I'm sure it does cost more, but I doubt PJ had to increase their prices so drastically to make it work for them
...
I don't know... I don't know if it cost more or what the difference is.
But, what I do know is this... touring is a big thing. There are several big rigs required to tote around the sound and lighting... and a couple of 3 busses to haul the production crew of roadies and techs from city to city, accross this nation. That's not including the diesel generators at the venues, car services to and from venues, hotels and airports or plane trips for the band, their families that decide to come along and their management and staff.
That's a lot of carbon to offset, don't you think? I think so. Much more than my one car driving back and forth to work.
Enough to impact ticket prices? My guess is, 'Yup'. By how much? I have no idea.

What is an AFI and are you comparing Green Day to Pearl Jam? Cmon
An AFI is a band that still stands for something
Ys I'm comparing Green Day to Pearl Jam. I don't personally like Green Day, but for the sake of this argument their ticket prices (cheaper than PJ Shocker!) do matter
Not really...
But I do understand for some of you..
the way I look at it is:
1. Pearl jam is the best of the best
2. Elton John is 200+, Springsteen 150+...what till 2015..wow bitchin when PJ will be $140
3. As long as they are and play the way they do...it's a STEAL to me
4. You can't compare...Grenn Day, Foo Fighters or even Soundgarden to Pearl Jam LIVE

1. Subjective
2. Is it a mental block with you people that you keep neglecting to show the low range ticket on other acts. You can routinely get tickets to see Bruce for less than $150 per ticket
3. $92.50 for the 400s at MSG is not a steal. Last time my friend saw them from the last row and he couldn't even make out that corduroy was playing
4. Maybe not, but those bands didn't come out with a jihad against ticket prices and then turn around and start charging more than anyone else around.
So once again I challenge you to find a band out there that's not a a spectacle act like a madonna that I can't see cheaper than Pearl Jam. Until that eagles/mac combo comes out with the cheapest seats being $90-$100 face you are going to have a hard time finding ANY band charging more than Pearl Jam for the WORST seats in the house...
...
I see what you are saying here... average the prices of all of the Sting seats and see what the price would be, right? Makes sense. So, we can also average the 45-250 for Tom Petty or 50-350 for McCartney and go from there... only if we can figure out the percentage (number) of low to high seats.
As for me... I'm not paying $92.00 to see Pearl Jam if I am in the worst seat in the house. I am not paying $92.00 to see ANYONE in the worst seat in the house (except a reunion of Pink Floyd).
But, I sure am not going to pay anything more than 20 bucks to see Sting from the worst seats in the house.
...
So, Parl Jam at Madison Square Gardens may not sell out.

On the last Aussie tour I paid over $140 per ticket. That is about $130 U.S
Yep, i payed $90 in 2003, face value to see PJ in Sydney. yes the excgange rate was different then as well.
I am going to say what i always say in threads where people whinge about ticket prices.
Come and live in Australia, where you cannot see an international act, with an arena show for under $100 per ticket!!!
I don't have a problem with the price. So many bands charge high prices and then play for short periods of time. At least with pearl jam you get a 2-2 1/2 hour show and you never leave disappointed! In addition, they always have a solid opening band that can charge 25-40 on their own. If you get in the venue early you get two quality shows. Band of horses are going to be sick!

See your argument changed as the thread wore on, PJ's price at $75 plus fees for the worst seats is a valid point, but $$87.50 for a 10club seat near the stage is a far superior value than most any act you mentioned, cause these other acts are using tiered pricing which charges very high prices for the best seats...have you seen what Bon Jovi is doing with his "VIP" packages?
Here's what $1,875.00 gets you:
Diamond Circle VIP Experience
Package Includes: One Incredible Front Row* Ticket inside the Exclusive Circle!*(Or in the First Three Rows in the following markets: East Rutherford, Chicago, Foxboro, Regina, Toronto, Winnipeg & Edmonton), One Exclusive Collectable Bon Jovi VIP Concert Chair (You sit in it, you watch the show, and then you take it home with you!), Special VIP Cocktail Upon Arrival, Deluxe Catered VIP Preshow Hospitality, Deluxe VIP Open Bar*, Dedicated On-Site VIP Host, And MORE!
$1875.00 a seat!
So to counter your argument, you must also note that PJ has never gouged their fans like this, JBJ make Gene $immon$ look downright philanthropic these days.

I didn't change my argument. People were all just on different pages. Ten club tickets don't cost $92.05 so I was NEVER AT ANY POINT COMPLAINING ABOUT 10C TICKETS.
My points were and remain
1. PJ is no longer a cheap concert ticket relative to their peers
2. Keeping ticket prices down is no longer a top priority for this band
but many on this board are hell bent not on combating the above 2 points, but instead on pointing out how lucky we are to have Pearl Jam... the slightly less starry eyed crowd puts their fingers in their ears and repeatedly points out how great of a deal 10 C quality tickets are relative to other acts (TOTALLY TRUE) but then generalize the value of those tickets to the whole despite the fact that only very fortunate people get those tickets in big markets.
From a broad industry perspective the only place that Pearl Jam is a "cheap" ticket is with regards to premium seating - but thats a high end market to begin with - so instead of those seats going to the white collar crowd they go to a mixture of the white collars who will pay high scalper prices, white collars with season tickets, and the ten club
to which I say. BIG DEAL - thats a holdover benefit from Pearl Jam's earlier rebellious days. I wonder if they started the Fan Club today if they would be so generous. I'm in clined to think not.
Make the whole arena $50 like Phish, now that would be something...
they are more than they need to be but less than they could be. imo, they want to make the same money and play fewer shows than they did a few years back.
i would pay way over 92 for 10c tix but not sure i would pay over 50 for upper deck.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.
Us aussies paid $239 US for a pair of 10C tickets when they were last here, so I'm happy to just pay $150 US for the pair I got to see em in Cleveland.
I suppose we get ripped off for everything here in Australia, from food to houses to band ticket prices.
For the record I usually go to about 20 shows a year... from clubs to Stadiums. I can't remember the last time I spent $92 on a ticket. Actually I can, it was probably PJ at the Spectrum. Before that it was probably PJ at the Garden 08... I've already bought about 10 shows for 2010. PJ MSG being the most expensive. More expensive than DMB and Petty who are next in line.
Prob the only show I'll go to that will cost this much in 2010 will be if the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac tour together... I don't even think Sting solo costs this much.
Jesuschristalmighty you're bitching about $92 and you'll pay more to watch those geezers?
