Damn this game I created for myself, so I may have missed this - but in talking about hiring vets (which I'm for in theory), did Obama mention providing quality treatment for all of the physical, psychological and emotional issues they deserve after having served?

I'm with ya, gimme. Even the cut-shots to audience members' reactions - theater indeed.

Also, I worry for everyone's backs come tomorrow with all those standing O's.

it is disgusting. nobody is buying this fake "respect" and "agreement" from the gallery. theater.

they won't have to worry about their backs. their healthcare is 100% free. paid by you and me. plus, it is not like they actually go to work in the house. they probably have the day off tomorrow.

Well fuck...I've not been watching raptly, but this seems like a quick-ass laundry list covering topics most people would support.

    Equal pay!
    Affordable education!
Get paid for the overtime you work!
    More jobs!
    Peace and free speech!
    Reduce pollution!

I feel like I'm being played. Would love to see a sincere, rhetoric-free speech from our president. He's can't be incapable of it.

As you two pointed out, gimme and hedo, a typical state of the union address dee dee dum dee dum..BUT at least the President came out strong on recognizing climate change/global warming- more so than I can ever recall. Only problem is, that part of the speech is 10 or 20 years late. Still, I hope it does some good.

And maybe 10 or 20 seconds' worth of words too. I don't discount the subject but it struck me as a tick checked off - one of many lip-services, it felt.

Funny, B...I watched more than intended, then ditched it for Seinfeld.

And now, listening to Playing for Change - their take on Gimme Shelter.

Ironic, no? But sweetness to my ears and the fat wondering mass between them.

Isn't the state of the union just a federal pep rally? It's all lip service and nothing more.

I decided watching Hot Tub Time Machine was the better path travelled last night.I can catch the high/low lightsof speech this am.Plus the movie prob had less fiction then the speech. And why were we wearing soooooo much color in 1986?I graduated that year and don't remember being that fluorescent. It seems like that was also the last couple years of not being tethered to technology.Good times indeed.

So I said I wouldn't watch it. And I didn't last night. I pulled it up on YouTube this morning and I'm regretting it. It's a mandatory speech that he has to make by law. Such a load of shit he is vomitting. The ovations make it unwatchable.
  • I didn't watch it, but I did see the part about this: As Obama began to explain that he has "no more campaigns left to run," some Republicans in the audience began to applaud.

The president paused and replied by saying, "I know because I won both of them."

    Booya!

Elected officials in charge of this country acting like fucking children....that was really sad to see. I did enjoy Obama's zing at them.

While the applause was probably, to some degree, in jest...particularly after having sat for 45 minutes or so being told repeatedly that it is "my way or the highway". I'm sure that the Republican applause had nothing to do with the fact that Obama is a narcissistic socialistic asshole who, over the course of six years, continues to talks out both sides of his mouth, has shown that he does not have a leadership bone in his body, and has done his best to "change" this country for the worst with terrible ideas/policies/actions.

    Let the tongue-lashing begin.

I don't understand how anyone can disagree with anything that was said. It is all common sense.

And there's exhibit A on why it is impossible to talk anything about politics around here. I'm no Obama supporter. I was just simply pointing out how sad it is that some of the GOP started cheering like they're at a fucking pep rally when Obama said that he didn't have any campaigns left to run. Even at the state of the union address, they can't show any respect for the fucking President ...very sad.

I agree...they should have and I wish they would have sat on their hands when Obama brought up his lame duck status. It's sad that the SOTU has gone from a rather "serious" speech to a borderline circus.
