Booya!
Elected officials in charge of this country acting like fucking children....that was really sad to see. I did enjoy Obama's zing at them.
While the applause was probably, to some degree, in jest...particularly after having sat for 45 minutes or so being told repeatedly that it is "my way or the highway". I'm sure that the Republican applause had nothing to do with the fact that Obama is a narcissistic socialistic asshole who, over the course of six years, continues to talks out both sides of his mouth, has shown that he does not have a leadership bone in his body, and has done his best to "change" this country for the worst with terrible ideas/policies/actions.
Let the tongue-lashing begin.
...signing off...
And there's exhibit A on why it is impossible to talk anything about politics around here. I'm no Obama supporter. I was just simply pointing out how sad it is that some of the GOP started cheering like they're at a fucking pep rally when Obama said that he didn't have any campaigns left to run. Even at the state of the union address, they can't show any respect for the fucking President ...very sad.
I think the lack of Respect is running both ways here. They just keep fucking with one another.0 -

Sure at a high level in a SOTU speech most of the things that presidents say, regardless of party, make sense to me, although I don't want to hear war mongering, and don't want to hear about multi-billion dollar tax increases. Who is opposed to better access to healthcare, better living wages, access to higher education, lessening reliance on foreign oil, etc...? Unfortunately there are plans and details behind these statements, and that is where we get tripped up. Some plans simply won't work, some plans are laid out knowing that they're not going to pass but will be the starting point for discussions and compromise, some plans are meant to help but in the end will not due to unintended consequences. So you're right that we should all want most of those things, but I'm guessing there will be vastly different opinions about how we actually achieve them. Starting with Obama's $320 billion tax increase in his coming budget proposal to help fund some of his plans.
On the face of it, as a parent of a college age kid, I love the idea of access to affordable higher education. But to pay for it Obama wants to take a program used almost exclusively by the middle class for education savings, and take away the tax benefits, effectively taking dollars from the middle class and sending it to community college administrators. WTF??
On the face of it, we want to close the loopholes in the tax code that help the rich avoid paying their fair share of taxes. But one of the things that Obama wants to change is the basis on which capital gains are taxed and the tax rate itself, and many of those changes will hurt the middle class far more than the rich (especially as it relates to any sort of property inheritance).
So you'll have to pardon me if I find the whole SOTU performance (all of them, not just this one) to be farcical and not really as common sense as it might appear."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080 -
