Anyone who writes off any radiohead album on the day it is released is clearly bonkers. In fact anyone who writes any album off on the first day's listening should have their license to listen to music revoked.
I'm on my third listen, and enjoying it more than I did Kid A and Amnesiac - which I like a lot more these days than I did at first. I loved the Eraser, and the first half of the album is clearly most similar to this in many ways. It is an album of two halves - with the first half most similar to the Eraser and the second half most similar to In Rainbows IMHO.
The electronics don't put me off - I am enjoying this album with my 'Jazz listening' ears on. Some haunting haunting vocals - a lot of layers, a lot of layers to absorb, and an album to give the amount of attention and respect you feel Radiohead may have earned to date. It will be several months of listening before I write this one off.

If you're referring to my comment that it probably won't be better than Led Zep's 4th, well, that is definitely not "writing off" the new Radiohead album. Probably no album in history has been better than Led Zep's 4th album. (apologies to Ten, OK Computer)
I do agree that it seems like some people are quickly judging this album.

A big complaint that I have is that it's too short. I understand the Backspacer comparison in that regard but you gotta figure that they recorded more than eight tracks.
Led Zep 4 isn't even their best record. Name one band that has made as many consistent albums as Radiohead. I wish Pearl Jam were still as creative as they were 15 years ago. Backspacer and the avacado are weak sauce for Pearl Jam.

That's entirely subjective. I don't think Radiohead have been the most consistent band. I think a lot of people have learned to love their latter-day work, but let's not pretend that this is even remotely the same band that produced their earlier work. Gone are most of the melodies, gone are most of the guitars, leaving very little of their original identity. In fact the only real constant here is Thom Yorke's voice, which remains pretty incredible, but for many fans it wasn't his voice alone that attracted them to the band.
I understand their desire to experiment, but I almost hate Jonny Greenwood for being the mad-scientist/multi-instrumental genius that he is, because nobody plays guitar quite like him, and I REALLY miss that. Listening to the new record, I liked about half of it after the first listen, but I can't help feeling a little disappointed after over three years waiting for new material.

There is never any trouble finding Radiohead b-sides (for free). I will only complain about an album's running time if it is close to the half hour mark than this (only exception is Dylan's Nashville Skyline which is a 27 minute masterpiece).
I mean really what is the difference between 37 minutes and 45 minutes (which is pretty average)? If they felt this 37 minutes was the work that they should release, I will give them the benefit of the doubt. At this point in their career, they deserve it.

No I wasn't referring to it not being Led Zep 4! Just generally surprised that people feel confident to declare it rubbish on day one. I am enjoying it, and will definitely be coming back to it in the coming weeks.
Anyway, it's hard enough convincing Pearl Jam fans to try and listen again to some Pearl Jam albums, without trying to get them to persevere with Radiohead as well! So I don't have a massive interest in trying to 'sell' this album.... It's clearly on the more 'experimental' side of the Radiohead output, or certainly the non-traditional guitar rock thing. I loved In Rainbows to bits for the amazing songs and singing - and I doubt I will be playing this one as much. But having got a lot from the Eraser over the years, I'm sure this one will find its place too.
Have been listening to Led Zep's Physical Graffitit again these past few days - now THAT is a guitar and drums album if ever there was one! A high point. I think some of the current bands (PJ included) should return to this and try and match it. But I digress!

That is just a purely awesome rock & roll record. Could've dealt without Night Flight however.

I went through a whole 'Side 4 of Physical Graffiti' phase for a while - got well into it. I am thinking of resurrecting the physical graffiti thread while I am spinning this record again - probably makes more sense to wax on about Physical graffitti not in the Radiohead thread I'm not sure a better rock album than Physical Graffitti exists..... Might try and find that thread again later!

no one should write off any album after only one listen.
i find that the albums that take the most listens for me to get into, are the ones that end up having the most replay value, and the albums that i like right away are usually the ones that i end up getting bored with after a few months.
Sure, Radiohead has strayed far from where they began, but all bands must evolve, otherwise they end up putting out the same stuff over and over and it gets stale. This band is too creative to keep writing the same shit over and over, and the greatness that is Radiohead is the fact that they can make many different types of music, whether it be rock or electronic, and they kill it every time.
the more people who write this band off as they continue down the electronic path, the easier it is for me to get tickets to their shows when the tour the US

Consistent? The bends and ok computer were awesome - no arguments... But to suggest kid A and amnesiac are consistent or brilliant is a bold statement. In my own subjective opinion they are horse shit records that people have had to try and like because they are radiohead.
Consistency?

Admittedly I'm a much bigger pearl jam fan
As for this new record I haven't heard it yet but from reading here the signs are not good. More electronica - such a shame. Maybe it's 'the opposite to what people keep saying, maybe they lost their creativity and the ability to make melodies and songs - hence this knocking out a beats laden album

Comments
"Morning Mr. Magpie" has got such a sick groove to it. Lots of drum 'n' bass and free-form jazz influences on this record.
"Lotus Flower" is so good. But my favorite song is probably "Separator."

it's just about as long as backspacer
Length of The King of Limbs: 37.4 minutes
