Radiohead albums deserve multiple listens and after multiple listens of this I still stand by my original statement. 2 and a half decent tracks on it and thats all. Feels almost as some of this material was a work in progress. Kind of like a well polished demos that the band would later on pull certain elements from to create something better. And thats listening to it through my 'jazz ears'
I would take amnesiac over this. Still, can't win them all eh?
I hated Amnesiac at first, but after many listens, it has become my all time favorite Radiohead album. Im not sayin i dont have any love for OK Computer and The Bends. They're classics, for sure, and you could put either on and any time and I'd listen to them thru and think they're still great. But Amnesiac gets the most play for me. If you haven't witnessed Pyramid Song live, i feel sorry for you.
I think people just need to listen to a new album with an open mind. Dont listen to a new album and constantly compare to previous works, or hope it sounds like, or think it sounds like a previous album by the band. Each album is its own, and needs to be thought of as such.

Fair enough then. It seems to be picking up some pretty decent reviews out in the big wide world. Like I said above though, I don't really have an interest in peddling radiohead here - but I have been enjoying it - though I doubt it will win a place in my heart like In Rainbows did, mainly because of the style.

Yup completley agree and I think it takes about 6 - 12 months to truly see where you stand with an album. Sometimes you really love something at first but few months down the line you get bored or you move on and the same can be said for disliking an album. Sometimes you come back to it after a long period of time and you hear something you didn't first time around.

Well you like it or you don't, nothing anybody here says will change anyone's opinion. It's just nice to hear why people like / dislike it. Endurance is the test of a great album. Everything we say here is just a first opinion, ressurect this thread a few months down the line and see where we all stand then, my opinion may change as it has done before.

It's not that I couldn't like the latter day stuff - I can enjoy it for what it is, but it's just not the same band that made those earlier records. It literally is like two different bands entirely, but with the same singer.
Have been listening to Led Zep's Physical Graffitit again these past few days - now THAT is a guitar and drums album if ever there was one! A high point. I think some of the current bands (PJ included) should return to this and try and match it. But I digress!
Side 3: In the Light/Bron-yr-Aur/Down by the Seaside/Ten Years Gone
My favorite side of a record ever.
That is just a purely awesome rock & roll record. Could've dealt without Night Flight however.
I went through a whole 'Side 4 of Physical Graffiti' phase for a while - got well into it. I am thinking of resurrecting the physical graffiti thread while I am spinning this record again - probably makes more sense to wax on about Physical graffitti not in the Radiohead thread I'm not sure a better rock album than Physical Graffitti exists..... Might try and find that thread again later!
frickin LOVE Led Zeppelin
only listened to them properly for the first time this year
Have listened to Led Zeppelin II and IV only, been playing them over and over and over.
Blew me away, seriously. I had to stop what I was doing, just close my eyes and listen.
Beautiful, Ramble On is one of my favourites

Utterly amazing - I've had this on repeat all day and I've totally fallen in love with it. Good Morning Mr Magpie, Little By Little and Codex are especially brilliant.

Oh my god YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be prepared to have your mind blown over and over for probably the rest of your life. You need them all eventually, but I and III should be your next purchases. Then move on the rest. It's all great imo, yes even ITTOD.
About the Radiohead album....Definitely gonna get more spins, in different settings. I'm a big fan of theirs. They really can't top The Bends and Ok Comp for me, though HTTT is pretty close.
Kid A is pretty solid, but I think How To Disappear and Everything In It's RIght Place are obvious highlights.
Amnesiac just doesn't draw me in at all, really.
Pablo Honey is really front loaded but it's still listenable.
In Rainbows is one of the better listens, but it seems kinda safe overall.
I just finished my first listen and this is what I have to say. It has the worst parts of Kid A (even though there were hardly any) and the worst parts of In Rainbows (even though there wasnt that much) wrapped into one mediocre Thom Yorke solo album rebadged as a Radiohead album that isnt even 10 songs deep.
I know that sounds really harsh but even with that said it really isnt that bad. Its just not really all that good. Im sure there will be 2 or 3 tracks I'll dig quite a bit after awhile.
Consistent? The bends and ok computer were awesome - no arguments... But to suggest kid A and amnesiac are consistent or brilliant is a bold statement. In my own subjective opinion they are horse shit records that people have had to try and like because they are radiohead.

Anyone else realize Morning Mr Magpie is a reworked song from years ago.
I first heard this song in 04 I think.
Yup - just caught the original on YouTube. I have to say, I definitely prefer what they've done with it since.

I don't mind Kid A, but it doesn't showcase the parts of the band I like the most.
A post on Radiohead's message board. Very interesting.
"With an album title inspired by a 1000 year old tree, song titles like Bloom, Lotus Flower, and Feral, a acoustic guitars galore (even acoustic bass), exclusively real drums, and chopped up samples of thing like hand claps, hand percussion, the human voice, and a plethora of other natural sounds, Radiohead with this album were clearly trying to create something completely organic out of an electronic atmosphere. The whole thing is peppered with glitches and blips, but it never stops feeling alive - alive and breathing.
Here, the electronic haze of our modern age blends seemlessly with a forest of natural sound. Radiohead wanted to create an electronic album that was alive and breathing, and with The King of Limbs they've succeeded mightily."

Reviews are just opinions, but to be the most decorated album in a decade (according to many decade best lists) and to be considered an album that fans just try to like (according to previous poster) are worlds apart.
Btw listen to this album with a good pair of headphones- I feel that will really make a difference.
Yeah I had some very good reactions to this album earlier today, lying on my bed with heaphones on soaking it all up
Currently on my 3rd listen with my Bose QC15s blasting in my ears. This is a great album. I would appreciate some b sides this year, but I am perfectly content with this album.

this is why music excites me.
Pearl Jam will always be my first love. But Radiohead is the greatest band in the world.
