He makes an awesome speech

Being small business we are feeling the surge, maybe hiring again this year!
Having just refinanced our home, combining 1st and 2nd mortgages at 3.5 % HUD,
    closing today...
we are liking that interest rate!
Seeing the houses moving again in our community with ours on the market soon
this improvement keeps me very hopeful :D

I just wish we could come together as a country for each other, compromise and
get done what we need to be strong.

It is survival and that should be basic.

    great sales pitch !!!
my thoughts...this guy could sell salt to snails ! some of his stuff was great like the tax increase for outsourcing jobs and product mfg. but the bottom line for me...same old story same old song and dance, that's what all his ideas will ever be..a sales pitch and that's a shame because some of them are just what I wanted to hear.

    Very cool.
    hippiemom = goodness
  • I have a lot of respect for the President. Selling salt to the snails is good. The country needs a pep talk. I'm not a fan of those who try to assassinate his character. He has been nothing but diplomatic to opposing leaders to seem to get their joy from backstabbing him.

LOL Dont listen to what they say.......watch what they do! The State of Confusion Speech! How can anyone say that Obama is an honest man? This is the worst admin. i have ever witnessed! I grew up a liberal Democrat and I voted for Obama.....and I dont like him at all! I am now center-right along with the majority of this nation!
Give me a break...Obama has never been close to being liberal.
He's a centrist just like Clinton, the dem before him. A true liberal will never sit in the Whitehouse. A centrist will be the farthest left well ever see. Sadly, as the right gets further right...the center also moves...
That is true. Its like driving a car. We're ready to go over the cliff if someone doesnt make some major driving corrections soon.
  • No, thanks. This is always a waste of time (either party). The Democrats will cheer every policy announcement he makes while Republicans sit on their hands, everyone will cheer him lauding a service man/woman and some disadvantaged person he has sitting next to his wife, and this year will be a glorified political rally for his re-election campaign.

For this one in particular I do like how he's announced he's going to give a blueprint for how to fix the economy. 3 years in, and he's just getting around to this?

    So, how close was I?
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

Not a fan of Obama, but being able to witness would be an experience regardless of who is in office.

i wouldn't have spent all that energy just to be lied to in my face....
    don't compete; coexist

what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?

"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." - Barack Obama

when you told me 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em'
i was thinkin 'death before dishonor'

The bottom line is that the State of the Union Address is whatever we want it to be. As we are all trapped in our Jupiter-sized egos, we all believe that we have an incredible amount of knowledge at our disposal. In other words, we're all geniuses; we know everything. We went into the speech with our minds already made up. It didn't matter what the President had to say. if we want the speech to be lies, then the speech is a pack of lies; if we want the speech to be propaganda, then the speech is propaganda; if we want the speech to be inspiring or enlightening, then it is so.
Perception is reality; the world does not exist "out there" but instead in our own heads.

The sad reality is that for most who see this speech as propaganda, or "class warfare" or who simply dismiss it, if this speech was given by someone with an "R" next to their name they would feel differently.
We see in "Ds" and "Rs". there's no disputing that.
If after 3 years of a Republican administration that followed a disastrous Democratic administration that left us with 2 wars and an economic collapse, those who see our current situation as a failure would surely be singing a different tune.
This is not a defense of Obama. It is a defense of some type of intelligent discourse in this country. Sadly, I feel that intelligence in our discourse is impossible. Intelligence is something we lack.

I look at American society as a petty, un/misinformed mass of fools running around screaming "oh my god, I am going to die!" This is why we cling to mythology and fantasy. This is why we resign to live in the comfort of our egos, holding our noses up at any type of threat to our delicate egos. The unfortunate thing is as we hold our noses up, our brains are held lower.

We are all economists, political theorists, scientists, sociologists, anthropologists, historians. We have all the knowledge of the world in our puny little heads. As a whole, we are stupid. Those among us who have real knowledge, and who have abandoned their egos for a life of open-mindedness, selflessness, and cooperation are gems in a sea of mud.

Egos destroy civilizations. In this era of narcissism, greed, selfishness, narrow-mindedness, and self-righteousness, there is nothing more vile than the common fool.

    We hate therefore we are.

We talk and talk and talk and talk. Where is the action? Action takes effort. If we are so damn smart and so damn special, if our egos tell us that we should be in charge, that we should have a role in where this country, where this society heads, then why aren't we in a position of power. Excuses flow like waterfalls. Once again, our over-inflated egos take over.

Agreed until the above then it became the pot calling the kettle black.
American society may not be perfect but what society is? I love my country, wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Good question. The action often ends with the talk of the campaigns and the speeches.
No offense, man, but you are one huge cynical ball of negative energy.

I have never lived anywhere else, so I can't say that this is the only place I would rather be.
Pot calling the kettle black? I am a part of American society. Other societies are not my concern at the moment.

Regardless of what anyone has to say about Obama, he single handedly has more class in his one body than the entire GOP has in their entire party. Did anyone check out Boener making faces, rolling his eyes and general poor body language? I wanted to reach through the tv and grab his face and slap him silly!

class alone does not make a good president, I noticed more people then boener making faces and uncomfortable body motion and that tells me something...like maybe they see the real Obama in action or lack of, the camera panned on many people that you could just tell that they were not happy with Obama.

Yeah, that was the GOP which display absolutely no class nor willingness to get along whatsoever!! I'm glad you noticed what a bunch of miserable fucks they are too, Godfather.
