It was a solid win - I just didn't want to be successful with "The Monster" in net - now we're going to have to re-sign him at the end of the year. But - I fear Optimus may not be the same after his "concussion".

or potentially trade him as his stock rises ... it's a good position to be in ... having said that - monster looked horrible beginning of the year ... overplaying pucks, scrambling, looking lost ... he is way more composed now and playing a lot more relaxed ...

He certainly is playing with much more confidence - and of course - it is never a bad thing to have too many guys playing well. Hell - he may even get is into the playoffs. And there is no denying he is a battler - never gives up. Good for him.

I think I just convinced myself to like him.....

    Monster....! Monster.....! Monster......!

As a rule, I try not to rag on goalies very much because sometimes they flip a switch and make you eat your words. I'm riding the Monster train right now, and hoping the next stop is the postseason.

Another Monsterific result! We're now one of 4 teams for 8th - technically - one sits in 3rd because division leaders are the top seeds.

nice win last nite ... they were outplaying the islanders for the most part but still fall victim to that defensive zone melt down ... grabovski is looking pretty awesome now ... checking the top line and scoring ... that pass to macarthur was a thing of beauty ...

Here is the best thing I've read in a while.....
It does come from HockeyBuzz - so - take it with a grain of salt....

"Been on the phone all day looking into the rumors I am hearing out of New York that are saying the Maple Leafs may be closing in on their man...

As one source called it.."The biggest trade of the year is all but set."

Another source said, "I wouldn't yet say it was done, but I will say it is the answer the team has needed for some time. A top line scorer...It may take a few days though..

There have been a few names being thrown around, but the names that are the most common are that of either Blue jacket Nash or Carter. I have also heard Getzlaf mentioned today...for the first time from a guy who is familiar with it. Stay tuned... "

GET NASH BURKIE!!!!!!! 2nd option is Getzlaf. We are not too horny about Carter, his injury history, or his contract.

i don't think the ducks are out of it ... they have been the hottest team in the last 10 games ... not sure if they will blow it up just yet ... and considering the lupul and gardiner for beauchemain trade ... i'm guessing they are gonna be gun shy ... columbus on the other hand definitely needs to do something ...
  • polaris_xpolaris_x Posts: 13,559
nice bounce back win ... despite that horrible third period the night before ... short memories ... best thing this team could have ...
  • Of those 3 names mentioned, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Getzlaf. Burke has quite the tendency to make deals with the Ducks since his departure.
  • uninnocent-uninnocent- Posts: 5,959
I'd kill for Getzlaf, but now that the Ducks have a spark under their asses, they've picked up their game. It's gonna be hard to convince them to give up such an immensely talented player. He's 100% what we need up front, but I doubt there's any chance.

Looks like Reimer will be the guy down the stretch ... some crisp passing last night and the team is healthy ... nice to get a win at "home" ...

Need to snap this losing streak tonight and can't think of a better team to do it against. The boys can also cap off the special evening with a win for Mats.
Really looking forward to the tribute for Sundin tonight, he is one of my alltime favs. Just might wear my Sundin jersey tonight when I watch the game :D

I always hate the trip out west, find we don't usually play very well. About the only game I see a potenial point from will be in Edmonton.
I say they gotta go with the Monster in net again

I hope Burke does his best to get Nash, he is the big forward we need.
I would be willing to trade Schenn, Phaneuf, Kadri, & someone else from the minors to get him.
Who else thinks we should get Nash :?:

  • This team has been dead since (before) the trade deadline...I'm really glad Wilson got axed...There were always lots of rumblings that he was terrible with young and developing kids...having the youngest team in teh league would not be the best scenario for him.

Burke now has The 2007 Ducks' Assistant coach, Goalie coach, Lupol, and now head coach...He's either actually building another stanley cup team...or a time machine.

Looking forward to a new tie behind the bench. See what he can get out of thse guys for the last 20 games of the year.

Magic number for them to make the playoffs is 12-6-1...It starts tonight. Good luck boys.

A change was definitely needed, hopefully this is the one that works out best for the leafs.

I'm glad we picked up a win tonight. I doubt that Carlyle is the solution to all our problems, but he's a start. I've watched him more than I have Eakins or Crawford (I've been a huge supporter of the Ducks), and I've never had a problem with him thus far. 1-0 in the Carlyle era so far...
  • polaris_xpolaris_x Posts: 13,559
yeah ... wilson is not a great coach ... defensively this team looks lost ... could be too little too late tho ... tough games this week ... bos, pit, philly ... need to take 2 of 3 ...
  • Beating the Habs should not be seen as this team getting better or being on the right track...if they can win 2 of 3 this week then I'll be interested in how the final 15 games play out...Right now though, the teams around them in the 8th spot area look much better than them and seem to have more of a instinctive fight to want it. I just don't see the "want it" in the Leafs yet.

5 more years of Grabovski. I'm excited since I consider him the type of player that a playoff team needs. That excitement may die when I see the cap hit, but for now ignorance is bliss.
