  • Hey dimitri?
Where are we getting the guns?

All told, European Union members shipped just under a million handguns to the United States in 2010. Their domestic markets may be limited by gun control, but Europe’s small-arms makers can still get rich, and create jobs, thanks to the Second Amendment. Who knew?
    true...
i work in gun made in usa..F-16 fighters
seems usa gave me a job..

no shit..guns is a huge market..
but from the moment usa is number one in shooting and innocent people die, seems that something is wrong..

hand in your weapons or you go to prison, and your goal is to stop violence. can you just think about that for a second. give that ultimatum to the american people and you will see violence like you have never seen before.

i gave an alternative to going to prison.. did you miss that?

The guns will remain in peoples hands.

What gun laws will take away the 80 million or so guns that are already on Americas streets?

the law that says hand in your weapons or youre going to prison*. you put restrictions in place and if those restrictions are broken then you bring down the full force of the law. this really isnt rocket science speedy but you keep throwing up these obstacles cause you see the situation as hopeless. hows about little steps to a big end result.

    * or a fine... whatever works.
I dont see anything as hopeless.
For some reason, this morning, you and I are having a difficult time communicating.
    Oh well.

well speedy i asked you to help me see the point you were trying to make and as yet you havent addressed it. without direction from you im struggling to see your point

  • yes you are exactly right, people don't want to come to the realization that no matter what law you pass or what you ban, guns will always be here and always get into the wrong people's hands.

  • You don't fight fire with fire. You drown the fire with water.

People cannot do anything about many of the guns that are already there. Gun legislation would not fix the proliferation of guns already in place. At the moment... you're fuked. But in time... you would see a change in the absurd and exaggerated gun death statistics.

I see gun legislation for you looking something like the following:

    - Assault rifles and hand guns illegal (except for police, military, bonded security, etc.)
    - Turning in assault rifles and handguns (penalties for not doing so)
    - Ammunition sales for handguns and assault rifles illegal (guns not turned in cannot work the way they are designed without ammo)
    - A thorough background check for potential licenses for rifles and shotguns
    - A wait period before the issuance of licenses
    - Gun sales only through registered gun dealerships (no gas stations or conveniance stores)
    - Criminal charges against any violations

I won't speak of any 'support' mechanisms that could be placed in effect that would have the effect of facilitating such a movement.

As I had mentioned earlier... with gun distribution under some level of control... you can begin to look at the other elements of this profound problem such as mental illness- in particular the underlying causes and treatment of.

You have experienced a new low. For the sake of the next lows... you must do something other than prepare to grieve.

All the gun control talk and nothing that would have stopped this from happening.

Not making our schools fortresses, not banning guns.
The only thing that would have stopped this would have been to stop
    this shooter.
This is the reality. A hidden gun in a school leader's hands could have.
A cop with a gun might have.
But for sure getting mental help for this young man would have.

And lets enforce the laws we have ... novel idea.
But no law would have stopped this guy.
We can not control what others do.

why are you all not listening. i told you we had this issue in australia. i told you what our govt did to counter it. its been a raging success. and yet somehow the united states of america isnt capable of the same thing? dont you all think your future is worth giving it a try? it is laws that regulate a society. you all need some new laws to deal with the gun issue... but you all also need a massive rejigging of the mentality that tells you guns are an american way of life... that somehow cause they always have been that they always will be. what a sad fuckin' defeatist attitude. you want this violence to change then do something about it. DEMAND from your govt.. the one you all voted for to represent the WILL OF THE PEOPLE to do something about gun violence.

You know... are you beyond looking past your nose? With legislation made 2 months ago... this incident might still have occurred. But with legislation, I can almost assure you that in 20 years... the Pearl Jam MT forum will not spit out another 60 page thread discussing yet another 'unfortunate' incident and another gun control debate.

For the benefit of future kindergarten classes, hiogh schools, movie theaters and other such places... get over your indoctrinated beliefs and embrace change.

Gun legislation is not the complete answer in one nice and tight bundle. But it's part of the answer. To deny this is ridiculous. RIDICULOUS. Don't play the fool.

    Wow.

Those guns mean that much to you, huh?

A rifle or a shotgun wouldn't suffice? You need a handgun or assault rifle that badly that you would leave the innocents at risk? You don't think laws intended to keep harm from touching the lives of schoolchildren at school or movie goers at theaters to be just?

If this is a prevalent mentaility... your country might be too far gone. I'm wasting my breath.

Gun crazy America. So many people say, "We need guns to protect ourselves." Well, what about creating a world where that kind of shit isn't necessary?

Most of us agree: remember the victims, don't give the killer what he wanted.

Using similar logic, let's get out of gun mode and focus on solutions to the insanity.

  • no i don't find it just. I didn't kill any little kids, thoughts never crossed my mind. how is me turning in my guns protecting any school children? i'm not a criminal. i want to save lives, the thing is, i don't want to save the lives of just people shot by a gun. i have a broader spectrum than that. so you want me to turn in my guns? cool i'm done with that, but i would need everyone to turn in their cars, their alcohol, their tobacco, their knives, their ladders, and any other object thats responsible for taking human life. i mean if we're gonna save lives then lets save lives, not just pick and choose who gets to live and die.

Hmmmm. Interesting. People allowed to be selective with which laws they agree with and which they don't. Kind of like a buffet: "I'll adhere a little to this. Yuck- won't adhere to that. Oh... I love this law- I'll adhere strongly. Not having any of that law though."

It's a good perspective offered here, Dimi. One might say it's a little extreme... but who's to say their perspective is the 'correct' perspective? A democracy doesn't always cater to the individual. Sometimes, individuals don't get their way. As an example of this, look at all those begging for gun control!

    And one more time:

Chemicals often cause cancer. Chemicals are often used to "cure" cancer. That's often how we fight cancer. You hit something that is bad for you with something that is bad for you and hope it works. What about preventing cancer in the first place?

I hate making generalizations, but my experience is that people who love guns don't want solutions, they want guns.

If we could wake up tomorrow and have every single gun gone from Earth...
poof none here, none to ever be made again.
None for the police, none for the military,
none for the criminal, none for the hunter, none for the collector,
    none for the family's protection.

    Poof gone.

    Who would miss them?

    Who would want them?

    Who would need them?

Who would get them anyway they could? Then who would have to get them too?
