some sort of assistance to help deal with injuries, physical and mental, that will last them a lifetime.

in my opinion, if people want to buy this ammo and keep this ammo, the ones that are going to use the ammo should invest their money into a fund to pay for those that they may injure, kill, or maim. kind of like an insurance pool or something. remember, i am not talking about your 22 bullets or bullets for dad's revolver, i am talking about assault rifles, semi and automatic weapons... if you want to avoid paying the tax, then you do not need to buy the ammo.

these are just my early phase thoughts for a potential solution.

    I agree with Speedy.
    Armed officers(not teachers) in schools.
The cat is out of the bag.
I've seen numbers that say 250-270 million guns in the U.S. alone.
Too many guns out there now and no gun legislation will change that. It's too late.
Sure, put laws in place. However in the meantime, things are still the same.
It will take years and years to implement and enforce.
Other countries are not the same as the U.S.
    Australia:23 million people.
    Scotland: 5 million people.
U.S.: 315 million people. You cannot compare.
Kids need to be protected.Unfortunately this is the case.Utopian dreams of "hand in your guns." Take away the bullets."are pure fantasy in reality.
I would have no problem putting my kids in a school with an armed policeman(retired or not).
To be quite honest, with that many guns out there I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.
    Thank God it doesn't.
But there are also many other factors, not just the gun issue. It's not that cut and dried.
Mental illness.Diagnosis,treatment.All this has to be looked at also.
It's a mess that will take a long time to correct.

It will not work. Many different types of firearms use the same ammo. How do you know what which it will be used in? Many shootings are done with a typical handgun but you guys still want to chase the bogeyman "assault weapon".

  • Nobody called anyone an idiot. A comparison was called idiotic.

Sesame Street used to have that great segment: "One of these things... isn't like the others":

If one lumps guns in with other 'major killers' such as pools, tobacco, and cars... can they expect to be taken seriously? And just because someoen has an opinion... does that mean it has to be respected no matter what?

Nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade.

American is so unique not only in size but culture, history, economics, role in the world
really apples and oranges as far as comparisons to other countries.
Our country is based on personal freedoms. Founded on that. We are young,
powerful, ancestors displaced and placed here for a reason.

I think it would be far easier to accomplish banning all guns for citizens to own if
it was a small country the size of one or two of our states.
I do not see that happening here ever, at least not in my lifetime, 20 more years.
Well unless it is forced upon and not freely chosen by the people
which is why some choose to own. It is our freedom. It is not our freedom to kill
but it is our freedom to own a gun. We are the land of the free.
    We are not killers.
