yes and all those guys that were too drunk to even stand up sure looked like they were having a good time. too bad they ruined it for those of us that were there to enjoy the show.
What a way cool festival, a diverse union of souls, the essence of rappers and rockers. It was well organized, easy to get to, and thought the sound was great. Was late in arriving so missed The Hives, enjoyed Jill Scott, loved Gary Clark Jr., checked out Drake - not my thing but appreciated the fans appreciating him. Didn't get the Freedom Tent, what I deemed as the "rave wave" but what the heck, to each his own. Would have loved to have gone on Saturday to experience Jay Z and check out Passion Pit to make it an "all encompassing trip".
This was my 21st show, hard to believe, and loved it like I love each and every show. They are all unique and contain the most incredible moments. My boyfriend and I decided to go a few days ago, so glad we ventured on down. The gents hit it home huge! Great energy throughout! There is always the excitement, the moment of anticipation and wonder of what will they open with ... the moment they come on, the electricity of the crowd, the immediate connection of welcoming the most amazing friends I've never met, the first note strikes and here we go, the journey of musical bliss begins! Dang, thank you Pearl Jam for being the most amazing band that speaks to the heart and soul, and brings a flow and awareness to life. Honestly, never would have made it this far without ya!
This was the farthest from the band I've ever been, and it was just as awesome. Feel fortunate to have had close seats here and there throughout the years and decided to hang "way" back, view the screens and take in the full blown sound from afar. As ya'll know, just being in the energy of the show is transformative, just enjoyed bathing in the sound, feel rejuvenated and recharged.
Thought Eddie sounded fantastic, loved his sharings, Matt I bow down - loved WMA - Stone, Jeff, Mike, Boom more love ...everyone was tight rocking and having a good time. Eddie you are the wise set list master ... so grateful to have attended this interesting diverse festival. Thanks for rocking it!
And side note ... later back at the hotel, we had a beer or two to come back down to earth and met some gents that were quite toasted that had been to Springsteen. Had no idea he was performing ... can only imagine the musicians musical party that occurred somewhere in Philly Sunday night ...
yes and all those guys that were too drunk to even stand up sure looked like they were having a good time. too bad they ruined it for those of us that were there to enjoy the show.
I am getting too old for this shit.
I honestly think that the trick to GA shows is getting there very early and hanging out in an area where it's very hard for someone to get drunk (too much time getting back and forth, not wanting bathroom breaks)

I agree. I have done quite a few GA shows for other bands, did the whole waiting since 4:30am to get on the front rail, etc. I think I am just not willing to do it any more. I am glad to read that so many of you had a great time. We enjoyed the show, just a little appalled at the things we witnessed going on.

Sorry to hear you had to deal with idiots. I was towards the back of the main stage for Saturdays acts, and a lot of the crowd were out of control. I'm so happy I got close and chilled with other die hard and respectful PJ fans yesterday.
Jay Z saved the day, this was one of the worst PJ shows I have ever been to, the setlist was too mainstream, and the hip hop crowd didn't even appreciate it and sing along. It was ranking right up there with the 2005 PNC park show, 2006 Cincy, and every Show they have ever played in Camden. But 99 problems was epic!
This was my first show in a long time (since PJ 20), normally that kicks it up a notch, but not tonight. I can only hope Deluna Fest is better.
It was a great show last night, wished for some non-hits but hey, it all sounded fantastic. Ed looked good, no sign of the back/neck problems he's had, but I was worried for him when he fell... And we were happily surprised to see how easy it was to get in and out of the city, and to park (a few blocks away, $11, seriously?? Manhattan this is not! )
I gotta say I felt old, for one thing just standing there and knowing that I've been a fan of this band for 20 years, but for another seeing just about everyone around me go crazy when Jay-Z came out and singing all the words. I admit to Googling the lyrics to 99 Problems today since I couldn't understand a word of it. I can't say this made me a rap fan, and in general I'm not a fan of any song with the word "bitch." I will say that I think Matt drummed the HELL out of that song. Jay seemed to look back at him a few times in appreciation.
As for GA issues: Happy drunks excited to have a night out to see their favorite band in the world are totally fine in my book. Messy drunks looking to start fights, shoving people just to get past them? So not okay. Oh, and the guy standing next to me now knows that pogo-ing while intoxicated is NEVER a good idea!
I had an awesome time at this festival. Different genres of music...Loved it.
Santigold was great! The Hives were very entertaining, lots of energy.
Jill Scott OMG what a voice! She defeintiely has soul. Eve showed up and sang Let me blow ya mind, which was a treat to see.
RUN DMC was the biggest highlight for me out of the ones I mentioned. Never saw them before so this was a big deal to me. It was nice how they honored Jam Master Jay by having both of his sons spin the black circle;)
DMC was wearing an Alice in Chains T-shirt (The cover of the self-title album Alice in chains) which I thought it was cool to see him represent.
Drake was okay. But over all his performance I didn't care. Some people left after Drake but still more people moved in to see pj.
Now for PJ:
I'm interested to know what song was played when they came out. I don't think I've heard it before. Anyone knows it?
I liked that they played for all who was in anttedance. I know we PJ fans would love to hear bsides and rarities but the band seemed to want to introduce themselves to those that don't know who they are or know a bit of them. Eddie messed up on some lyrics but hey that's the norm.
Go - Got me pumped
Do The Evolution - Stone was going crazy during this one. The band had intense energy.
Jeremy - This was a great version. Eddie's voice sounded great.
Know Your Rights - It was good but still think the uniondale version is the best
Black - As always beautiful! Seeing Mike on the floor playing his solo gave me goosebumps.
W.M.A - When EV was introducing the band and the rest of the band was playing the beginning of it I knew it was WMA. I started to say WOW! WOW! WOW! I got my camera and started recording. It didn't come out that great but still I'll cherish this moment forever. The experience of seeing this song on it's entirety was a wish come true. I've seen this as a tag but never the complete song. This made my night=> THANK YOU PEARL JAM! Hope you play it on your next tour.
Jay Z and Pearl jam together during 99 Problems was cool to see. But I wish it was a PJ song with Jay Z rapping some lyrics to it...That to me would have been EPIC. but regardless it was exciting to see PJ play with the founder of Made In America Festival.
Over all I'm happy to say I got my PJ fix...Until the next tour!
Pretty standard set list, but from the sounds of everyone it was a kick ass show and the band was tight and on fire. Jay on stage for WMA and 99 Problems had to be something special.
This is an understatement, but I'm copping for a show very very badly right now.

It was the The Good, The Bad and The Ugly music if I remember correctly. Maybe they were inspired by Mr. Eastwood's appearance at the RNC.

OMG! yes...was it that...lol.
I was telling my friend what's up with the cowboy music entrance...but it actually sounded cool.
Hopefully someone recorded it. If that was what inspired the band....TOO FUNNY!

The Ramones used it as their intro
Had a great time seeing them even if I lost left shoe trying to get a good spot. I found it right away after people started to leave once pj was over with. It smelt like beer and whatever else, but was glad not to be shoeless. As for the concert, it was just pure magic regardless if it was a hits setlist. I'm not really a fan of them, but seeing mike just pop the fuck off on all them made me appreciate them even more. Also know you rights was awful, they coulda done a much better job on it or did something from riot act or bianural
People around me were so chill and all, cept this big dude in a grey sweatshirt who decided to do ecstasy 5 min before and collapsed ontop of me. Hope the dude didn't die.
Jayz was a real treat and anyone that knows me knows I detest (c)rap.
it was great seeing the band again and seeing them again in philly was cool.
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
Just got home from the show this afternoon. What an amazing show as usual. Highlight for me was "Know Your Rights" I love the Clash and at the first strums of the guitar I started jumping up and down like a little kid, "Thet're playing the Clash! They're playing the Clash" W.M.A was badass too! Overwhelming feelings of joy fill my heart and soul. Thank you Pearl Jam for making my year! What an amazing show - worth every mile worth every penny as always. Much love, Stacey
So...I'm still mesmerized by last night's show. Only my third (sad, sad truth) but I arrived at 10 AM to guarantee a close spot, and I lucked out (and ran a 1/2 mile at noon) to secure the front right (Stone) side. Amazing day of music capped by one of the best musical experiences of my life. By Save You, my voice was almost gone but I just kept going. The energy was crazy, onstage and off - Eddie was rolling on the ground, sliding on the water, and the rest of the band was incredible start to finish. It was a festival so they played lots of popular songs. So what? They still included Unemployable (ps - soundcheck was unemployable, unthought know, fixer and reign o'er me) , Know Your Rights, and my personal pick-my-wish WMA, so there was a lot for the 30+ show people to love (and I should know, I was surrounded by them for 11 hours!)
When Eddie was giving out the tambourines, I thought 'Man, I hope I get one,' just like everybody else. Except I was front and center and he had just given two away to the left and two away to the right. There was a stagehand/roadie holding two more just offstage, waiting for Eddie to return, but instead he grabbed his wine bottle and, as others mentioned, rained it down on us. It was the closest he got to us (the security said he might come all the way down and run around but oh well). I got wine on my favorite shirt, but I was too happy to give a...
Now here's where it gets interesting. So the show ends and we're all shell-shocked with a smile. The guy next to me (who was the tall guy jumping around onstage during Santigold's set btw) starts trying to climb the barricade, pulling off his shirt. I look up and see Mike walking towards us, saying 'No, not you. YOUUUUU' pointing right at me. I look up and see him and he says 'Wanna trade shirts' pointing at my Bowie shirt and his NY Dolls shirt. Before I could properly consider the proposal, my shirt was off and thrown over the guard's head. His shirt landed in mine and I'm standing there, being stared at by everyone in the area, equally shocked by what's just happened. I was so stunned that I didn't look back to see if he put it on, said goodbye, etc. Foolish, I know, but I was too happy/tired/surprised to think clearly. One big fan asked to smell it so I let her. Then I put it on (I didn't have any other shirts!) Some people told me not to wash it, some people told me to frame it, I'm probably just going to wear it and love it (and try desperately to find that Bowie shirt...it's verrrry rare...Mike definitely got the better end of our trade, I assure you, although his shirt is amazing).
So, why am I telling you all this, other than to share fun stories? Why did I just pay for a loooong overdue Ten cc membership, partly because I couldn't post without one (analog, of course!)? Because, simply, I'm wondering if this is normal? Does he do this at shows ever/often? Does anyone else have a story like this? My first show was back in 1998 (Camden) and my 2nd was MSG final night but I was too far away to see if this happened. He used to trade rock pictures back in the day, I thought maybe he moved up to rock t shirts...just curious.
(No, it's not for sale. That's worse than regifting! and besides, for how much I loved the Bowie shirt AND how much I love PJ/and how last night made me feel, it might as well be priceless).
Anyways, it was an amazing show, to say the least. I'm still blown away, by the music, the fellow fans, the way being that close amplified everything for me, and the unexpected, completely sincere short exchange Mike and I had.
Favorite musical moments -
Save You - Eddie was completely in this song. Drake might be an 'actor' but Eddie knows how to get into the character of the song like no other. And it was infectious.
Unemployable - great at soundcheck, even better during the show. Like WMA (another highlight), it made sense, taking advantage of the situation to touch on what's going on this country.
DOE - What can I say? I felt like I was part of the choir. This is one of my favs to play so to watch Mike and Stone do it in front of my face was...
Spin - I wouldn't have minded if the entire two hours was all energy (no acoustic guitars, no slow tempos) because of how good songs like this made me feel.
I'm not a Jay Z fan - I sold my Sat ticket because there weren't' enough acts worth seeing that I hadn't already seen - but it made sense for him to come out and if him doing 99 problems is what it takes to get a WMA like that, then I'll take it gladly. I don't know the song other than the chorus but I've heard it relates when to WMA's message so that's a nice bonus (at least he didn't rap Big Pimpin or something...).
Overall - even though there weren't any No Code (Hail Hail...Off He Goes...Smile...) or Binaural (Insignificance, Insignificance, Insignificance...!), it was ridiculous. I know what my bootleg code's being used for (I think that's how that works, right?).
Feel free to respond, about the shirt stuff, the music, whatever.
What a great show! It really was much better than I was expecting...the band sounded awesome--WMA and Nothingman were pleasant surprises :-) We had a great little group of fans on the rail to the far left, Mike's side, and I had a blast...no voice left, sore calves, and Mike and I both got picks,so that means it's a great night for me!!
i had the best time sharing that little piece of rail with you! We all got Mike pics. we need to line them all up and I'll put a M.I.K.E. together ! You got the M right? I got the I. We need to do that. SOOOOO NICE being up there with you!
peace,

They played Jeremy tonight. You can tell Jeremy has become a festival song Out of the last 100 times played it has been played outside the USA 73 times. I thought I would justr share that little info about Jerremy
That's funny but you know what I've grown to love hearing it live, especially after they belted it out really well on Oct. 30, 2009 at the Spectrum. As far as I'm concerned, they can play that every show I attend.

Whatever you say about a greatest hits show, the way they DID the greatest hits was phenomenal. They were in tip top form. And added in some great versions of Know Your Rights, WMA, EvenFlow was to DIE for..thank you Mike! Amazing. And Black..OMG BLACK had me in a trance, just to say the least. I was in tears. And I don't care how much a fool I made, I was feeling the music like never before. Black, I think, was I think the most beautiful version I've ever seen.
Got the rail Mike's side to the left with a small group of friends, just lucky to find each other in the crowd.
Gotta say, this was the easiest time ever getting to the front. I didn't make the pre-party (really wanted to) and I didn't come into the show until right after Gary Clark (got to hear him from outside, selling an extra ticket, face value, of course, UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE)
I hung way back until Drake was done, and when the rapper crowd started moving out, it was a piece of cake moving up. Instead of packed sardines, the human traffic was moving, made it very easy to make my way up.
Ended up on the rail, left of Mike.....it was not, HUMID, even raining, and at the front we had a nice breeze.
All in all, it was MUCH more than I had expected from a festie set, and I think would rival any show (almost).
Mike was out of this world, Ed was top form, of course Jeff, Stone and Matt spot on, and above. Boom did a wonderful intro into Love Reign O'er Me, just wonderful. Ed playing rap guitar along with JayZ was not to be missed..he was having a great time! (my bad, i didn't know the song..omg! everyone else did  )
Lucky to have met JayZ out in front of the North Gate before the show (his film crew w him). Ron Howard cut across our line on the inside, didn't even recognize him until it was too late. DID recognize JayZ and he knew it whether he wanted to or not ...gosh that's one big guy...hadn't realized his size until I was looking him in the face. Glad I did recognize the man, if not his music
All in all a great time. Great friends. Great show. AWESOME MUSIC!
ANDANDAND ED DID SAY....See you again Next Year!
I hope he meant it
peace,

Hey! Yes, that's me! Thanks for the link. I can't wait to show my rail buddy! (Although he had so many cams on him, I won't be surprised if he pops up everywhere). I signed a release (oh, to hear that song again...) so maybe we'll be in the Ron Howard Jay Z vanity project...
I'm also trying to find some cool shots of Mike during the show, if anyone has any. And if Mike ever wears mine in concert, post it please!
And of course, if ANYONE knows where I can get another one of these shirts, I will be eternally grateful. There similar looking shirts on ebay and such, but not this one. Sigh...still worth it :P

Had a great time, and it was totally worth driving 12 hours each way (and through a lot of rain coming home yesterday). Yes, it was crammed into two hours, and yes, it was a hits-heavy set with very little I hadn't already heard in my mere seven previous shows, but the energy was through the roof. I loved that PJ opted to work with the "wing" video/light boards that were set up for Jay-Z's show, rather than just stick to stage lights and the jumbo screens; it really added a dimension to the show that served the festival environment well.
I thought it was interesting that when they ventured off the radio-hit path, they didn't play it safe (like doing album tracks from Ten, which many people own), and went with politics-heavy songs like "Know Your Rights" and "Unemployable." And the pairing of "WMA" with "99 Problems" was inspired; I loved the "WMA" bass line crawling under Jay-Z's flow. For those that weren't there on Saturday, another fun "99 Problems" note from that night: Jay-Z's band started with the regular instrumental, but shifted to playing "Eye of the Tiger" (from the soundtrack of Rocky III) under the verse. I thought it was a nice Philly nod.
And I agree with all that Mike was on fire. I definitely can't wait for this boot.
Strangely, of the eight PJ shows I've attended, this was the third to be held on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend (after Knoxville 98 and day 2 of PJ20). That's a strange tradition to be setting, but kind of fun.
Which part of my opinion would you like to dispute? That the setlist was too mainstream (lots of people seem to agree with me)? That the crowd was silent during singalongs (been to 46 PJ shows, think I have a baseline for crowd participation)? That it compared to other shows I have been to with mainstream setlists such as PNC Park, Cincy, and Camden (where you at all of those shows to compare?)?
For me, a show is like 95% setlist, and 5% other. Part of that 5% other is "band energy", if they are "on fire", it hardly changes my opinion of the show. I think PJ is always great live, so being "on fire" has almost no effect on how I rate a show. The best part about seeing PJ is when they play something rare, and since they are not polished at playing rare songs, they are never "on fire" when they bust out something like "education". I expected a lot of mainstream PJ, but since I was in town I went to see my favorite band anyway. I was hoping that they would at least throw in something new like "Ole" that I had never heard, or maybe some favorites like immortality or anything off of No Code. Hearing 99 problems was epic, but it was too little too late. Every PJ show is great, but this was at the bottom of my list of PJ shows.

I was hoping that they would at least throw in something new like "Ole" that I had never heard, or maybe some favorites like immortality or anything off of No Code. Hearing 99 problems was epic, but it was too little too late. Every PJ show is great, but this was at the bottom of my list of PJ shows.

yes and all those guys that were too drunk to even stand up sure looked like they were having a good time. too bad they ruined it for those of us that were there to enjoy the show.
I am getting too old for this shit.

This is an understatement, but I'm copping for a show very very badly right now.

I was blown away by so much of it. Being on the rail was a bonus, especially when Mike and Ed came over to the side and stood right in front of us.
The crowd around us were great....we sang our hearts out and there was energy everywhere!

It was the The Good, The Bad and The Ugly music if I remember correctly. Maybe they were inspired by Mr. Eastwood's appearance at the RNC.

Hopefully someone recorded it. If that was what inspired the band....TOO FUNNY!

Thanks! I found it. This is hilarious.
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
Feel free to respond, about the shirt stuff, the music, whatever.
i had the best time sharing that little piece of rail with you! We all got Mike pics. we need to line them all up and I'll put a M.I.K.E. together ! You got the M right? I got the I. We need to do that. SOOOOO NICE being up there with you!

That's funny but you know what I've grown to love hearing it live, especially after they belted it out really well on Oct. 30, 2009 at the Spectrum. As far as I'm concerned, they can play that every show I attend.

DID recognize JayZ and he knew it whether he wanted to or not
All in all a great time. Great friends. Great show. AWESOME MUSIC!
AND AND AND ED DID SAY....See you again Next Year!
I hope he meant it

95% set list? Why don't you stay at home and watch the set list thread instead
