Incredibly short-sighted line of thinking. Ridiculous to be honest.

So... in the same vein... only those that contributed to an education fund can access the buildings being designed by architects and engineers... or visit doctors... or...?

    Moronic.

But we either pay or are being paid to be in those buildings or access those services.

But you're not a stakeholder. You have made no investment in the future of your country and society. You are promoting something that would make 'leeches' of people: "People. Go reproduce. Raise your children at great expense so that I might benefit greatly when they come of the age to offer me a service!"

If not moronic... then self-serving. Which is worse?

It's worked for colleges in this country for pretty much....ever.
  • Holy crap do I need tutorial on using this site.

You can only imbed 3 quotes within each other.

Okay. So wtf? How do I get around that?

Further... how do I quote the 'exact' portion of statement that I wish to respond to?

Someone... please... help a brother out!

So what are you saying? The school system is a shitty investment? Come on man... get serious.

I said in an earlier post: instead of expecting 5-6 years of university to certify... why don't you change certification to a 2 year program at any old community college/ drop wages significantly/ and see how that works? It's safe to say many people would become disinterested in pursuing such a career- you wouldn't exactly be motivating people to jump right into teaching. But think of the upside- you could keep more of those tax dollars you spend on the future of your nation for yourself. More six packs, more Pearl Jam stickers, more bullets for your guns!

Good call. Way to think of the bigger picture!

And I'm paying a ton for medical. Should I adopt the attitude, "Hey, we have no sick kids or people in our family. Make the sick people pay for their own bills. Why should I pay?"

No. I make enough. I'd obviously like to have a bunch more, but I have enough. I'm willing to contribute my share for the betterment of society.

Did you see what those fucking asshat striking teachers did downtown today?

So let me get this straight...

These so called educators went on strike today, forcing parents to either pay for some type of care, or miss work all together. Right?

THEN they educators went downtown and marched on the fucking streets, basically shutting down the loop, and bringing the public transit service to a shutdown for HOURS. Right?
So the parents who were actually able to make it to work this morning downtown, couldnt get home to pick up there children, because the asshole teachers decided to turn The Loop into total chaos. Right?

I would have had the Fire department hose them down. then I would have handcuffed the assholes and charged them with jaywalking, loitering, causing a public disturbance, and any fucking thing else I could have charged them with.
    Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
  • Who paid for the 20,000 ridiculous red shirts those educators were wearing today?
Who paid for the 20,000 picket signs those educators had on their hands?

Yah. Those teachers just dug picketing. They were out to annoy everyone.

How dare they bring the Loop to a stand-still like they did?
Where the fuck do they get off?
I would file criminal charges against them.
Re-Routing the Public Transportation because of these educators?
    Closing down the Loop?

    In all honesty..
I truly wanted to know who paid for the pretty red shirts.

    The teachers themselves?
    The union?
    Combination of both?
    You?
    Me?

    It was an honest question.

  • Oh. And you haven't insulted multiple people on this board with your hate-filled, teacher bashing posts? You asked a really dumb question on a forum that expects a little more from its contributors. Sorry I wasn't a little more sensitive with my response.
I havent personally insulted anyone here my friend.
    But you have.

Well, I've been called much worse without having my feelings hurt. Earlier you were talking pretty tough with the 'I better not be driving by any of those picketing idiots or they'll be taking me away in cuffs' comment. Didn't think much of my response to be honest- I was kind of coming down to your level- you had been spouting off a ton of hate-filled, non-objective stuff. It got to be a little much for me.

So until someone tells me different...
I believe it was paid by their union dues, you fricken idiot!!!

i would assume the union leaders arranged it, with all funding being paid by teacher's union dues.

perhaps if we lowered union dues, schools would have more money for schooling :corn:

of course, union dues are paid from their salary, which is tax funded....so you could say the tax payer paid for those shirts. :corn:

Another question from the 'fricken idiot"

Where do the chicago public school children rank nationwide?
    As far as testing?
    Reading levels?
    Math scores?
    8th grade overall?
    12th grade overall?
Where do the school children rank?

And then one more question from the "fricken idiot"

Where do the TEACHERS rank as far as average salary, nationwide?

  • On the most recent federal skills test, Chicago students fared worse than students in many other urban districts, such as Austin, Texas, and New York, although they did slightly better than students in Los Angeles and Washington.

In math, fourth-graders in Chicago scored 224, below the big-city average of 233 and the national average of 240 on the National Assessment of Educational Progress. In reading, Chicago fourth-graders scored 203, compared with an average big-city score of 211 and well below the national average of 220. Results were similar for eighth-graders.

    20,000 picket signs..At $1 a piece?
    Re-routing public transportation
Law enforcement needed to manage crowd control
    Closing down the Loop
The parents who were forced to miss work yesterday
The parents who had no choice but to spend money, for some type of care for their children, so that the parents could go to work

Those teachers had a BIG DAY Yesterday!

i asked how you suggest handling that because test scores is a b.s method of doing that.

    Why?

Now, it shouldn't be the only thing, but shouldn't it be part of it? Why are you teaching them?
i'm teaching them to help them become successful members of society. Certainly not to pass a test. Secondly many factors come in to play. The students at my school tend to perform horribly on the state tests and it has little to do with the efforts, hard work, dedication, skill or professionalism of myself or any other teacher in my school. Its completely unfair to assess my performance based on these test scores.

I really don't get this. Lots of jobs people depend on their abilities to get others to do something in order to be successful. They don;t have total control, but they have some. An operations manager relies on people to perform to meet goals. If they don't, that ops manager loses his/her job. Safety manager relies on everyone making the right choice all the time. They don;t even pay the people's salaries and still has to figure out how to influence them to do the right thing. They don't, that safety manager loses his/her job.

Why should a teacher be different? Why shouldnt they be held accountable? Obviously lots of measures to consider, but the success rate of the kids is certainly an important one.
