The rich are hardly taxed hedonist, are you kidding? Why do you think we're losing the Middle Class? And did you know that the biggest corps (GE one of them) pays no tax at all? Nothing, zero.
Corporations, just like individuals, should pay taxes; no problem with that at all - any and all with income should. I'm talking about folks who've earned their personal wealth. I'm more of a flat-tax person, I guess.
By the way, I think I'll play a game this evening and hit the bowl every time I hear the term "middle class"...at least for as long as I can watch :-D

Prepare to be baked! That is all we're going to hear. "Middle class" will be mentioned over and over again. :-c"I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080 -
This is really the first time in 20 years that I have zero interest in what our president has to say. I doubt I watch the speech.0

I don't blame you. Obama gets to make a grandiose speech knowing that he doesn't have to do any real work since his plan will never be passed by congress anyway. So he'll say nice things, talk about the middle class, hope the middle class doesn't actually read too deeply into his plans since they will negatively impact the middle class through his tax proposals (hey, gotta get the $320 billion from somewhere and the middle class is an easy target), and people will talk about what a great speaker he is. I, too, think he's a great speaker if he's scripted, not so much if he's off the cuff. I don't typically like a lot of what he has to say, but he'll create some good soundbites for the national news channels. I wish presidents had to go through their previous year's speech and talk about what parts of the plan were actually implemented before they move on to the current year's plan. That would put the current year's plan in better perspective (ie, mostly talk, very few results expected). I might have to adopt Hedo's game plan to get through it!

I believe the war machine gets the keys to a shiny new war tonight.0

Do you think he's really going to do that? I mean actually do it? Wouldn't that take away his and his party's donor base? What he'll actually do is talk about taxing the rich, but the effect will be additional tax burdens for the middle class."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." Jake Tapper just said Obama will focus on how the economy is up, the GDP is up, unemployment is down, the deficit is down.....
Is the deficit down?? Obama didn't cut into the deficit did he? He's doubled it.0 -

i can't wait to watch republican heads explode tonight. it is gonna be just like mars attacks."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."0 -
I'm just getting a kick out of the pomp and circumstance.
(does anyone ever use "pomp" on its own?)0 -

yeah it is kind of stupid. it is all fake. those people will give him 75 standing ovations tonight, and then oppose every single idea they are applauding.
it is all just theater.
the state of the union address is worthless. they should just send out a mass email blast or something.. maybe people will read it instead of trying to listen to it and take it in...
it is all bullshit anyway. the president gives 45 minutes of steady bullshit. the congress claps knowing it is bullshit. the opposing party's address is an even bigger heaping pile of bullshit.
it is starting to smell in here...."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."0 -
I'm with ya, gimme. Even the cut-shots to audience members' reactions - theater indeed.
Also, I worry for everyone's backs come tomorrow with all those standing O's.
