    .

much more common sense there than the bowl system...

did you hear about mark cuban's idea?

    playoffs would be nice.

i read teh cuban thing. the article i read said it wasn't so much a money issue as it was the confrences not wanting to change.

i'm losing hope of ever seeing a playoff.

i'd say everyone should skip the bcs championship game and not watch it, but we all know that will never happen.

i might watch about 10 minutes tops of all these bowls coming up.

I love the bowls. something to bet on every night for the next three weeks. LOVE IT

Big Ten is considering renaming their new divisions. Can that conference do anything right?

Always nice to see Nova lose. Loved it.

this f#cking bright red turf is giving me the biggest headache ever. what the hell was eastern wash thinking??

    go nova.

what is the fcs you speak of?

several teams have copied boise state in turf changing color shit. green is the only color a field should ever be.
That's what I was saying last night. I thought Boise was given an exception that I heard about a couple of years ago. What I thought I heard was that they were under some birds migratory path and the field was blue to prevent thousands of birds from resting there.

for gambling purposes, i can see why people watch. other than that, these are just glorified exhibition games, other than the championship.

only one i usually watch is the meineke care care bowl...love the tradition of that one.

pat devlin looked solid again yesterday. if the birds end up signing vick and trading kolb, i wouldn't mind them taking a flyer on him if he drops to the 4th round next year.....be ironic to use the donovan pick on the possible qb of the future.

Big Ten may rethink Legends, Leaders
    Associated Press

CHICAGO -- Jim Delany has spent more than two decades as commissioner of the Big Ten, overseeing two conference expansions and the formation of the Big Ten Network.

None of it prepared him for the overwhelmingly negative reaction to the conference's new division names.

Delany said during an interview with WGN AM-720 in Chicago on Thursday that the names Legends and Leaders were picked to highlight the conference's rich history, and that "to a great extent it's fallen on deaf ears." Many fans have instead mocked the names and asked officials to reconsider, which Delany said could happen after the first of the year.

"I think we have enough experience with names, and expansion and development of divisions, to know that you never, rarely, get 90 percent approval rating," Delany said during the interview. "But to get a 90 percent non-approval rating was, you know, really surprising."

The league will be split into two divisions beginning next season, when Nebraska becomes the 12th member. The Huskers will be joined by Northwestern, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and Iowa in the Legends Division. Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin will comprise the Leaders Division.

At least, assuming those are still the names by then.

"We want to breathe a little bit," Delany said. "I don't think you make a judgment in 48 hours or 72 hours. Eventually we're going to have to address the issue of whether or not it's sustainable, but I don't think that's an issue for today."

Delany said the conference chose the divisions based on parity, rather than geography, which made naming them East-West or North-South impractical. The Big Ten also considered using names of historic players or coaches, but Delany said that would have been "too limiting."

The commissioner also said there was little consideration given to changing the conference name from the Big Ten, unlike in 1990, when Penn State became the 11th member.

Delany said university faculty, presidents and alumni supported keeping "Big Ten" and that it represents a brand rather than the number of institutions. The name change also would have affected the branding of the Big Ten Network, which launched in 2007.

"It's humbling, to say the least, because we're trying to build fan bases, not push them away," Delany said of the uproar caused by the new division names. "I was surprised. I've been around this business a long time, and it's one of the more surprising things."

That was the New Orleans Bowl between Troy and Ohio. Troy won 48-21. The Ohio side of the Superdome was the shot you mostly saw and they didn't bring many fans to the game. The overall attendance was somewhere around 21,000 which is about normal for that game based on the previous games. I went to that bowl in '06 and '08.

No. Tv has a lot of influence, but most sports were built an established before tv sports were around. All these goofy bowls are driven by tv money

whats even more of a joke is how this colleges profit off these kids. i thought college was a place to learn not a place to profit off kids. . these college athletes should be paid and then we wont have like pryor selling rings and shit just to help out his mom. give these kids a few grand a year. what's a few grand to a school say like ND or usc or others who make millions upon millions every year from these kids.

A.J. Green sold his Independence Bowl Jersey for $1000 and was suspended for four games even after Georgia appealed. I would say in regards to the severity of the penalty on both sides at least the NCAA is being consistent. Of course, we'll see if it sticks through appeal.

They do get paid the aforementioned education.

If the NCAA allowed them to sell thier jerseys then in no time donors would be offering high school students 100s of 1000s for thier jersey if they come play at such and such school.
