Quite a night! A fun time was had by all. There were a lot of hits played, but I don't blame them. A festival like that was no place to 'test' the crowd. They came out and just annhilated the set! I didn't see any other bands. The pre-part was a lot of fun. met some really nice awesome people and had $130 worth more drinks and shots after the pre-party officially ended. Took one of those bicycle taxis to the show, had just enough time to geet beer and hit the porta-john before GO rand out through Phiily. Great night. Was nowhere close to the stage but it didn't matter. We all stood under a tree, not in a crowd, had plenty of room to move around, sing along, spill beer, and take pics of the jumbotron.
Id never be able to do that.
Youre at a concert, dont be satisfied with a jumbotron.............

Well we were at a table towards the bathroom for most of the day...but we were hanging out over by the entrance for awhile, not sure if you saw us...I was wearing a red dress and have the stickman tat on my shoulder..can't remember what Becky or 81 were wearing because I'm not very observant, ha! Bummer we difn't get to meet you!

PJ's set was what I expected, definitely a collection of greatest hits (with the exception of WMA they didn't play a single tune off any of their first 5 albums that hasn't gotten serious radio time) with a few other treats.
The rarities were cool, Love Reign O'er me was another highlight, I've seen it live three times now, & just realized they've only played it 20. . . . . damn, I'm a lucky f'er! Overall I wasn't too surprised by the set, but loved it all the same.
I thought the band's energy was awesome, & I loved Go as the opener, it definitely started the night off with a bang. Rearview Mirror was incredible, & yeah. . . . everyone here is spot on about Mike McCready - that dude was ON from the get go, channeling some serious $hit through his guitar. I'm awestruck as usual.
The 99 Problems collaboration was actually a low point for me. I'm glad they tried it, I would rather see my favorite artists try something new & fail as opposed to doing the same old same old. Not that they failed at this in particular, but it didn't make my night like it did for some others (to each their own).
I tried to read all of the posts on this thread but could have missed some. . . . . . . Am I the only person who thought Eddie looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there during the collaboration? Every time the camera was on him he looked like he wasn't enjoying himself. That was my impression at the time, but I could have misread his expression(s).
And for what it's worth, anyone who thinks that song is about a Police Dog should call me about some property I'm selling down in Florida. I don't care if your source is a biography, Eddie Vedder or even Jay Z himself, I'm not buying it.
Now that I have my negative review & cynical rant over with, I have to say this weekend was nothing short of phenomenal. My ultimate hope going into this thing was that PJ would deliver a kick ass set to make up for all the other crap I had to go through this weekend, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved the different acts & diverse crowd.
Skrillex. . . . .I don't know what the F a Skrillex is, but the kids seem to love it, his set was one of the weekend highlights for me, it was pretty amazing. (the music did nothing for me, but the crowd was really into it, I enjoyed the energy)
Passion Pit was better than I expected & I really liked the Dirty Projectors & Gary Clark Jr. Lots of other stuff, too much to mention, but overall I'm glad I made the trip. The music kicked my ass & left me wanting more, and now my buddy realizes why I go to the lengths I do to see PJ Live.
One more thing: The freakin' venue, are you kidding me? Playing in front of the Philly Art Museum?
Priceless, f'ing priceless.
Pearl Jam concerts are something I look forward to from the time I purchase my tix and then reminisce for months after. Can't wait to get the bootleg for this concert and relive the whole event.
After a few songs I found myself disappointed in the choice of songs, then I realized how spoiled PJ has made me over the many years of concerts. I EXPECT rarities and always want them to fulfill the missing song on my bucket list. Once I realized how silly my disappointment was, I let the sound and energy from the crowd and the band wash away any negative thoughts and I completely enjoyed the show.
I can't say enough about what a great event this was overall. I was a little unsure about the mix of people and different types of music. I have been to a few Lollapalooza's (when they used to tour) - starting with the year Pearl Jam was involved and they were always a diverse mix of music, but the crowd at this concert was the most mixed crowd I have seen. Peaceful, friendly - just a great mix of people having a blast! Made me love Philly even more - hope PJ feels the same and hope to see them here again ASAP!!!
I kinda was hoping that all the artists would come out for RITFW. Idk why but just kinda thought that would be really cool. We all seen RITFW a thousand times but with RUN DMC, DRAKE, JAYZ, or anyone else just thought it would be a nice suprise.
Amazing sound for an outdoor festival. Gotta admit Jay-Z did a great job organizing this. Thousands of people but plenty of room. Everyone was chill. Pearl Jam was epic!!! Love the face plant Eddie did, lol!!! Go was electric, great start. Weather was even perfect. Perfect day/night.

RITFW has grown old. So that could have been a cool spin on it. As long as it doesn't turn out like that U2-fiasco.
"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"
Greatest hits show but still fun. Go is my 11th opener in 11 shows. WMA with Jay was awesome.
Agreed with most of that. Greatest Hits show for sure. But its good to get more exposure that way. Lets face it, that lineup was extremely diverse. I ended up meeting a guy that weekend dug Metallica, Like really dug em!
As a fan for many years it makes total sense to me. The more people are exposed to Pearl Jam then blah, blah.
The Jay thing I did dig it! Unfortunately myself and 2 buds of mine on here agree two things here 1) yea it would have been cool say 92-95 and 2) It sounded like Jay with his typical backing band.

If it did, I didn't see it - my girlfriend was up close and told me about it but we missed it!
He had a stage slide, a fall over an amp, and a slip after jumping near Jeff. He has to wake up all bruised .
i did see him picking himself up off the stage a few times (on the big screen) -- wasn't sure how he got down there but knew there was some serious energy on the stage that night.
I do not think this festival could have been more well done. I went to see Pearl Jam. I assumed it would be a greatest hits show since it was a festival. I was very concerned that I would not enjoy the rest of the festival as I was not familiar with the vast majority of the artists on the bill. I thoroughly enjoyed most of the acts I got to see. I am not a fan of rap or hip-hop but could not help but appreciate how much that music meant to many in attendance. People were singing along with the hip hop songs with the same passion Pearl Jam fans sing along to PJ songs. The vibe of the whole event was also very cool. Everyone in attendance seemed to be in a great mood and I did not see any problems at all. It was very cool to see so many people being exposed to Pearl Jam for the first time. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate the festival as a 10.
First PJ concert for me! Live Pearl Jam virginity = gone, plus it was my birthday! Loved the set, loved getting punched in the fucking face with Go as the opener.

Moving forward, it'll be hard for me to hear W.M.A. and not also chant "HO-VA, HO-VA..."
Of my 10-ish PJ shows, this one was a first on multiple levels:
- 1st show on the East Coast
- 1st show I attended solo
- 1st time at the pre-party
I couldn't have had a better time. Is it me, or are our boys just getting better with age? How Eddie still has a voice is beyond me; maybe that's why they don't perform Love Reign O'er Me all that much.
Special shout-outs to released1980 and pjwhip; it was great to meet you guys at the pre-party and swap stories, pictures, etc. Also loved Tanya Kang's PearlJamFanPortraits.com idea; I may have finally found my inspiration for my next tattoo.
As for the show...yeah, just another day at the office: rockin' their asses off, winning over new fans, playing newer material that sounds just as good as the old, etc.
The flight from Colorado was totally worth it. East Coast PJ fans, you're awesome. Cross your fingers for a Red Rocks show in our lifetime, and look me up when you get to Denver.

It is fun getting punched in the face!! As long as the fist is music by Pearl Jam sent from the fucking heavens!! I just listened to Go off the Live On Two Legs album, can't wait for the MIA boot so I can sit in my car with a case of beer and listen to it multiple times. I looked through this particular thread or whatever its called and I noticed a picture of someone who looked like you, so I clicked on it and seen the word Packers and was like yup, that's Shannon!!

"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
Hey hey my new crazy Pittsburgh friend! Awesome meeting yins...maybe it's a good thing I didn't watch the set with you guys because getting punched in the face doesn't sound very fun
"As long as the fist is music by Pearl Jam sent from the fucking heavens"....best quote EVER!
Haha yeah PJ & Packers...that's all I need. Crafty putting yins as your location, when I saw that I said that's Mark for sure!
Check your pms in a minute, I'm sending you a link I think you'll like.
