Love Boat Captain opening the penultimate show on this leg of the tour. Brain Of J is a welcome addition 2nd song. Another making it's 2nd appearance on this leg is I Got Shit, after making a false start it's good to hear Faithfull. Given To Fly somehow doesn't really work sandwiched between Deep and Spin The Black Circle. There is some great guitar work by Mike on Black towards the end of the main set.

Earlier in the set Ed tells the crowd that while fans might think the best show of a tour is the last one, for the band it's the penultimate that is best. The encores have a party feel to them, Free Jazz opening the 1st encore. Driven To Tears however is very good. The 2nd encore begins with Soon Forget and is followed by Smile. Next is a trio of covers to end the 2nd encore - Fortunate Son, Sonice Reducer and People Have The Power.

But wait! That's not the end of the show - there is a 3rd encore! The band come back out for Baba O'Riley and sign off with Yellow Ledbetter.

A good fun show but I prefer the previous show at Uniondale.

Man so far, with the exception of Pittsburgh, I don't think your missing much. I've heard most of philly 2 on you tube and my 2 shows, all three of those seem tight. But these first shows, even the 2 Brooklyn ones, are just a little too sloppy. I'm sure leg 2 will fix most of this. The boots sound good, but not better than 2011 or 2012. The guitars don't quite have the crunch like 2012, nor the warmth of 2011. But the 2013 boots are quite crisp and clean sounding. Matts drums sound great overall, but with the guitars being mixed just a little too low it puts eds voice too high in the mix for my picky preferences. Overall, still much better than '08,'09, and '10.

Edit: gotta give Brooklyn 2 more time to judge, but night one is full of rough edges

Very interesting to hear - thanks for feedback my man. I accidentally bought the Pittsburgh bootleg before I purchased the box set, and I was kind of underwhelmed overall with the sound of it. Of course, I listened to it in my car and not on my headphones yet, but you're right - it didn't seem to capture the richness of the 2012 and 2011 boots.

On a random note, I do like to feel the crowd in boots. This goes along with the past few years of boots, but I wish they would go back to the 2000 and 2003 boots and not mix the crowd down so much. It seems like in the Pitt boot, and with the past several years, they've mixed down the crowd quite a bit. Some of those 2000 and 2003 boots are nirvana - a beautiful mix with the music, especially the guitar work, and Ed's voice. The drums are a little low on those boots, but they really are the perfect mix with the music from all angles and the crowd.

I mostly agree with your overall sentiments, and the perfect balance between crowd vs sound quality is hard to reach it seems. I tend to prefer the warmth and textures that is produced on the 2003 boots, whereas I think both the Euro and US 2000 tour tends to fall short. Euro 00 has great clarity, but truly lacks the warmth of Jeff's bass. US 2000 can be warm, but seems to sound flat and almost texture-less. 2003 finds a nice balance (although Matt is just a tad low in the mix). I love the 2000 Euro clarity, but I have to listen hard to hear Jeff. I still enjoy them over US 2000 by a long shot. 2012 and 2011 are my favorites in terms of boot mixing, I am not sure those will ever be topped. I find myself going to listen to 2012 far too often :D

Had to get the cd on this one! Can't wait to hear a show that I was present for! need to to load the digital Brooklyn 1 to my phone still until then I'm listening to Ottawa 2005. I really enjoyed this show. Wash>>>go>>hail hail>>animal>>brain of j>>>corduroy!! Nice start. Other highlights for me...1st don't gimme no lip and maybe the best one I've heard, awesome green disease into insignificance. Absolutely beautiful black with a unique tag (is this on the best black tags list?). Encore bee girl then a very groovy and chill I believe in miracles followed by one of my favorites sleight of hand. Small town feels out of place next but whatever. Almost 10 min Crazy Mary with excellent boom solo and mike in the end. If I was forced to complain about something in this show I'd say that the addition of sleater kinney on harvest moon, leavin here and ritfw was completely unnecessary. overall I really like this one.

Final show of leg 1 of the US tour.

Release opens before swiftly going into Save You, Animal and Corduroy. Following I Am Mine, the band go into the improv they played at St Louis before launching into Rearviewmirror. Next Nothingman is beautiful and after is followed by Daughter with Ed throwing in tags for Highway To Hell, Hell No We Won't Go and Another Brick In The Wall. It makes for an epic Daughter. Lukin/Whipping/MFC is a great trio and between Jeremy and Blood there is another cool improv.

The first encore begins with Ed on acoustic for You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (which he messes up a few times) and an excellent Gimme Some Truth. The band are back for Breath, which Ed tells the crowd is a request for a girl who has been the last dozen shows and had a sign requesting it. Great version with a superb & extended outro. Black and Alive close the first encore.

The second encore begins with Ed telling the crowd they are happy to stay and play the longest Pearl Jam show in history if the crowd are up for it. After Last Exit, Stone takes the vocals for Mankind which needs a restart after messing up the start. Down is next and after Better Man, Ed says song requests are open to floor. After everyone shouting out requests they finally go into Satan's Bed - first performance Oct '96 - and it's an absolute trainwreck from the beginning! I think only Matt manages to play it properly! A great Leaving Here ends the second encore.

The band return for a third encore and Ed dares the crowd to leave. They start up with Crazy Mary, some awesome to-and-fro with Stone, Mike and Boom here. Mike's at it again during the Porch solo and it's a really extended jam by the guys. Fortunate Son and Rockin' In The Free World are then up. Yellow Ledbetter is left - what else? - to close the longest show in Pearl Jam history (at the time).

    Epic.

Been listening to Brooklyn 2. So far, the early part of 2013 tour has been on the sloppy side but Brooklyn 2, Pitts, and Worcester 1 have several redeeming qualities (mostly just really good vibes created by the band/crowd and overall pretty enjoyable as a whole).

I'd rank them from best to least impressive:
    Pitts
    Brooklyn 2
    Worcester 1
    Worcester 2

    Brooklyn 1
    Buffalo

The last two were a little hard to listen to at times. :?

My feelings are still getting adjusted to 2013 mixing. The 2013 boots sound quite good, but I can't say they top '11 and '12. Still, for a live recording I think they sound quite nice. Probably put them towards the top in terms of mixing (better than 00, 05, 06, 08, 09, 10). But not better than 03, 11, 12. I just wish the guitars had a bit more body and crunch. Either that, or lower Ed in the mix a little. Still, I'm grateful to have all these recordings that have anywhere from a decent to excellent mixing.

So shows #16-#37 of the 2003 tour now completed - my favourites from this leg are West Palm Beach, Cleveland, Uniondale and State College.

    edited December 2013
    Brooklyn 2 2013

After the slightly off nights in Worcester 1 and 2, and the really rough nights in Buffalo and Brooklyn 1, I felt Pittsburgh may have been the only show out of the first 6 shows of the 2013 tour that was worthy of recommending. To be frank, it appears Pittsburgh is still the tightest, most error free. But at this point, I feel I can recommend both Worcester 1 and Brooklyn 2 as well, especially the latter. What a show lacks in musical tightness, it can often be made up in energy or vibes. I feel those two shows, along with Pittsburgh, are at the very worst, still really good shows. You can hear the enjoyment the band is having and the love for what they do. In part, that’s what bootlegs are about (in my opinion).

Brooklyn 2 opens with one of the better renditions of Pendulum at this point in the tour. Pittsburgh also has a wonderful version, Buffalo was fair, but the versions in Brooklyn 1 and Worcester 2 are not very good. After a beautiful opener, the next three songs work pretty well together and are solid versions (Wash-Nothingman-Lightning Bolt). Mind Your Manners just doesn’t cut it for me live, especially the ending. The song is played too fast and just sounds rough every time it’s been played so far this tour. After that we see the first disaster in the show. Last Exit, up until the chorus, finds the band playing completely out of time with one another. Ed and Matt sound as if they came together quickly, but Mike, Jeff and Stone just couldn’t find the groove until the chorus. A similar problem occurs in Present Tense, but is far less noticeable and problematic. Sirens sounds powerful here. Infallible is pretty tight too (despite slight rearrangement of the words), but unless it’s butchered I love it live. The studio version is good, but live it sounds heavier to me in a great way. Rats is a decent take, but following it is the worst version of Unthought Known I have heard. Ed forgets the words to at least half the song and doesn’t even really try to figure it out. It had me busting out laughing, it’s that bad.

That’s enough of the bad because the second half of the show is pretty damn tight. The entire first encore to be more specific is absolutely great. Beautiful versions of Footsteps and Yellow Moon, the latter is another LB song that sounds so much better live to me. Good versions of All Those Yesterdays and Future Days. Once again, Future Days sounds better live; far less country sounding. I hate the violin on the studio version. Although not perfect, decent hard rocking takes of DTE and Go follow. Porch is a great way to end encores or main sets. Transitioning directly from Go to Porch works nicely and energetically. Whipping sounds good here, and Blood is pretty solid too. Ed’s voice sounds a little thin, but not quite a strained as usual while performing such a blistering song.

Overall, the show is a really good one. Not what I would call epic or surprisingly great, but an all-around pleasant one. Despite its flaws, there are still many great versions of songs and great energy from the band. The crowd is one that clearly the band enjoyed and fed off of. I doubt Brooklyn 2 will go down in the top 5 of the 2013 Lightning Bolt tour, but I doubt it will be in the bottom 5 either.

I've had a lot of time recently to give the first handful of 2013 boots a good listen or two.

    Worcester I 2013

Or we can call it “Wooster” like Ed does on the boot! However you pronounce the city’s name, the first of two nights is an all-around solid offering from the 2013 bootlegs (especially from the first several gigs of the tour). The previous show in Buffalo is one of the worst PJ boots I have heard, as much as it pains me to say that. There the band was not in sync together and clearly something was bothering Ed. He was off mark all night in Buffalo. Worcester night 1 finds the band in very happy spirits, and as a result the show is a good one.

Release takes the place of Pendulum for this evening; one of the very rare times in leg 1 where Pendulum was not the opener. The only other time Pendulum was not the opener in leg 1 was Voodoo Fest! A good take of Release to open, then right into a decent version of Long Road works well. Ed very slightly messes up the “friends and family” line in Long Road. Nonetheless, his voice sounds strong in those two songs. As a whole, the main set flows well. It actually may be a little tighter than Brooklyn 2 and pretty much on par with Pittsburgh (two other solid shows from early in the tour). Lightning Bolt tonight is not quite the firecracker it normally is, some of the effects are missing right before the bridge but overall it’s simply a nitpicky issue. Nothing As It Seems is a nice treat, but Ed almost drops the ball by forgetting the lyrics right before the bridge. Swallowed Whole sounds good right after NAIS. This version is much better than the one in Buffalo. Red Mosquito tonight is not the tightest version I’ve heard, but it’s still nice to have in the set. Matt’s drumming towards the end of Corduroy is frantic and quite exciting. Ed’s speech right before Infallible is heartwarming. He says performing at these shows provides a place or environment where he can be himself and be accepted. This leads into a solid version of Infallible. Down tuning the song and having Ed sing it in a lower register sounds great live. It’s too bad the same cannot be said for Mind Your Manners. Save You is one of the tighter versions I've heard in the last couple years. Ed has been having a hard time remembering the lyrics to it, especially in 2012. Leash, also sounds energetic and hard rocking. Let the Records Play is a little off due to Ed messing up the words in the second verse, but it’s not a complete fumble. Encore 1 is quite good. Ed in particular sounds nice on Man of the Hour, Yellow Moon, and Fatal. All of which are convincing versions. Unfortunately, I find encore 2 to be average at best. Ed misspells “loitering” in Crazy Mary and it’s hilarious. The boys get severely off time at the beginning of Sonic Reducer and Ed sounds a bit distracted in Indifference.

I find the boot to be a good, but just slightly above average show. They clearly are still rusty where it’s only the third show in, but they are in great spirits enjoying the wonderful crowd. Some really good versions of songs, but the many rough edges keep this from being a great show.
