There's also the problem that children need to feel safe and relaxed to learn. A school where teachers and guards walk around with guns would probably not feel safe to a kid!

it would not have happened if this douchebag did not get a gun too...

fact is, the mom was the responsible gun owner and her son took her guns and killed her and 20 + other people.

the argument of more guns being necessary for security does not hold water and it is pure conjecture.

  • Asinine. Just sheer stupidity.

I prepared something more elogant... but deleted it. I mean, what the hell can you really say about something so moronic?

Why can't we go one step further and say if nobody had any guns to begin with... the massacre wouldn't have happened?

The irony of such a stupid remark is that it is consistently one of the key arguments gun lovers put forth in the defence for resisting legislation.

The NRA are a bunch of fucks.
Morons trying to make a country paranoid.
Cannot believe how they can wield so much power and influence on American politics.
I hope Obama stands up to them.
The proof that guns are bad is in the bar graph I saw on the news this morning, the USA gun related homicides are way above that of other countries in the world (including Australia) that have restrictions on guns.

This is asinine. I have no secure place in which to lock a gun, even if I wanted to. What would happen if some kid knew I had a gun in my desk? Then all those metal detectors everybody wants to install in schools would be unnecessary as long as they knew what teachers actually, legally, had guns inside the school. And kids should feel safe with their teachers not be afraid that a crazed teacher or another student could snap at any time and grab a gun. Let's address the real underlying problems in our society instead of continuing to sweep the problems under the rug.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

  • It's just so absurd. Why would ANYONE need a gun! It's just insane! All guns should be melted and shaped into showels and flowers should be planted. Guns wohooooooo! Let's get guns and shoot everyone in the face wohoooooooiooo! Fuck! Why do people have to be so stupid!

  • The NRA needs to show a little humanity and compassion and let people grieve. Let people grieve the loss of these lives before they start freaking out about the possible loss of their rights to own an inanimate object that was used as the very tool in these killings. It's this kind of stuff that makes it really hard to hear anything they have to say.

The thought isn't exactly wrong. We have started to arm pilots for the exact same reason. Arming a teacher may not be the precise right answer, but why was there no adult present that was capable of protecting these children?

Almost every school near me has it built into their budget for at least one officer to be there during school hours.

Nice possible parallel except that very very few pilots actually carry in the cockpit because the fear of accidental discharge in that environment outweighs the very small chance of a hijacking.

Maybe the schools SHOULD have more security than the airports.
I have NO PROBLEM with that.

Most of the schools near me that have a SRO are ones in which danger is expected primarily because of the location of the school or known dangers perpetrated by the students. These are usually high schools with known drug traffickers and gang members. Do we really want to live in a world where we have to implement extreme measures to protect our children? Perhaps a better discussion to have is one that begins to address the root causes of all these problems. We are not living in an environment that is the best for developing empathetic people. We are raising narcissistic children that lack any empathy for others.

i would have a MAJOR problem with my children being in an environment where there were firearms. i mean shit... i have a MAJOR FUCKIN' problem with me being in an environment where there are firearms. but for me at least this whole issue is moot cause my citizenry is not armed. it is a right we do not have and for that i am thankful. the mindset has to change where MORE firearms is the solution to a problem that is more cultural than it is about actually being armed and having that as a god given right.

not all school districts have that type of funding to start.

But I wonder what your district is protecting students from? What was the reason for implementing this plan of action?

In my district its to prevent violence FROM the students and other teenage thugs(wanna be gangsters).

Mike ,must be a better solution...
cos isnt the schools only..is the movie theaters, the malls..everywhere there is danger..
need to limit down that danger and not make all the places of the country with fortresses

What ever the fuck it takes to make those children safe.
If it needs to be police presense, then so be it.

    Is there a better answer?
I truly dont know at this point.
But those school children, FIRST and FOREMOST, need to be safe.

heres the thing tho speedy... my children are safe when they go to school. my biggest concern is that they dont jig or that i dont get a call from the vice principal informing me of some minor infraction one of my kids has done. i never have to worry about my kids being shot at or having to huddle in the corner of their classroom. why is that you think? is it cause there is an armed police presence at my childrens school?

Our children, here in America are not safe.
    That is a fact.

I am missing something here. Please explain why YOUR children are that much safer? If it is because there are no guns where you live, then YES they are safe. Problem is, here in America, there are 200 million guns out there. We cant change that fact. All the gun laws in the world, wont change the fact that there are 200 million guns here.
