the events haven't happened so it cannot be perceived 2 days in advance
which they have been... and been well documented
cognitive...a process of thought... that can not involve events
that one does not know will happen, that would be predicting the future
if by glitches you mean unexplained phenomenon in one's subconscious
well...this is all I have
but that doesn't really explain the hows or whys
which drive my search for the truth
Not 'unexplained' - explained, tested and 'properly' documented.
OK... let's use another word since you seem to be looking up basic definitions of the ones I use. How about cognitive science. Is that general enough? The 'bias' part, is only a section of this science.
From what you keep on posting, your truth is god and 'divine intervention'. So be it.
Science has explanations, Pandora has her explanation. To each their own.
Well that was a bit condescending when I am looking for scientific reasoning behind this subject.
Should I be surprised...I should know better than to trust.

I just think it is the human tendency, and also partially a biopsychological concept, to compartmentalize information--like I said, in an effort to make sense or order out of an abundance of varied information. It happens automatically to a large degree.

 Nothing condescending. You said it numerous times that what you know is true, is true (in various ways). I'm saying science has explanations for certain 'phenomena' (quite complex area which cannot be 'reasoned' in a few posts on a band's forum and would take a lot more that a couple of googles) and you have yours which is not science based but faith based. To each their own. What else can I say?
EmBleve - I'm not sure that's why 'science' tries to explain things. Generally, science is questioning and seeing if there is an answer (unless you have a 'problem' and your goal IS to find a solution). I have a friend who is a 'theory scientist' (and another who is a mathematician but dealing in pure maths). They are 'what if' people. Questioning, seeing if there is an answer, without looking for any specific outcome. Science does not have an answer to everything, but new things are discovered every day. It's man's curiosity that makes it jump in leaps and bounds. God is not a scientific concept, definitely not! The brain and how it functions, on the other hand.....

I agree that it's not the ONLY reason that science tries to explain things--but it is a form of compartmentalization. And yes, science (esp. social sciences--which is mainly what I believe concepts of faith/religion fall under) mostly operates on empirical studies that can be measured either qualitatively or quantitatively---and I don't personally believe that psychic phenomena and subjects touched upon recently in this thread can be explained in those terms. Look it up... ... but in depth!
Science is a very 'big picture'. For example, time travel (nothing to do with god or 'events' mentioned on this thread). With all the knowledge currently available, one can say that time travel could be possible but we are very, very far away from being able to do so physically (if ever). So some would say not proven because it hasn't been done, but the theory is there. The more we learn and we are able to connect all the dots, the more 'answers' we will have. Just look back at 'our' history.. what were once miracles, etc. are plain ol' natural phenomena or basic medical or scientific explanations that were not known or understood at the time.

Just following up on the 'YET' with a different type of example. Current knowledge explains these psychic phenomena, more dots to connect, it will be pushed further.

ah. I see. But current knowledge does not explain all psychic phenomena. Yes, it will be pushed further. It is all very amazing to me. But I don't think it will all be explained anytime soon; and I think it does involve astral travel, if you will, in some cases. 'Science' is still at a loss to explain some of these things.

Paranormal phenomena are very interesting. Science can't explain all psychic phenomena but one can extrapolate on current knowledge. Astral projection/out of body experiences... your consciousness is freed! Altered state? Could be caused by auto suggestion/trance/high stress/or the 'near death' experience. Interesting thing, that is!
The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description...
If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs, it would be Buddhism.

Yes, because Buddhism is the acceptance of everything as it is. There is no explanation needed. When you accept everything as it is, every moment is the best it can be...even if the worst thing is happening. Suffering, questioning, compartmentalization ceases to exists because we just are and revel in simply BEING.

yes, I love it. I find it very interesting and some things just cannot be explained! It is so freaky. I'd love to go to school for it but I've already been to school enough in my adult life so I don't think it's possible. But I read and watch all I can about it. And the confirmation bias you were speaking about earlier definitely comes into play with me on this subject.

thats the hard part for people...they continue to judge
then it's impossible to find harmony in yourself and in just being
Practice for the New Millennium by the Dalai Lama
The Practice
1. Spend 5 minutes at the beginning of each day remembering
we all want the same things (to be happy and be loved)
and we are all connected to one another.
2. Spend 5 minutes breathing in, cherishing yourself; and, breathing out
cherishing others. If you think about people you have difficulty cherishing,
extend your cherishing to them anyway.
3. During the day extend that attitude to everyone you meet.
Practice cherishing the "simplest" person (clerks, attendants, etc)
or people you dislike.
4. Continue this practice no matter what happens or what anyone does to you.
These thoughts are very simple, inspiring and helpful.
The practice of cherishing can be taken very deeply if done wordlessly,
allowing yourself to feel the love and appreciation that
already exists in your heart.

For some, it may work. But I would stay away from Dharma like that until other tools are shaped and in ones possession so to speak.
What the Lama is saying is not enough, far from enough and it can really be a bit of a dangerous practice. It's almost mindless at times. (which is not always a bad thing but when it comes to this, it is very bad)
Do you believe that? Or do you understand it and know it IS? Be and it is,
It's basic Quantum mechanics,
I understand that it IS. If there were no IS, we would not even exist, or even have an existence to ponder. Since I accept the IS, regardless of explanation, it becomes my belief.
I accept everything in this Life. I am open to all beliefs because it is how people need to make sense of the world. I chose to no longer find out why I exist in order to find enjoyment in Life, and in doing so I enjoy being. I then chose to share my joy with others, even the ones who are not in a place of joy. Kwim?
I am fascinated with Quantum physics. However, I do not sit here waiting for the answers it may or may not give me. I just revel in being alive. That's an amazing feat on it's own.

yes it is!!! It's easier said than done sometimes. Good for you Shimmy!
Thank you
It comes easier and easier as I grow older. Be grateful for the things you love...no matter how small they may seem. The next thing you know, you have an unlimited amount of things to love and be grateful for. I am glad I failed at self-termination years ago. It made me realize that some souls never get to have a Life here. Kwim?
I started by simply loving that I am alive. Then it change to awe of Life and my place in it. Reveling in just being alive here has made me realize that everything, and everyone, I have met since I was born is a bonus...even the big ol' meanies. The only way to for me to pay homage to this Life is be loving and grateful for all the things that cross my path, because I never know how I might be a bonus to someone else in this Life.

Yeah I know what you mean,
But ?, Why do you believe that you exist in order to find enjoyment in life? Or is that simply because of choice? Choice based on certain knowledge leading you to the choice made? Taking into account Potentiality and/or actuality?
Then your choice to share your actual or perceived joy with others, 'even' others who are not in a place of joy.
Now in doing so, we must examine Cause and effect.
Remember, you have made the 'choice' to stop asking the important 'why' and have fallen into a state of 'acceptance'.

Does a infant or child question why he/she exists? No.They just accept it. They accept that everything as it is. Because of this acceptance, they are they happiest people on the planet. They also share their happiness freely with everyone, in smiles, hugs and laughter, if not with words. I do not need to know "why" to be happy. Searching for "why" wastes my energy, when I could be spending my energy on enjoying the life I have.

are you an infant or a child? Probably not
The 'why' must not end so easily, we need the why when so many questions are still 'unanswered', that is just reality, accepting like you say a child does, is almost ignorant, hence the term 'ignorance is BLISS', meaning 'supreme happiness; utter joy or contentment'.

'Joy' being the specific word you used.
No I am not a child...However, children still learn and grow even as they accept. I feel I can learn that from them. In fact, self-esteem is built on acceptance, is it not? People do not flourish without acceptance, from peers, or family, and especially themselves. It is my personal experience, when people have good self-esteem, they are accepting in all ways.
Acceptance does not mean ignorance to me. It does not mean I am a doormat. On the contrary, Mr. Abraham. To me, acceptance is seeing an event as it is (even if the reality is not what I want) and then choosing the way I will participate in it, by either adding negative, positive or neutral energy to it. Whatever I choose to do, I have to accept my own actions. I am responsible for my life here, so I might as well use my energy to its fullest potential, regardless of who gave the energy initially. The song "Present Tense" comes to mind.
To the OP, I am sorry if I have hijacked your thread.

You know, I typed a few posts about 'returning to innocence', a time before our ego, children are in that pure state, then things start to happen to them, and they start to lose that pure reality and fall into this matrix we all call life. When in reality, this world, is just a cover. And the TV, our leaders, the entire system is built to keep us away from the truth, the reality, all these machines, watching us, controlling. Turning us into machines. Bar coded and shipped out.
Children (like you know) are out of the matrix, they are in a true realm, a true state of mind or consciousness, but they are pulled out of it, by us, adults, our lies, our egos, or material creations, this world is all transitory. Here today, gone tomorrow.
Like the Rumi quote posted earlier, we create barriers/ego and we need to break them down, returning to the state of the true reality. Before the ego (like when we were children in a pure state of mind), but the greatest thing of all is when we are able to understand why we have those barriers/ego, not just being able to identify them, but to truly understand them and what created them. Connect the dots, see that algorithm of life. Then, touch the earth and 'awake' as the Buddha once said.
last night i was sitting on the sofa nd the toddlermonster came to me and asked if she could sit on my lap. after she climbed up she snuggled into me and said, i love you. i often wonder if a small child can grasp this concept of love.. do they know what it is.. what it means.. or do they have this overwhelming sense of feeling that they just label love? i find small children fascinating... especially the one that lives in the room next to mine.
hear my name
take a good look

we all want the same things (to be happy and be loved)
and we are all connected to one another.
